Carter's cap hit is $5.2 M. His actual salary will be $2 M starting next year (it is $3 M now). Let's say LA eats half of the remainder (which would be about $2 M cash - spread over two years). Does this mean their trading partner only must commit half of Carter's $5.2 M to their salary cap?: A $2.6 M cap hit would not be difficult for the Hawks to absorb. LA would save some cash and add a legit prospect for the long term. Currently we are 12m below the cap with the 15m+/- of LTIR. When they come back we are going to be even again. And still have to resign Kubalik and Strome. Hawks don't have much if any wiggle room. Either CC's 6M or Lehner's 5M will be replaced by a 1M back up would be my guess. If I went after a Forward,I'd like 27yro Tyler Toffoli on an expiring 4.6M deal.....the team's played well lately but they ain't built to advance if they make it.

This is getting close to where the FO has to decide whether they're good enough to make it AND advance as constructed or if they need help to do so....I still suspect the later.

I've done plenty of 12s and worked weeks straight so I love doing 4 tens a week, plus I go to the gym almost everyday.

we have 10 mill or so to spend for 1 year, I think we should buy some draft picks and throw gus in as a sweetener

lol I am, trying to sell Tor, on Gus for 2 seconds and a third, and we will take Clarkson and Horton from them a year early, now they can get their back up and get a defenseman , don't know why they wouldn't at least look at it

I admit to not being a fan of Gus and wanting him traded but trading a starting D-man for picks after fighting to get back in it sends a terrible message and they ain't tradin' Gus and never were. The Org would basically be paying what's left of the Leafs LTIR money (10.5M) for this year for a couple of 2nd's. I don't want to see high picks traded away but I would like to see this year's cap money spent on this year's team.

The problem with that is , where do we find that player, and that player has to be one that will help us this year, Knowing that 1 of the two starter's is gone is great , but we still need two for next year, so that's only gonna save us a couple mill, it doesn't have to be Gus, but the way 27 is playing with confidence , and keith plus what he have coming up I think he would be the best to go,

The team is close to a point where the ship has sailed on selling and as far as "that player" I want, they'll be teams lookin' to shed players to make space for TDL moves and some of those shed are often useful or better.

on the trade, not to trade, who to trade, who to trade for note....
there's some weeks left still before the deadline. I think we need to see how this team does for a couple more weeks before we decide which way we should go on (or before) 2/24.

morning skate skerfuffle (<- that's not a word)
@marklazerus Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith were just scrapping at the morning skate. Toews had Keith pinned down on the ice. and had most of his jersey off. Sheldon Brookbank broke them up. A few stick-taps from around the team and back to the usual morning skate. That was... interesting. It was hardly a violent affair, but it didn't look playful, either.

the only thing i like about this years sked to date is that the game in prague was counted as an away game. first game in europe, then 5 days off. then 7 straight at home, which i absolutely hated to see the second i saw it. now 10 bloody days off between games. i never bitch about the sked, b2b's, road trips or whatever but this year's schedule has got me plenty pissed off.
edit: on the schedule topic, does anyone have any idea that when we have 1 day off between games this year that we're 6-16-5 while last year we were 21-16-8? or is it just one of those weird stats that have no explanation.
i'm a self admitted numbers guy but i know that stats aren't the be-all and end-all of a team's true worth. for example, montreal leads the league in shots for a game, and for most of the season L.A. has allowed the least shots against (they're second now behind carolina). great numbers, but both teams likely won't make the post season. but that's the beauty about stats. sometimes there just isn't an explanation for them. : )
