I am no scout nor have I followed the IceHogs closely. Still, I think it is well past time to assess what has been going on down there the past several years. The IceHogs were loaded with veteran players and did not put up much of a fight this year. Even more concerning to me is the lack of real progress among the many prospects percolating there. Ian Mitchell was at one point a grade A prospect. So far, he has not shown much as a pro. Beaudin fizzled out as did Slavin, Barrett, Altybarmakian, Nylander and others. Now apparently so has Galvas and Teply. We are led to believe that Phillips, Regula and Vlasic are on the cusp and that Soderblom might be the solution in goal..... But given the team's recent track record in player development, I am concerned that these scouting reports might be more hot air. A full reassessment of the coaching staff in Rockford along with the overall player development program is long overdue. Do you see any reason Beaudin was traded for nothing instead of just going back to Rockford? Same with Borgstrom, you buy-out a 25yro center who played 50+ games the year before vs just sending him down too? Mitchell would also have benefitted from playing #1 minutes in Rockford vs playing once a week with the big club IMO and his value might have benefitted too. Back-back solid AHL seasons look better on a resume than being a healthy scratch on a bottom feeder will. All three very well might never pan-out but if only one of em broke-through,it woulda been worth it. Reichel has stated that he sees himself as an NHL player and I agree! If he's sent down again to start next season, they might as well move him too because he's close to spoiling now. How many 'bad attitudes' developed in Rockford after watching veteran after veteran added to the log-jam? Lucas Reichel has seen his German teammates,Stutzel and Seider get massive opportunity with the rebuilding clubs that drafted them in the first round,Stutzel's already signed a huge deal and Seider will too. What will Reichel's bridge-deal look like even with a decent season next year? 2M? Or just a cheap QO? Other than 33 NHL game checks the last two years, the kid's been making 80K a year as his minors' salary and I'd bet he's had enough of that too. Hawks' management needs to take ownership concerning its dreadful player development stretching back most of the past decade plus. No doubt, high draft picks can help turn this sinking ship around. But developing support talent is at least as important if not more. Keith was a second round pick. Byfuglien was an eighth rounder. Not so long ago, this team knew how to groom players and maximize its farm system. Now the kids leave town and get developed elsewhere. Davidson has a short track record and can't be solely blamed for the dismal recent history. Nevertheless, the clock is ticking. Beaudin had a good rebound year in Laval (+17 in 39 games)...... Why did Davidson feel he had to trade the player? What was the return?

Hogs signed Ryan Gagnier of the OHL, he's a defensive center who had 31g-38a in 66gms with the Oshawa Generals. He's 6' 187lbs.

But then he had 36pts (17g), you'd think someone would've drafted him in the later rounds because he's a defensive specialist and a center. And normally an overaged playing being just over a point a game isn't that good but he wasn't playing top line minutes and was on the PK. Now hopefully they get Hardy. Another undrafted forward but he's more about offense, something the Hogs need.
