Looking at the Hawks’ website story about yesterday’s lunch at the UC where they “officially” introduced KD and his 2 lieutenants - Maciver and Greenberg. They are quoted saying the scouting staff is still very strong and capable but they will be asked to look at different attributes than in the past for this draft. Just curious what those “attributes” are? Size? Speed? Snarl? Coachability? Maybe it’s just marketing BS claiming to change what the scouts look for. We shall see.

As the article says, the only way to get a first rounder is trading Kane, Dcat, and in my mind Toews. Not much else there to choose from. I doubt Murphy gets the Hawks a 1st rounder. Maybe a couple 2nds. But that’s it. Looking ahead. I’d have to think Kane could easily find a taker. Look at the teams that don’t make it to the next round and they’ll be loading up. So let’s hope for the Rags to lose. Colorado, Edmonton etc. all those teams will want to load up. Plus outsider teams like LA and Anaheim would love to get to the next level. Where I could see Dcat or Kane heading. Or maybe both? We’ll see soon enough!!!

Thanks for posting! If they can get a 1st rounder for Murphy - by all means!! Seems like a long shot to me but maybe for teams that already have a strong first pairing and/or already have offensive talent.

If we can get a second or even a third I would take it provided we are not retaining any salary.

I’d be calling for a statue out front too. I think we’re going to see someone who doesn’t want to be the smartest guy in the room so much greater than the self appointed smartest guy in the room. We’re about to see how bad the last guy really was. I’m sure he was a nice guy. Gave players all they wanted. But that doesn’t last very long as we’ve seen. I hope he does trade Murph. It’d be a step in a better direction!!!

If it's the early second with Murph, KD should get a higher first, like top 15 or 10. That'll be great to make room for younger cheaper dmen.

Gus and deHaan for their first.
My final offer.

Gus and deHaan for their first. My final offer. I truly believe that if Gus was given all the top PP time this year, his numbers wouldn’t be far off of Jones. Gus is good at a pp QB but not much else. When he got 62 points. Hawks should’ve traded him and got a first rounder. Especially with Boqvist and Joker in the mix at that time. Yet here we are!!!

I wouldn't mind having a first rounder this year, but I feel like KD should try to get as many for next year's first round as he can.

No way, even when he was on the #1 unit to replace Seth he couldn't hit the net and turned it over a lot. He had one good yeah and I said on the old boards they should've moved him then.

K’Andre Miller was picked 22nd overall. They developed him. They did it right. He’s now a solid contributor to that d core at 6’4” 216. He’s been hitting everything in site too. Ryan Lindgren is another, picked by the Bruins at 49. But the Rags were smart and developed him. Now he’s playing a good shit down role there. I really believe with all the Hawks picks. They should focus heavily on dmen this year. Carolina has taken either a Dman or a Center with their first 2 picks the last 4-5 years. Hawks need to stop focusing on the best available and start to focus on positional needs. Or else you end up with what the last guy had!!!

Murph is more dinged up every season now and that last concussion looked nasty. A 1st? That new 4.4MX4 deal would take sweetener from this end to move IMO.

Exactly, I was thinking most teams would wanna see him play first before trading for him, especially before giving up a first rounder. I'd be happy if they got a 2nd or 3rd for him just to move his contract.

I would think KD & Co.'s preference would be to get a C or C/F, since the cupboard upfront is really bare. Not saying that's what they will do, just maybe it's what they would like, depending how the draft goes. There's Reichel as a top 6 prospect, maybe C. Dach?. I can't think of anyone else. There are at least a number of decent D prospects, though not top level types.
My question would be; if the first pick is at 38, what are the odds of a top 6 C/F or top 4 D-man still being around.

Yeah no real top6 prospects besides Reichel, Rockford was full of bottom 6 forwards. Some mock drafts have the Hawks taking centers with the 38th pick. The odds aren't that good to find a top6 forward or top4 dman in that spot but you never know, there's been many great players that weren't first rounders. That's why I like that they have 5 picks in rounds 2 and 3.

If they're going to get more young d-men on the D corp, there has to be an opening spot for them. And there's about 2-3 that appear to be knocking on the door. A 2nd or 3rd wouldn't be a bad thing to get. It would make either three 2nds or four 3rds, so maybe a pick could somehow be used with other picks and/or players to get either a 1st rd. pick, (ideally higher than just the very late 1st) or an extra pick(s) in next years draft. We can always hope.

That would be 2-5 years before they develop enough, unless they get a Makar, or Fox, or Ekblad, or Hedman type. And we know that won't happen for the Hawks. Again, why are they waiting to oust the coaching staff which failed in every aspect of the game? Need to get a real coaching staff in and get real defensive schemes and offensive plays instilled now. I just wonder if this D-corp would have been better with a real NHL scheme instead of whatever the last 4 seasons have been.

I agree, I expect forward/center to be the focus with the earlier picks. if a d that has their eye drops in the 2nd, then that's fine too, but I'd say forwards with top 9 potential are needed worst of all right now. of course, a top pairing d is also needed, but that likely isn't happening after the first round.

King will be cheaper and more likely to do poorly, imo. that is why they are waiting. the wangs did the same with Blashill.

Point, their leading goal scorer and CS runner up the past two playoffs, was a third rounder. Kucherov, their star forward and recent Hart and Art Ross winner, was a second rounder. closer to home, there is the obvious Debrincat example. stars can be had in those rounds. whether our scouts are able to identify them is a another story..

There are a few mid round defense prospects worth a look. Just give me a player that scouts say "has a motor" or is "relentless". No more players that need to be massaged or spanked to put in the effort.

I think they look more at the D. Mainly to have depth in the system and maybe one or two make it and they can trade another vet. I think the plan is to get the high end center/forward. Obviously the cupboards are bare and have been for some time and the Hawks need to fill them. I just think the D is quite bare too. If on forward there’s Dach and Reichel, on D there’s Vlasic and a bunch of maybes. Maybe Mitchell? Allen? Regula? All maybes.
I’d like to see at least 4-5 good prospects in the system. If need be, trade from a strength to aid a weakness. The Rags top D pairing Fox/Lindgren were traded for. Anything and everything should be on the table. But like KD says, the Hawks just need more of everything. There’s not enough here. So I hope a few crafty trades are made and the Hawks get some luck in the dept for the first time in a decade. It’d be nice to see a few nice pieces brought in via trade!!!

I think we have at least a couple guys that will be 3-6 guys on d.
