I don't disagree, but I wonder if there was something that prevented a reasonable move for Strome. Who knows. I'm sure Davidson is on the phone nonstop for everyone at this point as well Do you think a HC who's benching him in favor of guys who didn't even belong in the league and are now out of it might have hurt his value? Maybe it did. Thankfully he's no longer our head coach.

Dylan Strome was given two fair opportunities to regularly play with talented players here, '18-19' saw 17/51 in 58 games and '21-22 ' saw 22/46 in 69 games and an improved 52%+ at the dot,the two years in between saw injuries like a high ankle sprain and a concussion, long undeserved benchings and tie with lesser player when Potter did play him. He still managed to get better at FO's every year through all of that! If 9/17 47% in a dinged-up,mis-used 40 game season is "playing like ass" and it is,what do we call 9/26 32.8% in 70 healthy games and plenty of opportunity? I trust your ability to come up with an equally colorful term.....LOL! The knock on Strome seems to be he needs to play with good players to produce but at least he's proven he can produce with good players,Kane's numbers improved big time last year when that line was put together half way too. The two years Strome did see regular time with talented linemates resulted in 127gms 39gls 97pts and his FO's are now well over 50%........this doesn't work here? The argument on Strome is a similar argument to a lot of our other FWDs, right player/wrong time. I do give him plenty of credit for getting better, but realistically, will he be here we we have the defensive pieces (FWD or backend) to compete again? I don't think so. That's not a knock on Strome. I think he played more than well enough to get a QO, and if the 'hawks don't use him as a piece to facilitate the rebuild, if he is arbitrated to something like $4.5M for a season, it won't 100% kill the team. Plus, it might be incentive to him to play as best as he could to maximize his UFA potential. On one side of the coin anyone not nailed down should be used as a tradeable asset to facilitate the rebuild, on the other side, we do need to fill out the lineup. In my estimation, paying Strome 3.3M to 4.5M next season is far from the worst move the 'hawks can make, but if he can bring in an asset that can facilitate the rebuild, why shouldn't we take it? Just like Kane,DeBrincat and JT too,I understand trading Strome, especially after a good season, why TF he'd want to stay if Cat and Kane go is reason enough. I agree that he doesn't fill a checking/shut-down role and probably never will but he might get better in those areas if allowed to play regularly.....I thought his back-checking got a bit better last year, his -6 was team best for forwards with 30gms or more. I thought his passing improved as the year went on also but those small-framed,scoring wingers will do that for a center. NHL level HC's won't play Dylan Strome in a shut-down role anyway when he can produce offense and win FO's in the O-zone........horses for courses. TAKE IT! WE SHOULD TAKE IT! Facilitate that rebuild I hear about and Strome's no good here if we move all the other good players anyway. He does need some talent to play with and we might have little to none the way it sounds so off he goes too. I'll enjoy watching Kane,DeBrincat and Strome in other sweaters as much or maybe even more the next several years and that goes for JT too......he says he still has a lotta hockey left in him and I believe him. I enjoyed watching trainwrecks when I was younger as much as the next guy but not so much any more.

I enjoyed watching trainwrecks when I was younger as much as the next guy but not so much any more. That's basically my point--for a lot of players. As long as their cap hit is commensurate with their on-ice ability, as well as short-term or movable enough for cap flexibility or as mvr puts it "weaponized cap space", I have no problem with most of our guys remaining moving forward--nor do I have an issue with trading them out for assets as long as the assets coming back are commensurate with thier actual abilities. Some guys like Gus, DeHaan, and the like I don't really want back simply because they offer very little to a rebuilding club. Given the type of on-ice game they play, guys like Stillman and Vlassic make them superfluous, but Strome? Yeah, if we can't get something for him I have no problem with him remaining. Same with Debrincat. Same with Kane. I think with a roster fill-in but the rest of the team remaining as-is is bad enough for bottom-5 in the league; we aren't going anywhere without a #1 3-zone D-man (And Jones is not 3-zone), and a top-10 goaltender. KD and McI would be a special kind of stupid to go after those pieces in the FA market as opposed to letting the chips fall as they lie (and getting what they can from our tradeable assets). A lot of damage was done by the late Bowman regime. I think it will take time to fix and some guys might simply be casualties of it. It kinda sucks but what could we do except hope they can resurrect their careers--possibly elsewhere. The best we can hope for is the damage getting repaired as fast as possible. But, as I always said, if I can't enjoy the 'hawks going well, I'll learn to enjoy them doing poorly.

Assuming we trade for NJ's #2 OA, who do you pick if Montreal picks Wright? I've been leaning toward Slavkovsky, on the premise that you just don't see guys like this very often, while great centers happen every year or two. But the more I find out about Logan Cooley, the better he looks. He's going back to school for a year or maybe 2, but that actually works to the Hawk's advantage. And he's fast as well as smart. Which way are you guys leaning?

Dont post here much but this guy is touted as a hagel clone and seems to have the traits davidson is looking for. Ludwinski is a 5’11” and 183-pound left-handed center/winger who spent all of the 2021/2022 season with the Kingston Frontenacs. He got better as the year went along, even featuring on Shane Wright’s line, and had an excellent OHL playoffs. The 18-year-old forward is a ball full of energy. He’s one of the best skaters in this draft (speed, stride and acceleration), he’s persistent (hard on pucks, wins countless puck battles and endless motor), and he’s very versatile.wallymaz.substack.com/p/2022-nhl-draft-prospect-profile-paul?r=6bpcw&s=w&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

He could be the next Ovechkin. But, I think next year is the year to get our smaller (5’11” 180) franchise center. Getting Bedard will be the best thing in a long time. So I probably take Slafkovsky. That’s just me though. Cooley May end up being the best offensive player in this draft. As always, time will tell!!!

Well rounded puck moving QB quarterback who can lay out some big hits.

I thought that name sounded familiar, Del Mastros teammate, and a while back you mentioned the Hawks should draft him and I said take Del Bel Belluz. Del Bel had over 70pts, 30g-46a, and was over 50% at faceoffs. But Beck does sound like the best choice though because he plays a complete game and he's really good at faceoffs, think he was around 60%, plus you can't go wrong with a guy compared to a Swiss army knife. Guess it'll depend on who falls to 38. Those are two good centers plus GT mentioned the Hagel clone at 38 and I brought up Luneau on D.

I read about him several weeks ago and lightly followed him. Bit of a gamble but he sure has abilities for a big man. Someone will take him above his ranking.

Talent wise idk how this draft shapes up but name wise it could be one of the best. Just the last couple pages here we've had firkus jagger, luca del bel belluz and my personal favorite maveric lamoureux.
Going to start scouring the prospect list for a goose or an iceman to be maveric's defense partner.

Play dedicated hockey and still have discipline enough to succeed scholastically? Bonus.

Point has been Tampa's top line center the last couple years, I thought? during the regular season he is for sure. regardless, I am not sure either is a sure thing, but I'd take Cooley. he has more skill and "sense", imo. he is also faster and appears to play a two way game.

Plus he hits and plays with grit, something Richardson likes. If the Hawks get the #2 it'll be a tough decision to make. And I thought Stamkos was their 1C.

I think Stamkos plays more wing when Point is healthy. during the regular season it is usually Point with Kucherov and whomever on the other wing. yeah, Slaf is a big guy and it will be a tough decision. personally, I take the NA kid who is more skilled. Slaf had a great Olympics but he also wasn't playing against NHL players (but has been playing against men overseas). I think Cooley taking at least a year in college also factors into my thoughts, whereas Slaf is likely to come right over and immediately be expected to produce (by the fans). I think that favors Cooley, he won't be up for a season or two and could maybe come in with whomever we were to take in 2023 to form a young nucleus. just my $0.02
