People paid big bucks to see their offensive leaders Kyle Calder and Tyler Arnason. About 5000 max, if the die hard STH's and the views of the stands from back then are to be believed.

Thought I’d take a moment here to see what people think about next about the 2023 draft. It looks like the Hawks will have a top 3 pick.
The top 3 are as follows:
1) Connor Bedard 5’10” 185 lbs. Canada 2) Matvei Michkov 5’9” 155 lbs Russia 3) Adam Fantilli 6’2” 195 lbs Canada
I’m only listing these 3 as they’re the run away favourites for the top 3 slots.
My picks are 1) Bedard. 2) Fantilli. 3)Michkov.
Michkov is very small and he’s locked into Russia for two more years. After he’s drafted. The kid is a scoring machine. But I fear with his Russia ties and size, things may not work out as well, or planned.
Also. I highly suggest you fine folks in the Chicagoland area head to see the Chicago Steel this upcoming season. Fantilli plays on the Steel. He’s a very very good player. Also watch the World Jr Championships this August to see Fantilli and Bedard. One of them will more than likely be a BlackHawk!!!

Do you see Bedard as a "generational" player in the vein of Crosby, Kane, McDavid and Matthews? I believe he is. He’s the real deal. He’s breaking McDavids records at that age. Right now, he’s better than Shane Wright or pretty much anyone from that draft. I’ve watched him for the last couple years, and he’s never disappointed. As a 15 year old at the under 18s, he dominated. He was 2 years younger and dominated. So did Michkov. But Michkov seems to be more of a pure goal scorer. And Bedard does it all offensively. Very very very gifted player Bedard is. I heard on Zawaski’s pod an interview with the Steels head coach (forget his name). He was talking about Fantilli and how he’s just a totally complete player and plays the right way with a massive ton of skill. I know coaches talk their own players up. But he did say that Michkov is the best pure goal scorer he’s seen at this age. So it wasn’t all just about his player. He also said that Bedard is the generational player behind McDavid. When there’s just about every scout and GM etc talking about how this is the next big draft since 2015. I’d say it’s generational. And in hockey generational just means once a decade. Most players don’t even play that long. So I’d like to see a lot more picks for the Hawks this year!!!

Another thing about generational players is that they should be able to come in and have success right away. Like McDavid and Crosby have done. Those guys are once a decade type players that’ll be the face of the league for a while. Ones at the end of their career and ones at earlier stages. I think with expansion again, we’ll see high scoring for another few years. The league gets watered down by expansion, and as we’ve seen this year scoring was way up. It lasts for a few years till someone reintroduces a new take on the trap.
So with all that. I believe Bedard is walking into a perfect storm for the league. He should have instant success. And like Zawaski was saying, if the Hawks get Bedard, that’s a game changer. That could accelerate the Hawks rebuild by a couple years. Now they could look to free agency or trade some of their extra picks away to get the extra help. So fingers crossed for Bedard. #FallHardForBedard!!!

Good podcast and his interviews are solid. He asks the tough questions too. He’s a huge Hawks fan and he has a lot of insider info he shares. If he says a trade is happening, it’s probably happening. He’s ripped the last GM to shreds for the last few years. I find guys like him great to listen to. I listened to a couple of his pods on the plane the other day. Great way to pass the time. So yes. Be very worried. Hahahaha!!!

Maybe he’s committed after next year? If he is. I’m only an hour from Ann Arbour and will definitely catch a game. Ann Arbour is a sweet town too!!!

www.tankathon.com/nhl/pick_oddsAccording to tankathon, the only positions the Hawks can get are 1,2, 6, 7, or 8th. Sucks that shithead gives up another top 10 pick. The others he wasted on guys his size which are the same as giving him away. So think about. For Jones. Is it worth it to give up Boqvist, Sillinger and now this years player? Let’s say it’s 6th. Could still be a decent player. That could have been 3 players to help lead the charge instead of 1 Jones that is 2/3 through his career!!! I believe I addressed Bowman at the beginning of this thread... what a fucking jackass. Making the playoffs after one great draft doesn't sound right to me. Most of these players will need some time in the minors for at least a year. My guess is they make the playoffs after 2 years in the cellar.

Fantilli’s older brother has been playing with the Steel also as is Dustin Byfuglien’s cousin Thor who weighs in at 152 lbs.! I was gonna give the old fingers a rest my friend but ya got me thinkin'. Me and a bud who was a long time member on the old boards were on our way home from MN back in June when I walk out of a northern WI gas station to find him talking to a guy around 50 in a Roseau 'Rams' jersey. Guy says he's Buff's cousin so my bud asked him to wait till I came out because he knew I was a big fan. I had some e-mail correspondence years back with Buff's agent, having a mutual friend and he gave me a head's up on his day with the cup back in '10',I was already up fishing as luck would have it,so I made the 3 1/2 hour trek. Stood in line with everybody else in Roseau to get a pic with Buff and the cup,a guy's walking around with manila envelopes and says put your address on the outside and a 20 on the inside and we'll send you professional pic of you with Buff and the cup........couple weeks later it shows up.....signed! His agent said he signed over 500 because the $$$ went to Roseau youth hockey. I spot Buff's mom when I come off the stage and I told her I was up from Chicago to thank her son for everything he did for the Hawks. She told me how "CRUSHED" he was by the trade and asked me if I was coming to the party afterward......I said "I am now"! It wasn't a very exclusive affair though(LOL),it was at his grandfather's trucking co. garage and the whole town was there. I believe the guy's his cousin but he's a bitter old bastard too,I tried to get a little background on how things ended up with the Jets and all I get is how "stupid he is for walking away from 15M dollars" and then this fat ass has the balls to say "the heaviest thing he ever lifted was his dick" about a world class athlete. I said "nice to meet ya" and walked away. Dustin Byfuglien played 869 regular and 66 more postseaon games, logging huge/physical minutes and blocking tons of shots for the Jets.........you can pick your friends and you can pick your ass BUT you can't pick your family! The least productive season the Big fella ever had was 31pts back in his sophomore year(08-09),he averaged 16.7gls and 49.5pts for his career.

Hated it when he left.

Fast forward less then five years and I'm sittin' in a half empty UC,watching the same player pot a first period 'nattie hattie' against the Yotes as a rookie D-man.

BigT - what do you know about Colby Barlow? Article about him on the NHL site - Set Owen Sound record for goals by a 16 year old. Maybe I should have posted this on WJC thread? For a 16 year old he did good. I believe he hit 30 goals. Most kids drafted from Bantam end up in Jr B for a year, and then jump to the OHL the year after at 17, then their draft year at 18. Not many 16 year olds make it to the OHL. Michael Misa is 15 and was awarded exceptional status. He will play for Saginaw next year. As for Colby Barlow. I will say this upcoming year will define where he’s headed. As a 17 year old. He should more than double his points or be close to it. If he gets 35 goals, 40 assists. I don’t believe that’s the greatest for him. I’d hope he puts up around 85-90 points. Then in his draft year he puts up 100+. But the problem with kids coming in at 15/16 is that they can go stale. Like Shane Wright did. I’m not saying it’s the worst thing to go in early. But gotta be careful. So keep a keen eye on him this year. He should take another step!!!
