Q has the Panthers playing great hockey so far this season. Solid win against the defending Stanley Cup Champs with 2 more coming up Friday and Monday. Bobrovsky gave up 2 goals that he should have had, but he's undefeated so far this season. If he gets his A game back, the Panthers could be serious Stanley Cup contenders.

If a player outperforms his career average during a contract should he be paid more or is this really a one way street type of thing? Of course something is part of a contract once that something is in the contract but what you're suggesting will never be part of a professional sports contract. Talon coulda inked Panarin for a bit more but he went with Bob. I have no idea why his play has fallen off so badly and I don't see how any GM could foresee it but if healthy(and it appears so),I don't see how he doesn't regain his form at some point,32 should be his prime. Sutcliffe tore a hammy legging out a grounder as a pinch hitter in 85(he got Frey'd),who TF pinch hits their ace? He tore a rotator cuff shortly after being rushed back but won the Clemente award in 87 with his 18 win bounce back season and won 16 in 89 when they won the east by 6 games. There were a LOT of overpaid BUMS in the Cubs past......Rick Sutcliffe wasn't one of em. During contract negotiations the player and his agent are asking for maximum return. So if they get that, then they are already getting paid for their performance. So is it really a one way street if a GM wants to add a stipulation based on subpar performance? The idea of performance stipulations are great Phil........under performance AND over performance. If a team wants to shed a contract and they have a performance clause that says they can do so,couldn't they just cut a player's ice time and PP assignments assuring a lack of offensive production. If you bring in a 30 goal scorer, tell him you want him to concentrate on defensive play,he plays a better two way game as instructed but his goal scoring goes down because of it........do ya cut the bum?

The Cats have played guilty since they lost to the Wings but that was a great effort against the reigning Covid cup champs. Verhaeghe and Hornqvist were big adds for the Cats,Verhaeghe can FLY and Hornqvist is as good a net front guy as there is and will pay dividends in the PO's.

'Hooby-doob-do'(what a beast) said Q didn't like the split with the Wings last time, losing 4-1 and squeaking out a 2-1 win and demanded a faster start. A 4-1 lead going into the first intermission must have saved some paint on the locker room walls I suppose. There had to be something in the games of Hoffman,Dadinov and even Trocheck that Q didn't like because this is the most cohesive unit I've seen the Cats ice in ages if not ever and Hornqvist could be a real PO difference maker if the team continues to play well.

I agree. I think they had some issues in the room. Now it’s officially Hooby and Barkovs team. Hoffman has had many things surrounding him in his NHL tenure. Even Trotchek was a weird one, but you can’t argue results. And Q is a results guy. It took him a year to clean it up, but he’s literally doing what he’s always done. And that’s win. I think they got rid of the very talented sometimes lazy guys for harder workers. Guys party a lot. It affects their games. And there’s only one place I can think of in the NHL that would be a better party than South Florida!!!

The amount of games teams see each other this year will change the dynamic and sweeping any back to back is always tough but the Cats have to see an opportunity lost in that 2-1 defeat after blowin' the Wings out the day before.......they coulda used two of those seven goals from the game before.....LOL! Could be a motivator,Bob played pretty well, can't lose FO's like that AND it was great to see Hornqvist lettin' the guys have it in the 3rd. If they have a good finish,Hornqvist will be a big part of it due to his leadership alone......his net front play'll help too.

Lackluster first period following a lackluster game against the Wings saw the Cats trailing the Stars 1-0,a TWNETY NINE shot, two goal period followed......had to be a fun intermission. Khudobin put on one hell of a show stopping 50 of the 52 he faced before the Cats and Barkov put it away with an EN goal.

They've shown an ability to sleepwalk at times, two of their three regulation season losses came against the Wings but they've also shown that extra gear that allowed them to dominate opponents. Dallas looked every bit the good defensive team they are in the first last night and Khudobin was on his game and then absolutely got RUN OVER by the Cats the rest of the way, outshooting the Stars 41-14 the last 40 minutes.

I changed the channel right after watchin' the Hawks shutout the BJ's knowin' the Cats were down 2-0 and WTF! Eight minutes to go after sleep walking through 2 1/2 periods and the switch was thrown, three Fla goals in the next five minutes and a regulation win that helps the Hawks too. The Panthers are winnin' games but they still need to find a bit more consistency, can't wait to throw a switch!

Dallas stymied the Panthers for nearly 6 periods until the Panthers poured it on in the 3rd. It is a positive that the Panthers never give up regardless of how much time is left, as they have now won 10 games after trailing. And another positive is Bobvrosky played a great game. The 2 goals he gave up were not soft, the first coming on the Dallas PP off a rebound and the 2nd a deflection.
Also a huge positive is they have had 2 series of 3 games against the 2 teams that played in the Stanley Cup Finals last year in Tampa and Dallas and won both 2 games to 1. These are tough teams that the Panthers are proving they can play with.

No doubt Phil but they play with fire a bit too IMO. Bob's been pretty good and their ability to turn a game like they do is impressive!

They didn't completely get burnt Saturday, but again falling behind by 2 in the 3rd period, only to come back to tie it, fall behind again, tie it, only to lose it in the shootout. Would love to see them score the first goal in a game at some point!

Thursday night I tune in right after the Hawks game and find the Cats down 0-2 with 8 to go and they win 3-2......in regulation. Saturday night I tune in after the 2nd period of the Hawks game to find the Cats down 0-2 again with about 15 left this time, they tie it up,go down 3-2 and tie it up again......missed a wide open net in the final minute too........OT is always a crap shoot but a big point none the less. It looks like Q ain't goin' to the whip till the top of the stretch to keep his team fresh but he might want to give em a few taps at the quarter pole to get em goin earlier.

if marchment's skate was a jet plane, every skate in the league would be grounded.

After all these years, I've never seen something like that. The blades come off every now and then, but not the whole bottom of the skate. I was watching the game when it happened, but it was off camera and I thought he blocked a shot with his foot. Thanks for that video.

The Cats are gonna have to start getting out of the gate a bit faster, the 3rd period heroics are very entertaining and I give the team credit for the no quit attitude but scoreless 1st and 2nd periods four games in a row have cost the team a few points lately.

Actually, in the first period former Panther Vinnie Trocheck had the blade come off on a slap shot from his team mate. I've never seen it happen twice in a game where 2 players had either the blade or complete bottom come off.

It's really getting frustrating every game falling behind. And the results are getting worse, because they've gone from stealing a win, to losing in a shootout, to losing in OT. If they're going to go all out for 15 minutes, I'd love to see that at the beginning of a game once in a while. They're outshooting teams by ridiculous margins while getting 1 point to show for it. And although 1 point is better then none, it's beginning to feel like the great start they had is slipping away.

Showing up on time has been good for the Cats the last two,I'd rather be tryin' to hang on instead of needing a few going into the 3rd.....any time. I get to tune into the Cats/Canes right after the boys take more points from Tampa this afternoon........Hockey day in Illinois!LOL!

Panthers do it again, trailing 4 to 1 midway thru the 3rd period and take over the game, scoring 3 in regulation to tie the game, and winning it in OT 5-4. It's been amazing how often they've been able to come from behind in the 3rd, although I'd really like them avoid this pattern although it really is fun to watch!
Next up for the Panthers are 2 games vs the Hawks. I'm really hoping to be able to enjoy a couple of wins from Q and the Cats!

They won the last few with a lead Phil.....they must have found that boring! It's till playing with fire IMO......BUT.....I haven't seen another team with that type of top gear so far this year. When they 'flip the switch',the outcome looks inevitable to them and their opponent but that switch can't work all the time.....can it?

Yes he does,he also has a few elite players who look to be enjoying hockey. Zito also made some real good moves,Hornqvist doesn't stop,he goes to the net front PP and 5 on 5 and he'll fight to get there and Radko 'The Butcher' Gudas added what every team needs to add....still IMO. Verhaeghe and a couple of kids have helped too but the two physical veterans will be huge come PO time especially Hornqvist. I mentioned seein' Hornqvist letting his team have it during a stoppage in play in a losing 2-1 effort at HOME a few weeks back.....it can't all come from the coach.
