Technically they will have the 10.5 from the Seabs and Shaw cap space after the first game. So, after paying Fleury 7 mill, they will have another 3.5 to throw at Zadorov and others. By the way, given their situation and the fact that their goalie lineup is half-way decent, wouldn't it have made more sense to throw that 7 mill at a forward, or two and live with their current goalies. Is Fleury really going to save them when they can't control the puck and leave the opponents with more shots on goal because the puck is always in the Hawks' end of the ice? Even with Fluery, they will have the 10.5ish after the 1st game.

Let's move D-Cat to make room for Krejci.....he's only 35. I think he’s a UFA. So ya never know? How much does ol Scambo got left to throw into the UFA abyss? It’ll be much more fun when the Hawks coaching fails them. I wonder how long JC has till he’s shitcanned? If they’re fighting for a playoff spot around November. I think JC will be destroyed, never to return!!! the only good thing about going for it, imo. either JC will prove his mettle and the team will succeed or the team will underperform despite the additions and we will have a new coach.

Well that sucks, this was a very stupid trade because we got no prospect or pick to take 7 million off of the Knights cap for a player who said he doesn't want to leave Vegas, didn't have Chicago on his list, and might retire. Unless Fleury says soon that he'll play or not, he could screw the Hawks if he waits while free agents and possible trades could've happened.

so I was reading an article on the Athletic about MAF and one of the Penguins bits struck me...
one of their "business guys" said this about Flower: "His jersey would be our number 1 seller, even with Sid and Geno. Bringing back Flower would be huge. Every team in the league is trying to sell tickets."
so..... not really big news, but I think we can see Stan's motivation here (and why the brass is onboard).

A $7M backup G can't reduce the number of shots against or reduce the number of high danger scoring chances given up any better than a $850K backup G. And the Hawks were 2nd worst in both those areas.

I'm really tired of this shit. Stan just has no real plan...it was Hobey Baker winners, it was former first round busts, he gets Lehner, he dumps Lehner, now he gets a guy who may retire rather than play on his shitshow team. His drafts have been a joke for the most part. His handpicked coach is laughable. Now the core is aging out, and the team has no real identity, and not much in the system. He continues to hand out NMCs like an asshole. Fail, fail, fail.

I honestly would love it for Lanks to have a season working with a guy like MAF. plus, adding a bunch of free agents and throwing all the pressure on him to win is a but much. Flower would alleviate that. at the very least, there's been some excitement so far this summer....

on the downside here, I hope MAF has a quick answer for Bowman on whether he intends on playing or not. if he hems and haws for weeks, it is going to be an issue if we want to add anyone else....

Maybe, just maybe, Stan pulls a rabbit out his ass and works a trade with the Pens, a place where MAF's wife is from and he'd go back to in a heartbeat.
Now I really don't know squaduche about the Pens pipeline or if they even have the $ for to make this happen (cause I friggin' hate that team). But it might be a scenario.

He’s doing things that only a GM about to be fired does. He’s getting “names” in there, and then he can say he got the best available. I seen Kevin Lowe set the Oilers back 14 years because of that!!!

Pierre Lebrun brought this up tonight. He said Scam Bowman got MAF to play for the Hawks. And why didn’t the Pens just get him? Hawks gave up an AHL at best player for MAF, I’m absolutely positive the Pens got at least one of them they can spare. So the only way he goes back there, is if that’s the only way he will play. And Scam will end up retaining salary, and losing like he always does!!!

Although I wasn't meaning backup in the traditional sense, where they only play about 25-30 games. I would have thought Lankinen might be the starter after being the starter last year but with a much closer split of starts than last season. However since Stan apparently has his eyes set on the Hawks playing for the Cup this year, even splits make sense. I hope MAF likes to stay busy while in net.

I can see them doing something similar to what Vegas did with he and Lehner (when he was healthy) last season.

Its really sounding like Fleury doesn’t want to come to Chicago. I don’t think this works out for either side. The good news is Scam gets a mulligan here. What will he screw up next? We’ll see tonight on “Moves that should get a GM fired”!!!

I honestly have no problem with getting MAF. the thing that sucks about it, though, if he dicks around and waits a month to decide what he wants to do, that 7 million is gonna be nearly useless cuz any free agents we might even added will be long gone by then... hopefully he and Bowman talked last night and he will expedite his decision...

It sounds like it. It really sounds like MAF is heavily leading against Chicago. There’s many reasons at play here. His family he said doesn’t want to move. I doubt that changes. You or I would for 7 million. But he has 80 million. So it’s not gonna hurt him. He clearly said “he doesn’t want to move his family to an unfamiliar city”. Also the Hawks are a mess defensively, why would he want to play there? So unless Scambo can assure him a much better D, I doubt he’s coming. I think we’ll find out probably today or this morning!!!

I don't know that they actually want to do that, though. but it might be better than nothing...

My best guess is that the Pens wanted someone to retain salary or take back one of their goalies like Jarry. Not happening. So guess what, Scambo jumps in and makes life great for the Vegans. He should a demanded they take Shaws deal, and they can lose a 2nd rounder by trading it to Arizona. But Scambo does Scambo things!!!

Who's the defense on this rebuilt team? Jones is a legit number 1, but it literally falls after that to a bunch of borderline number 4 guys who are realistically 5/6/7s....all the MAFs in the world aren't going to cover up the glaring void that is the Hawks defense.
