And they'll probably finish the way they atarted. What an ugly season. If they win the draft lotto they better make a lot of changes in the offseason and hope guys play with more structure and have career years or Columbus is going to get a great pick, hopefully not Bedard. I know this isn’t popular. But I’d try and trade Dcat to the BJs for the that pick back and Kent Johnson. I think that’s a reasonable asking price for Dcat. If the Hawks get the first pick this year or even the 2nd, gotta stay with the plan and rebuild properly. The BJs seem like a team that would make that trade as Dcat fits the mold of their age demographic for that team. Hawks could use those assets more than Dcat at this point. Getting 2 for one is a quicker way to rebuild. I fear getting a generational talent like Bedard and ruining it like the oilers have. Gotta be able to surround him with some other talents. It would be nice to have this years pick back, and a top 5 drafted player. Then head into next looking to get a top 2 pick. Get Lafreniere for Kane, and hopefully get Byram for Toews. That’s would right the rebuild much much quicker. Again. It sucks to lose the legends here. It really does. But this ain’t working. And it’s not gonna. Cannot keep going in this direction. It’d be nice to see moves like the above made and have some type of hope moving forward!!! You've mentioned Kent Johnson a few times, I haven't watched him play but his numbers aren't that impressive and he's 168lbs, why do you like him so much? At this point I'd be willing to trade Debrincat but this draft isn't that deep and drops off after Wright.

I would do that. I would also trade him and Ian Mitchell to LA for Byfield and Clarke and a pick. Or to Detroit for Edvinsson and Cossa. Brandt Clarke is gonna be a solid dman. I like what he brings. I don’t think they give up Byfield. I think the furthest they go is Turcotte and Clarke. And I don’t think I do that. I’m not sold on Turcotte being an NHL player. Sabastian Cossa is huge. No doubt. I watched him live at a wings game, I had a loop hole to get across the border for work and went and caught a pre season game. But the kid has horrible lateral movement. I still noticed that in the WJC. He was the 3rd goalie for team Canada. Not saying he can’t get better. But he just seems to be big and not much else. I like the fact of having our own picks. At least this way the Hawks are in charge of where they can pick, and not hoping someone else loses. However, I love the ideas. I really hope the new management has these in mind too!!! I agree do not see LA giving up Byfield. Columbus needs to make a decision on Laine and if they acquire Debrincant they would be looking to lock up 2 scoring wingers probably 8 years starting at $8M-$10M per year. I am not sure what it is with Columbus, but for some reason players do not want to sign there long term. Will have to see what team either comes close or loses early on the playoffs to see where Kane and Toews might fit. Again need to be transparent with both and if they do want to move on, I see it more happening at the next TDL when their cap dollars are easier to move. KD needs to patient and not just take the first deal that comes through, it will certainly be interesting between the end of the season and up to draft. I do not see the Hawks signing any significant free agents this year and next, probably one year deals for the most part. So in my opinion trades (Hagel already started it) and the draft should give us a pretty good indication of the plan KD will be following.

However, give him a couple more years of development and he should be good. Reminds me a bit like Backstrom in Washington. I don’t think he’ll be the top dog, but he’s definitely got talent. He’s 6’1” and 168. That’s pretty light. But I could see him topping out around 190. As 19 year old he put up 37 points in 32 games. Not bad in the NCAA. I’d sign him and send him to the farm for a year or two. Let him develop and join the team when ready. Having him as a center, with Dach, and another high pick like Bedard. Bodes well moving forward!!!

At 6'1" that's a very thin frame to work with but at least he's over 6'. Do you know what his faceoff numbers are like? Being over a point a game in his second year in the NCAA is encouraging but if he's not good at faceoffs that's not something the Hawks need. It sucks the Hawks keep getting better odds in the lotto and if they don't move up the BJs will be drafting around the 5-6 spot. Besides the Russian dman you've mentioned who's in the OHL there isn't any players in the 3-10 spot that get me excited. I Wouldn't trade Debrincat for that pick and a prospect, they'd have to sweeten the pot more.

A few nice passes, and he but the cross bar already in his first few shifts. I think the kid will be good. Every time I’ve seen him play he looks unreal. He was good at the few games at last years WJC. Not saying they’d even give him up for Dcat. Centers are harder to find. And on to that, I don’t know much about his faceoffs. If he sucked, I doubt he’d still be there. He’d be a winger. I don’t know if I’d make that trade if I were Columbus!!!

Sportsnet guys are raving over Kent Johnson tonight and they’re more for the Habs. I like it when other teams announcers say nice things about the oppositions younger players. Like Colorado’s guys that said all those nice things about Toews when he scored that hilight reel goal as a rookie against them. That’s very classy!!!

In the Debrincat thread I mentioned Debrincat to Edmonton because him and McDavid are still good friends, I'd ask for Broberg and Holloway or McLeod, it'd be nice to get our 1st back but that'd be a trade that adds a potential top2 dman and a top6 center. I'm sure a lot of teams would want DCat and putting him on the block before the draft could hopefully start a bidding war.

At what point does this guy have any expectations?

Like everyone else here I am not happy with Dach's results but I am not ready to throw in the towel on a 21 year old - just yet. Hawks have bigger issues than him to worry about IMHO. Kings' Kempe is now 25 and is just finding himself and shows aggressive confidence out there. You may have seen the brief comments by Kopitar and Iafolla on his now blossoming. Different situation and different circumstances for sure.

These three are greatly needed going forward. An added bonus would be these pages would no longer be filled with this garbage of T&K not wanting to be here and that they are mailing it in. Anyone who knows the captain knows he is angry because he hates to lose and frustrated at himself for his inability to meet his high standards. AA mid-twenties when he played here was only 44 or 45% on faceoffs yet he centered both the first line and 1st PP unit. Strome 25 has finally reached 50%. I do not see Dach pouting on the wing so maybe you are mistaking him for when Strome played wing or not get to play with DeBrincat. I continually hear how badly we were mismanaged and how badly we sucked since the last cup but when I first tried to compare the numbers of #3 pick Strome with the #3 pick Dach I was reminded that it was unfair because Arizona sucked. This season his numbers are a rerflection on the state of the team with a few exceptions.

Wasting their time and the Hawks. The Hawks need to turn those 3 into 5-6 nhl players. If they don’t, and they just rebuild through Chicago’s own draft picks. You’re looking at a 10+ year rebuild. There is no pick this year. The team has maybe 1 or 2 NHL players coming. This team needs 9-11 good NHL players. It’s a foolish move to keep those said guys when you could get massive hauls for them. We need 2 players for 1. And make it work!!!

A third line player is there to prevent goals by keeping players like Kane from scoring with his starts beginnig in the defensive zone. A player playing mostly on the third line who gets nearly 20 goals is impressive. You are insulting D-Cat because he is a great player who does not need great players to be great. He did not need Mc David and it has been proven he did not need Strome or Raddysh in Erie as he is a scoring machine. As long as he has his shot and health he will be a top producer. Even with D-Cat off the books we cannot afford to get both McDavid and Draistle in the trade.

I know I've said move the three so they can play on competitive teams again but there is truth to the team not being able to win with them. The three combined for 120gls and 267pts three years ago and the team still ended up 2 over,Strome added 17/51 also that year and Keith threw in 40pts too. If the Org had a #1 or a #2 D-man close or any NHL centers ready, that'd be one thing but were looking at a totally different thing IMO. Even if Dach develops into a good #2,if Reichel is ready and a few of the young D-men work out,I think the team will still need a few top three picks and some very shrewd trades and FA signings when they're ready to compete again. LA got a great value in Denault on the UFA market and another in Arvidsson for a 2nd and a 3rd. We pay T Johnson 500K less than Denault to sit.......on THIS team. We gave up a 2nd and a 3rd for Shaw. Arvidsson makes 4.4M to open a vein every night for the Kings and Brent 'buyout' Connolly makes 3.5M to be the richest man in Rockford......were mismanaged......w/o a doubt. I agree,Strome isn't worth a dam as a shut down winger, that's why you don'y play him there,he's a talented offensive center whos's so-so at D,like many othrs. I woulda thought Strome's play may have quieted his critics by now. Let's hope Dach's 4th season sees the breakthrough needed, some bigger kids do take longer, some parts of his game are already there and King made a coment a while back about Dach not liking wing.

The Cat is a goal scorer, ability to beat you with his shot and showing above average playmaking skills as well. Some say he plays with great player in Kane and that somewhat should diminish his value. I am not sure if that is well he plays with Kane and we can just put anyone on his line with same production? Is it because we need a larger bigger winger to win more board battles and be tough to play against? Sure there is the argument that the Cat is a luxury on a bad team and he needs to moved and get assets that will help down the road and that has some merit for sure. What cannot happen is for KD to trade him to just start the rebuild faster. There should be no rush, he and Kane will bring back the most. Since Kane has a NTC and should he choose to stay even more important that KD gets maximum value back for the Cat. I know Bob has talked about his durability which for a smaller player is remarkable, but even more important how tough and hard he plays the game.

Great post Bob. I have my issues with Strome but he is real good on the PP and I love watching 12-17-88 together so hoping they all stay I know it adds years to a rebuild. But for selfish reasons I plan to keep my tickets for a little longer and 88 on most nights is worth the price of admission and watching the 3 of them can get me to the edge of my seat. Hopefully KD will bring in full hockey players to many players we are hoping will just work out but they are not working on there own teams. Lafferty was a good start in this direction just to get rid of Nylander. We are on the clock once the season ends a real good coaching group and a couple more in player development and evaluation would be a good start.

I would like management to sign T&K and D-Cat ASAP to send a clear message to the fans that they are not going to tank. I know I've said move the three so they can play on competitive teams again but there is truth to the team not being able to win with them. We both want the kid to succeed my friend and he does have parts to his game that work at the big league level, where he goes from here is up to him as far as I'm concerned. He skates well for his size, size guys like D-Cat or Hagel would give their right nuts for and he has good defensive instincts, his board work and cycle play are acceptable and he's a decent passer IMO. These skills should continue to improve at his age and so should goal scoring and FO's or should I say goal scoring and FO's HAVE TO improve? I know it comes across as criticism but I think it's fair to assess this full, healthy(till now)season, with a full camp and opportunities to play with good players and on the PP for most of the year. His stats mirror his rookie season and his FO% was better last year when he came back from the wrist injury(40%,which I found encouraging) and now we see a career low 32%,which I find discouraging. I know I also refuse to blame coaches or teammates for his lack of FO success because he's never had much at any level but that isn't saying he's been handled and developed properly....he hasn't. Many of us wanted him on JT's wing from the get go,taking occasional FO's on his strong side or other advantageous situations and maybe gettin' some confidence from producing some offense with K&T.......a lotta good centers started on the wing. Many mention his ability to cover 1LC's and rightly so but the catch 22 is,he then has to take FO's against those 1LC's and get slaughtered or not take em at all as we see lately with him only having a handful or less a game now. As far as a bigger kid taking a bit longer, the good news is the Hawks have the luxury of giving him another year or three, some mid 20 year old's like Thompson in Buffalo,Bennett in Fla and Kempe in LA are exploding onto the scene after pedestrian starts so who knows.

My main concern about Dach is just that he’s not shown many flashes of offensive brilliance yet. Most players that have the skills will literally show you flashes here and there. And it’s only a matter of time before they put her all together. Not really seeing this.
I do believe the word out there that he’s gotta clean out the 6” between his ears. Get that in order. I also hope the org sends him down to join Rockford for the playoffs. He’s on a two way deal as of now and he needs the learning curve of intense playoffs. Letting him go home and party with all his money he’s made. It’s best to get him to help out the Hogs and see some sort of playoff hockey!!!

If they do get Wright we can only hope whoever's here next season has a good year and they finish at least outside of the top10. And hopefully the Bolts miss the playoffs next year.

If the Hawks do get the #1 pick and the next team wants Wright I'd consider trading down and taking Slafkovsky, noticed him in the top5 of mock drafts all season but now he's moved up to #2 in some.
Hard not to miss a 6'4" 225lb Slovak winger who skates like someone much smaller. He scored 7 goals in 7gms at the Olympics and was the MVP, 2 goals in the bronze medal game vs Sweden. The kid is big and loves to play a physical game and he has soft hands, hard shot, and a great skater. Yes C and D are pivotal but that's a special combination of size and skill.

I honestly believe the Hawks will remain top ten in attendance through a rebuild. As long as there’s a plan and there’s progress being made. The team hasn’t made the playoffs in the last half decade and they’ve maintained good attendance. They’ll keep selling tix as long as they stick to their plan and move forward. I don’t see it going to like 10k per game. This franchise is set up to handle a rebuild!!!

Attendance numbers a little misleading. Sold tickets and attendance are 2 different things people who had tickets could not get rid of them for even face value or a little less. If you bought the unsold tickets during year you also got 2 beers or hotdogs popcorn and pop with each ticket. It will be interesting to see what kind of ticket numbers they have at the start of the year. They will continue to give away perks to get people in so attendance will not look like other rinks give someone 4 free beers they will show up!

A loyal STH like bb27 is a much better source than me but I been goin' to games off n on for 55 years at the UC and the old barn and just like Wrigley...I've seen half empty buildings. Will we ever again? Never say never. It was only 14 1/2 years ago when me,my late brother and two buds went to a Yotes game back in the fall of 07,we got the cheapest 300lvl tickets available and had no problem moving right down to the front row. This was Kane and Toews rookie season,so there was some buzz already around the team too and we got to see Big Buff pot a natty hattie in the 1st. IMO,it'll take 25 win seasons to get top 5 picks and 25 win seasons will absolutely affect attendance.......Rocky knows this......it's in his DNA!

Rocky can easily get attendance back by just removing the TV deal for home games like Arthur and Bill did. The "REAL" fans will buy season tickets................
