Currently we are 12m below the cap with the 15m+/- of LTIR. When they come back we are going to be even again. And still have to resign Kubalik and Strome. Hawks don't have much if any wiggle room. If I went after a Forward,I'd like 27yro Tyler Toffoli on an expiring 4.6M deal..... i'd LOVE toffoli, just can't seeing us outbidding another team...especially if we're on the bubble.

I don't see it happenin' either my friend....just a player I'd like to add,it'd probably take a 1st and the team needs all of them they can get or keep. The best place to look at spending that LTIR space would obviously be an expiring contract and would have to come from a contender looking to clear space for an addition of their own. Toffoli's still only 27 and he's comin' off consecutive down seasons playing for a dismal team,I gotta believe skatin' LW with either Kane or Toews could revitalize him. If he could be acquired without a 1st or one of our top three prospects going back AND would sign a reasonable extension.....I'd be in but those are big IF'S!

what about Galchenyuk? hes been passed around the league the last two years, is that for a reason? Rumour has it that hockey is in the backseat for him. He’s more interested in the lifestyle than hockey. He’s potted 30 a few years back and most teams think they get him back on track, but probably won’t!!!

I wonder if JC can do that, doubt it though.

Which isn’t bad per se, but he just tunes the game out for most of the season then does enough to get another deal. He’s been in the nhl for 8 years now. He’s probably financially set, and I don’t think he cares about hockey as much as he should. He’ll get another deal, and continue to be who he is. Sad thing is, he’s wasting the best years of his career from 25-30 when he could make some real coin. But it’s up to him!!!

i like d-cat's goal at #3 with dach's slick backhand and kub's goal tied for 2nd.

My hope is that Dach spent most of his time off fattening up and sleeping. When Caggiula was off with his concussion he spent time working on things that he needed to improve his game and a heavier Dach is what he needs to improve his.

And Edmonton fans are saying they're near the bottom for back to back games because of their traveling yet Chicago travels the most this season and it seems like the Oilers get a lot of opponents that played the night before. Calgary played the Blues tonight and play a well rested Oilers team tomorrow night. The NHL is terrible with the scheduling and pretty much everything they do, I only watch because I love hockey but after the Blues winning I almost gave up.

won't almost all of the teams in the league be facing something similar? everyone gets a break either before or after the all-star break now. they've been doing it for a few years now, the players love it, it's a quick vacation in the middle of a grueling season.

If the team can take 7 outta the first 10 games(the last two winnable home games) it should put em in a spot just a few days before the TDL with a very friendly March schedule-wise on the horizon...…..stand pat or buy?

I'm still wanting to sell ,lol I was a seller a month or two back myself shooter but the FO finds itself in a complicated position with the team's current play. They made trades and spent money along the way last summer and not allowing it to play out now that they're close won't happen at this point. I'm still not sure we get a spot and I'm less sure we advance if we do but we have to remember they fired a popular HC and made quite a few changes since...….the FO might need the PO's to save some jobs. Strome's return will help if we see two solid scoring lines put together and I have to believe it takes a terrible next 2-3 weeks to become sellers and the team's been pretty far from terrible for some time now. If the team's in a spot a week before TDL after a tough schedule,I'd love to see a little future spent on a little present.

Nashville, Minnie, and Winnie are all playing poorly. Vegas is not playing that well and is only half-a-game ahead of the Hawks; Yotes and Calgary are a game'n a half and two games ahead respectively. If the Hawks continue playing well, they have a fair shot. Everyone is this league is beatable. Boston and the Blues have had their slumps. Let the Hawks gel and it'll be more obvious whom they want to keep. I don't think that they have much to sell at the moment. Gus? Don't see that they can get much for him.
