Are Philips, Galvas and Regula getting any better? If not, why not? I thought Hardman was going to be an effective checker. Why has he not developed? What is going on with Teply and Soderblum? At some point, the coaches in Rockford need to be held accountable. I am not seeing much improvement with any of the prospects other than Reichel, and it is concerning. Don't get me started on the so-called development staff. I've posted before who they are and the list to me is unimpressive. Starting with Brian Campbell. Erik Condra Player Development Coach Kendall Coyne Schofield Player Development Coach and Youth Hockey Growth Specialist Yanic Perreault Player Development Coach Peter Aubry Developmental Goaltending Coach Kevin Delaney Skating & Skills Development Chris Kunitz Player Development Advisor

Beaudin now has 23 points in 35 games and is a +13 for Laval. He will never be a star player, but he might still make it as a depth guy. This is yet another prospect the Blackhawks badly mishandled in recent years. I am not at all convinced the team's existing development coaches in Rockford and elsewhere are effective. Drafting the right players is part of the equation for an effective rebuild. Teaching and developing them is even more important. Beaudin has rediscovered his confidence after leaving the organization..... It has become somewhat of a broken record here. The list of young D-men jettisoned by the last regimen was a long one,Rutta helped TB win two cups,TvR plays a decent role for the Caps,Gus had a good year,Forsling's for real and both Joker and Boqvist see BIG minutes for their teams @22&23. Seeing Beaudin get one PS game then being one of the earliest cuts before being given away,Mitchell spending over half the year in the press box and the number of 21-24yro D-men who went w/o development and assessment this year in favor of vets suggests little has changed.......let's hope that changes. There's probably a few more who were in the system still bouncing around the league too and there's one thing every one of em had in common........none of em ever saw the necessary two full years of NHL development and assessment before being jettisoned and Mitchell still being a healthy scratch will undoubtedly join that list.....how many other young D-men join him this summer. The numbers themselves will assure a few more go w/o the necessary prior development and assessment. The team will need Murphy and Zaitsev's 8.9M combined cap hit to reach even close to the floor with 15 players signed for only 43M next year and retaining any but the cheapest salaries isn't the team's MO,so they most likely stay and it looks like LR like C Jones.........still little room at the inn w/o injuries. It's also hard to blame LR for wanting a competitive team with some vets because he's not assured another kick at the can OR to still be the HC when the rebuild's complete. How many first time HC's in any sport are still there when their rebuild is complete?

I have always believed that a team's development program is more important than its amateur scouting department. Young prospects are like clay. The best-quality product still requires an artist who understands how to shape it.
If the Hawks do not fix what is going on in Rockford, it won't matter much which order they select in the upcoming draft. They have destroyed the confidence of too many prospects already over the past decade.
Tanking only works if the young prospects learn to play the right way. We need some good teachers in Rockford badly.

Zero shots by the Hogs in the 1st, down 3-0 after 2. Good chance Hogs dont even make the playoffs. If they do they will be road team for the play in series. I went back to a post I made on March 11 about Rockford and the standings, and at that time they had a ten point lead over the 6th place Wolves. At the time it seemed like it would be enough to keep the last playoff spot; I think there were about 15 games remaining. It's amazing how things have changed. You're right; with how the Hogs have been playing lately, they may not make the playoffs. After losing to the Wolves last night, Rockford's ten point lead on Mar. 11 is now down to four points over the Wolves. The IceHogs have 7 games left, and the Wolves have 8 remaining. And Rockford will play the Wolves again in about ten days. It was bad enough to lose both Fri. and Sat., including losing one to the team you're trying to stay ahead of for the last playoff spot, but to go scoreless for two consecutive games seems worse. I read a couple of comments about the game and it wasn't a pretty sight. Rockford had 19 shots on goal for the game; and had zero shots on goal in period 1. Stauber did well; he had 35 saves on 38 shots. GT had mentioned the AHL's quirky scheduling, so tonight the IceHogs will have a chance to stop the bleeding against Grand Rapids. GR is in the cellar in the Central but they're only 7 pts. behind the IceHogs.

At about 3:56 Soderblom looks like he may have been trying for the open net, but he didn't get enough on it. The IceHogs are also in an alternate uniform. It's simpler and plainer than some of the monstrosities they've worn in the past. edit: I've read the story behind the jerseys from last night. This is the Rockford Hockey Club's 50th season, so the jerseys were based on the original design of the Rockford Hockey Club's jerseys from 50 years ago.

Grimaldi's second goal was a nice one. I'll add this: Currently the IceHogs have only a two point lead over the Wolves for the final PO spot, and each have five games remaining. It showed the Wolves are currently on a 6-0-1 streak, so Rockford has little room for error. Rockford is 2-0 in their last two so maybe they can catch some fire right when they need to.

If the IceHogs are trying to make their quest for the last playoff spot in the Central into a nailbiter for their fans, they're succeeding. The Wolves lost in OT last night so the IceHog's lead over the Wolves is now down to one point, with four games left. And, the IceHogs and Wolves play each other on Tuesday, the 11th, at Rockford.
The Game Report shows Grimaldi had 9 SOG; I don't think I've ever seen a player with that many shots on goal in one game.

Nice to see Teply getting points after a very slow start, 1g-2a tonight, nice one time from a Vlasic feed on the PP.
Philp with 3g-1a, huge game for him and big win for the Hogs.
The Wolves goalie should be suspended, after the 5th goal, he kicked Seney around the knee then slashed Gust.

The IceHogs really picked a good time for the offense and defense to both play a good game; 6 goals from the offense and only 16 shots against Soderblom. They aren't out of the woods yet but they do have a three point lead with three games left. Hopefully their past inconsistencies won't flare up in these last three games.
Here's the postgame Q&A with Philp, Reichel, and Teply.

Nice seeing the shots against was 20 and Soderblom only let in 1. Those really were beauties, especially Reichel cutting across and going top corner. Nice seeing Phillips get one, gwg.

Rockford is now in the 4th playoff spot. Rockford is 4th, with 77 pts. Iowa is 5th, with 76 pts. Chicago is 6th, with 74 pts.
All three teams have two games left. Next weekend would be the perfect time for an IceHog two game win streak.

Valuable experience for Reichel. Knock on wood but so far they seem to have done a good job grooming him for full time NHL next season.
