I was a seller a month or two back myself shooter but the FO finds itself in a complicated position with the team's current play. They made trades and spent money along the way last summer and not allowing it to play out now that they're close won't happen at this point. I'm still not sure we get a spot and I'm less sure we advance if we do but we have to remember they fired a popular HC and made quite a few changes since...….the FO might need the PO's to save some jobs. Strome's return will help if we see two solid scoring lines put together and I have to believe it takes a terrible next 2-3 weeks to become sellers and the team's been pretty far from terrible for some time now. If the team's in a spot a week before TDL after a tough schedule,I'd love to see a little future spent on a little present. As it stands now, this team could squeeze in into playoffs. Nashville, Minnie, and Winnie are all playing poorly. Vegas is not playing that well and is only half-a-game ahead of the Hawks; Yotes and Calgary are a game'n a half and two games ahead respectively. If the Hawks continue playing well, they have a fair shot. Everyone is this league is beatable. Boston and the Blues have had their slumps. Let the Hawks gel and it'll be more obvious whom they want to keep. I don't think that they have much to sell at the moment. Gus? Don't see that they can get much for him. One factor this time of year is the teams ahead of us and those just behind start playing each other regularly which means points almost every night for one or the other or both. The Hawks will have to go at least 10 over from here on out and I'd like to see a decent top six forward or reliable D-man added to have ANY chance in the PO's.

i like hockey numbers but i'm not sure i put a lot of faith in the wheel of fortune below, but i do find it interesting so i'm just plunking this here to compare numbers with next week's wheel to see where we're at.

That's a good read. He's strong at both ends and plays a complete game, Bowmans best trade. Another thing that stands out is his second and third efforts, when this team is winning it's because they're trying and not giving up on a play, like Kubalik backchecking and getting a breakaway from it. Of course Toews is the master on playing defensive hockey and not giving up on a play and I get the same feeling with Dach, there's been many times I thought he'd lose the puck or not get it back but he often does and creates chances. He could be the captain when Toews retires so his mid 20's, prime years.

He became a favourite right off the bat when his line with Kampf and Saad was the best Hawk line those first few games. The Hawk scouts in Europe have been somewhat impressive in their mining for hidden gold. There’s no way Kubalik keeps up his pace from the last dozen games but I’d like to see him continue to play with Toews through the rest of the season.

can we have the Euro scouts take charge of the scouting for the draft? I thunk our scouting staff has done a great job, go back and look at the drafts, it's not their fault that dumbo Stan trades them all away , Hawks have a lot of stars on other teams , until the last few years, we have't had the best drafting position , and the jury is still out on most of them, www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/teams/dr00005218.html

danault, saad, shaw, tt, dcat, joker, boqvist, dach, schmaltz/strome (counting them in because...), the rest/recent picks are being evaluated, like Mitchell, but we'll count him because of the hype
that's 10 quality players in 10 drafts (so far), not sure about what the average success story is, but 10 in 10 yrs doesn't look like a "great job", to me at least

How do the Hawks staff and managment not see how bad Gus is for this team? His turnovers are huge momentum killers and result in grade A scoring chances or goals against.
He should be moved ASAP, or at least before the trade deadline. If he's re-signed with a NMC this organization is completely clueless.

That is why I wanted to hopefully send him to Tor, for both their LTIR Horton and Clarkson are both doe this year, we get a couple 2nd, and a prospect, or maybe more , thats around 10 mil , but Tor has their back up , so i doubt it gets looked at, but I thought it made sense for both teams,

Hoping you're right about coming back in great shape. Doesn't mean he will be any much better, but here's hoping. Problem will be Seabs and De Haan coming back is 11.0+ back on the cap. Now they will have to redo the entire team again to fit in under the cap. Meaning we will start from scratch again and then everyone will blame the coach trying to implement a system has that has to be retaught to a dozen new guys...again. We are going to lose a lot of guys that are coming around. JC's first year took a couple months before they "got it". Then they got 10 new guys this year and it took 3+ months before they "Got it". And during this time the core gets a little bit older and tad bit slower.

That's one person movement.
No one is going to trade valuable draft picks or prospects for Shaw or Smith. Remember Anisimov? how easy was it to trade him? SB will most likely take on a contract back, gaining minimal capspace, or worse, "pay" a team to take on their contracts just like Bickell/TT.

I’ve heard from a pretty reliable person, that Seabs probably won’t be back. The Hawks have their paper trail now and it’s not just getting out from under a contract anymore. It wouldn’t surprise me. I’m sure the Hawks would offer him a very nice job in the office or on the bench. But we’ll see!!!

They saved 1 million with that trade for Arty. Shaw was a waste, he's not worth 3.9M. Trade Saad to save the 6M cap, but who will take his place scoring and PK? Going to spend near the 6M again to replace him. Saad is a 20-25 G scorer, not getting the points like he did but on 3rd line time he doesn't have the Toews and Hossa linemates like he did. You got 11M right now tied up in 2 goalies. Keep Lehner for probably 7.5-8m for 5-6 years. Probably what he will want. Lankinen for 1.250 if he resigns for that at 3 years then. Now you got 2 mil saved on cap there. And yes I would like minimal roster turn over, you can't keep flipping 10 guys each year and expect a long run when your "core" is now 31+ in age. Not like in 2010 when the core was 22+ age. The transition years the core was better able to carry the burden, I don't think they can do it for a couple years now. IMO

another contract is Maatta, IMO will be hard to trade out. the return will either be another minimal capspace (a player with a cheaper contract) or "pay" a team to take it on in full.
but who knows, maybe SB can pull off a couple of trades (2 of Smith, Shaw, Maatta) without any contract coming back AND not "paying"

I know Seabs' deal is a tough one but people have to stop blaming all the teams woes(and there're many) on the three time cup winner,a 'well run' team should be able to handle a bad contract or two. We didn't need any more! Bringing in de Haan's 4.6M was an awful decision on so many levels,he was seriously injured,he had fallen out of favor with his team before he was injured and he's not the 'first to the puck' player the org always says they need but they say a lotta things. You said Shaw ain't worth 3.9M and I agree but only due to his injury situation,if healthy he could have easily seen last year's offensive production if not better if he played with better players BUT the thing about the Shaw concussion issues were common knowledge that I posted links to myself. I admit to liking the way Shaw mixes it up but mixing it up and concussion history is a bad combo, especially for a smaller guy...…...how Bowman didn't get the Habs to eat half the $$$ after parting with a 2nd and a 3rd is beyond me. Both Shaw and de Haan were risks that SB had no right to take and both have blown up in his face to the tune of 8.5M for two more...…..toss in Maata's 4M and that's almost twice what Seabs gets and it's an unforced error.

I won't be surprised if he's not back myself after how things went down but I see him leaving via a buyout or retained money and a bit of a sweetener…….give em Sikura LOFL! I know he's 34 with high miles but he missed 4 games to injury the last 6 years(none this year) and maybe a dozen for his entire career. If he was in and out of the lineup like Weber or Bogosian with injuries,I'd understand him walking away but he's been a healthy horse of a player. I still think he and the Org came to an agreement to address a few nagging injury issues vs being scratched half the time the rest of the year. Maybe he comes back in good shape.

imo, with regard to Seabs....
I think we see him come back next year and give it one more go in camp. if he is gonna be able to contribute like he used to, then he plays. if not, then I think they'll find another reason for LTIR for next season (so he gets paid his full amount) and then we'll have a rinse and repeat the following fall, which will likely lead to his retirement. at the very least he comes for camp next fall after getting his signing bonus. the first 4 years of his deal he was paid more than the last 4, so (if my math is correct) he would lose about 13.5 million if he followed the scenario I listed above. that would allow for him to collect his signing bonus in both 20 and 21 (to the tune of 6 million) and his salary for next season (1 million) before he hangs em up.
either way, the likelihood of him being done playing for the Blackhawks is probably fair.
just my $0.02.

I think that time was spent negotiating with him. Maybe if he really wants to play, maybe he, like Buff walks away from his contract? I still believe he’ll be here in some capacity. Hawks are up against the cap again. I don’t know if Shaw ever plays again, or Seabs, or even de Haan. That’s gonna be hard for Stan to explain all of that to his bosses. That’s massive screw ups there. But, desperate people do desperate things. I don’t see how the Hawks can afford a reasonable team next year. With or without Seabs money. This does seem very convenient though..... again!!!

Then a true evaluation can happen. I'm sure the league will have their doctors look over the situation as well as Seabs will probably have his own independent doctors review. This will probably end up in a bitter feelings between Seabs and the ORG.

Good points by all! When camp opens,Seabs will have gone seven months since his last procedure and it's not like he had ACL/MCL reconstruction...….he had 60,000 mile maintenance. None of the injuries kept him off the ice a single shift and the guy was at morning skate the day we heard he needed three surgeries. My point being,he's missed about a dozen games to injury throughout his entire career and none before his recent procedures so he's been able to stay healthy to a remarkable extent and he'll have had enough time after these procedures to heal, rehab and get back in shape. I have no doubt he reports and I'd bet he's ready physically too but that's JMO. I didn't like the way things went down at first but it seems the player and the Org got together and did the right thing. Will teams now see the guy as damaged goods or a well rested plyer who took care of a few nagging issues? I believe it's the later but again.....JMO.

We will see. No one is hoping that Seabs can come back and be a solid player more than me. But I’d have to think at 35 and half a season off doesn’t bode well for him. The org is more than likely on top of this situation, just like with Hossa. I just don’t think the Hawks are willing to pay 7 million a year for a 2 million a year guy. I’m hoping he comes back as the Seabs we know and love!!!
