Sounds a bit like former Hawk Viktor Stalberg. Guy could fly but couldn't take advantage of his speed Speed and having a high motor are two different things, Viktor could skate but he didn't have the drive or consistency, just like Perlini. Agreed, Viktor has trouble converting around the net as well.

Before reading this I kind of thought of him as a Ryan Hartman type but apparently the talent level and speed are potentially better. Sounds great!! Maybe how he plays physically but this kid is much more mature at 18 than Hartman was, or probably is now. Plus Nazar is very humble and said he doesn't like to celebrate when he scores because he doesn't want to fuel the other team, Ryan is the opposite.

So the consensus thought is that Nazer should have been a top 5 pick. He’s the real deal. Ottawa scout said they had him going at 7. This site picked nazar as their projected "steal of the draft" a couple weeks before the event. It mentioned that although dobber prospects and elite prospects had him ranked #4 and #5 respectively, central scouting and craig button both had him outside the top 20 and bob mckenzie had him outside the top 10. They say a lot of nice things about him in this article. thehockeywriters.com/2022-nhl-draft-steal-frank-nazar/That's a great read and at 13 he's definitely a steal. Nazar might've fallen because he's 5'10" but he's 185lbs and looked thick at the draft. He'll easily get in the 190's and possibly crack 200 if he grows an inch or 2. But it's his humble blue collar upbringing and great attitude to go along with his elite skating, shot, IQ, and passing that makes him a special player. Bonus he's a center and a righty.

I like the fact even though he is a good playmaker he is also looking to shoot which a lot of young players when the first come in the league look for the pass and the NHL D are just too good and will nullify most of those attempts or goalies read the play and will stop a lot more than they let in. .

That really would be good. On one of the scouting reports I read about Paul Ludwinski, the analyst made a general comment saying unfortunately much of the time these prospects that have high motors and work hard just don't have the offensive part of the game. And that high energy and hard work is about all they offer. He did say he thought that Ludwinski had some offensive abilities in addition to the high motor, and felt he had the ability to put up more offense than what he has shown so far. So, maybe a step up in responsibility will help his offensive production, in addition to going into his second season for Kingston. Should I say his second season to actually play. Ludwinski had respectable numbers for his first season in the OHL, 16g-27a=43pts, but in 11 playoff games he had 7g-5a=12pts. He stepped up when the games were more important. On the analyst talking about how high motor players don't always have anything else; here is what he said: "Unfortunately, with many players who fit the description of a good skater and high work rate, the list of what else they bring to the table can be limited. Relying on speed and an up-tempo play style is not attractive enough to be considered a high-end prospect in and of itself. As players progress to higher levels, the speed that was once a tremendous asset will slowly be less valuable as the competition will now be faster as you climb the hockey ladder. Fortunately, Ludwinski has a set of tools that stack on top of his constant work rate and skating ability that all work together to make him an intriguing prospect." I interpreted the last sentence to mean he has offensive capabilities to go with his high motor, and that maybe we'll see more off. stats as he matures and plays more. Considering the Hawks took Ludwinski very early in the 2nd, I'd say they thought the same thing. He'll be an interesting prospect to watch this season. Along with how well Nazar adapts to playing NCAA. Since the Hawks more or less swapped Kirby for Nazar, let's hope Nazar adapts well and becomes a good NHL C.

As T-man has said - picking them is one thing and I like the picks overall - but developing is another. If KD can be as patient as he has claimed he/they will be then I am optimistic but if there is pressure to “bring some excitement (fans)” to the UC then we risk damaging the shiny new toys yet again. I truly hope this does not happen.

Both are more related to the trades made versus the actual draft picks. Hawks are an easy target of the pundits lately - fair enough. But I don’t seem to recall the Maple Leafs, Senators or Canadiens hoisting any cups in a LONG time. Habs got to the finals on a scheduling fluke but that’s about it.

As Jay Zawaski is reporting. Dcat is NOT open to signing an extension with any team. And he’s more than likely going to test free agency in 2 years time. So there was no way any team was going to give up any more than what the Hawks got. The reason why it took so long to get a trade done was simply every team talked to his agent, and when a deal couldn’t be partially agreed upon, the asking price was significantly lowered. I think Dcat is a good player. But we’ll see how he does without Kane now. I suspect it won’t be to the tune of 41 goals. But probably decent!!!

I can't wait for Shane Wright to play against the Habs. Did you guys see the way he glared at the Montreal table before leaving the stage? Sure looked like a stare down to me but that's just my opinion. Either way it'll still be fun watching him play the habs. (...and the devils and the 'yotes) The 18-year-old prospect seemingly provided some extra drama on Day 1 of the 2022 NHL Draft when it looked like he was giving the Canadiens a glare while he was up on stage accepting his jersey."Not at all. I was just kind of looking at the cameras in front of me," "To be honest, I don't really remember too much going up on stage. It was just kind of a whirlwind for me so. I wasn't intentionally trying to stare anyone down I guess maybe it looked like that from the video, but there was no intent to stare them down. Just kind of look at the camera and their table was right behind it so I guess it kind of looked like it but there's no intent behind that." www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/shane-wright-on-stare-towards-canadiens-draft-table-there-was-no-intent-behind-that/

We’re at a tourney right now in Toronta. I ran into a few cool folks. One parent on our team works for the Hawks! We were talking about Nazer. The hockey world is very high on him. He seems like a can’t miss prospect. I also seen a lot of scouts I know and met a couple more. We had some drinks together tonight. Actually a lot. So the consensus thought is that Nazer should have been a top 5 pick. He’s the real deal. Ottawa scout said they had him going at 7. Anyways. Met a lot of awesome people from Chicago Fury. We’re gonna meet up again best year. Even the fella that works for the Hawks. He’s not in management. He’s in sales and promotions. But still had a lot of insight!!! I'll bet it's unanimous on here that everyone really hopes you're right. Let's hope he adapts and takes to NCAA hockey next season a lot better than Alex Turcotte did when he went from the USNTDP to NCAA. Turcotte was underwhelming in his year at Wisc. I've read some great things about Nazar, and it all came from different people.

I've read some great things about Nazar, and it all came from different people. They’re comparing him to Brayden Point. Smaller guy that’s fearless and a high motor. But you’re right, it may not go well in higher leagues. I think his best path is one year in college, then turn pro and hit the AHL for a year or two. It’s the best way. Before we know it, could have Nazar as 2/3 line center. Bedard as two pivotal guys. But there will have to be some size at the Center position. Bedard and Nazar are only 5’10”. So ideally, I’d like to see a 6’2” or 6’3” center emerge from the prospects to be a top 6. I know they drafted a lot of them, but we also have to realize most don’t pan out. So some size will be needed. Zawaski was also talking up Korchinski. He was happy he’s a fellow Polish boy! But seriously though they were talking about how this kid is one to watch for over the next couple years. He’s got massive offensive talent, speed, size etc. Hawks had no top end D talent. At least they’ve got one now. Also I’m sure there’ll be a few trades of the guys on the NHL club coming either this week or by the deadline. Does Murphy, McCabe or even Jones wanna stay? That’s why it was good to get a solid dman like that. There’s gonna be not much left in a few years!!!

Both articles sound like they copied off each other in social studies class. Neither know anything about sports. That's true, it's almost as though one site re-worded the same article. And as Nikos correctly pointed out, the Hawks trades figured into their assessment instead of evaluating just the draft picks themselves. Ordinarily, one would have thought a team that had three 1st. rd. picks, and a very early 2nd. rounder would have been pretty certain to be listed as one of the "winners". I did see one site that gave the Hawks a B+ overall. Another one gave them a "C" for the Korchinski pick at 7. Their reasoning was if the Hawks hadn't traded for the 7th pick, Korchinski wouldn't have gone in the top 10. However, they felt the Hawks made up for this with the Nazar pick; they liked that pick. Then they gave them a "C" for the Rinzel pick; thinking he was a bit of reach at 25. I know I've said it before on here: It doesn't matter what various sites say; it's what the team's themselves think about the prospects through their own scouting process. Remember when KD said in the weeks before the draft that he wanted to trade into the 1st. round? I'd say "mission accomplished".

Wonder if they are the same ones that said Sieder was a reach at 6th overall back in 2019. I recall the panel that was hosting the draft thought it might be. Most of these players regardless of their draft position have talent, yes some have God given special traits and qualities, what matters now will be all about Development, Development, Developmemt! in addition to weight room and learning to be a pro.

And these "experts" would know that. I doubt very much KD would have traded away their only first for Jones. Or even trade for the guy anyway. The Hawks 1st rd pick would have been #6, that the BJ's got. So they traded and got #7 & 13 this year.

The sad part is some of those so-called "experts" vote on trophies...so they are the same overrated bloggers who thought Hossa was unworthy od a Selke hecause he was a winger. They are the hockey equivalent of Geraldo and Al Capone's vault. A lot of the negativity for the 'hawks performance by the experts parrots the feelings of the bandwagoner fans out there: they are operating under the assumption that the 'hawks were trying to get better and make a playoff push, rather than fix the damage of the last regime, and start rebuilding. Yeah, we should have got more for Debrincat, but when I hear those "experts" parrot the fans about how Dach was "A skilled young center you can build around" I wonder if they actually watch hockey, or the ice follies: 9G and 30% at the dot is not someone you build around no matter how young they are, and if a 13th falls into your lap for that type of player, you take it. Long game. "Experts" don't get it, so why listen to them or read their rags?"

Could have a blue-line of 21yro Sieder,20yro Sillinger and 22yro Joker right now.....SERIOUSLY.......THE HORROR! Paying D-Cat and Strome anything seems to be tabu while a contract kicks in that bothers no one....wait to see what happens in 4 years when and if the future superstars need new deals and Seth Jones is absolutely un-tradable.
