Ottawa played their 40th game of the season tonight and if I'm not mistaken,Shane Pinto's suspension was for 41 games..... www.prohockeyrumors.com/2024/01/senators-have-offered-several-contract-terms-to-rfa-shane-pinto.htmlOttawa gave all their other young players big money and now they want this kid to take dirt because dirt is all they have to offer after a 20gl rookie year. Rumors are of a very unhappy owner up there,he's pissed-off over losing their #1 pick this year and wants one back. He also wants out of Korpisalo's last four years @4m and wants to acquire a reliable GT. The Sens won a game and are trying to convince themselves they have a shot at spot and need space desperately. After watching Talbot put up studly numbers out in LA so far and looking like ASS in Ottawa last year,I gotta think Korpisalo is a better GT than we've seen this year by a good margin. Take Pinto and 'Korp' with some $$$ retained for Mrazak and TB's 1st? Include Reichel and maybe pluck something else from them? they can have both first rounders for Brady. that would be sooo cool.

He's one of their untouchables from what I read, along with Stutzel,Norris and Sanderson. They might want to move-on from 26yro D-man Chabot,he's paid like a #1(4 left @8m),but he doesn't play like one in his own end and is hurt a lot. Could LR help improve this player with $$$ retained? They might move-on from 25yro Chychrun too,he's big,he can skate and he can put-up offense.......can he still improve and stay healthy? I don't think it would take much doing to get Mark Kastelic as a throw-in with just about any trade with Ott,the 24yro 6'4" 225lb forward can skate pretty well but hasn't broke-through with much production so far. He can be a brute of a fore-checker who's more than willing to mix-it-up witnessed by 102PIMs in 65gms last year. I watched a lotta Sens games last year and this big kid showed some 'flashes at times' but only saw 4th line opportunities. I won't compare him to Owen Tippett because Tippett was a #10 over-all but Tippett was also producing little offense in a botton-line role before he got to Philly.

Pinto is prime for an offersheet this offseason. A team can offer 2x2.1 and will only give up a 3rd rounder I wonder though if any GM will try

Smart move taking a gamble with a cheap 1yr contract. He had no choice if he wanted to play this year,he had the be signed by the end of the month and I'm sure his 'camp' didn't want him to miss the entire season. I dunno if it was a smart move since his QO was 1.2M after making 925K on his ELC but Ott hasn't moved him and doesn't have much more than league minimum to offer,so it was his only move if he wanted to play. It is a gamble though.......a serious injury would be disastrous for the young player's future! The kid's saying all the right things as a kid should coming-off one of the league's most severe disciplinary actions ever but his 'camp' turned down that QO and several other contract offers earlier. Shane Pinto saw Ottawa throw max deals at just about all their other good, young players after one good season, let's see how he feels about being the Sens lowest paid player after one good season of his own. "Gamble" might be a poor choice of words on our part!LOL!

I don't believe he's eligible for an offer sheet or arbitration yet. Hes not eligible for salary arbitration, but eligible for offer sheet this offseason What is a 10.2(c) player? A player becomes a free agent when their contract expires on July 1 after the last League Year of their contract. A player who does not meet the UFA requirements or the Group 2 RFA requirements displayed in the table above, and has been issued a qualifying offer, is designated a 10.2(c) player. The player is only eligible to negotiate and sign a contract with the club that holds their signing rights. They are ineligible to negotiate a contract (offer sheet) with any other club. They are also ineligible for arbitration. If the player does not receive a qualifying offer by June 25th at 5:00pm ET, they immediately become a UFA. www.capfriendly.com/players/shane-pintoPinto's status was 10.2(c) when his ELC expired last summer, but he will have enough games in next summer.

The projected line-up for the Sens' noon game shows Pinto in the line-up..... www.nhl.com/senators/news/senators-at-flyersBut no Kubalik or 24ro 6'4" 226lb Mark Kastelic,Ott would like to lose Kubalik's 2.5MX1 left and now shows 14 forwards. Kubalik's seen limited opportunities but he's still sniffin' 20 goals,he'd help the PP and might pot a few of Bedard's set-ups 5 on 5 too the rest of the way. I still find Kastelic interesting,he has some talent for a BIG,bad ass,he could grow-up with the kids(cheaply),and would take-on a lot of the rough stuff that Filigno has to handle at his age. The Sens would need what they consider a decent #12/13 forward in return if they moved the two but we have a bunch of them. I doubt it,but,if Kastelic's waived for assignment, then that's a no brainer........or at least it should be.

ovi no surprise but i wouldn't have picked b. tkachuk as the only other one.
got tonight's game against the wings on in the background...they said brady tkachuk leads the league this year in penalties drawn. i went back to his first season in 18/19 until now and in the 5 1/2+ seasons he's been in the league, he's the league leader in penalties drawn with 222, ahead of mcdavid (211), marchand (200), brother matthew (193) and nathan mackinnon (187).
looking a bit further, over that time period he's 5th in majors, 5th in misconducts, 1st in penalty minutes and 2nd in hits.
very unique player. about the only other player i could compare him to is his brother.

I've seen Big Brady play a lotta hockey gt and the guy's an athletic BEAST! Two inches and twenty pounds on his 'big' brother! He plays the same intimidating/agitating style that Mathew does but Big Brady ends-up in the 'sin bin' more often than Mathew but Brady hits a lot more too I believe........Mathew's also more experienced and sneakier! Whoever is next up behind the bench in Ottawa next year has to convince Brady he's more valuable to his team on the ice vs in the penalty box IMO. I'm sure his teammates appreciate his 'pack mentality' and willingness to engage any and all,but that double edged sword has him on pace for 179PIM's this year........over 60 more PIM's than any of his previous seasons. He does draw a LOT of penalties and always has,but the thing is,many are off-setting,result in no PP and take him off the ice along with a less talented opponent. To be fair,a lot of the penalties he takes are also off-setting,resulting in no PK,but they take him off the ice none the less. I've seen Brady take himself out of close games with 3rd period altercations that resulted in majors or unsportsman-like calls with a misconduct attached and I've thought he'd mature out of that at some point but his PIM's this year suggest otherwise.

I'd be more for making a trade to help Ottawa out if they actually had anything to give us in return (by way of prospects or picks). Helping any team out cap-wise would have to be advantageous for the Hawks and ideally an expiring contract this summer or next at the latest. The team shows a bit over 9M in projected cap-space and 22.5M in 'current' cap-space with a few players due back off LTIR........weaponize some of this year's remaining space! They mentioned how well Ridley Grieg played filling-in for Pinto during his 41 game suspension last night and Shane Pinto has played well since his return scoring an OT/GWG beaut last night. Ottawa already has young centers Stutzle and Norris wrapped-up long-term for big bucks,Tkachuk(long-term/big bucks) and Giroux skate wing but both are also natural centers who win draws.......Giroux's 56% for his career. Kastelic,Kelly and MacEwin are all 4LC's too. The Sens also have 20yro 6'4" 203lb 2nd round center Zach Ostapchuk playing his first pro season in Belleville. They simply don't have a roster spot and cap-space for both Grieg and Pinto and Grieg has a few cheap years left.......Pinto will want north of 3M this summer and he's worth every penny. I still get Kastelic included on any deal with the Sens, the big, tough 24yro center had a nice tip-in and won half his draws in the 9mins Ottawa found for him last night......I believe he has more to offer. If not, just a big,bad ass for 4LC.

I've been down to grab Pinto (if they'll trade him) since he was suspended. they do seem to have all the big names signed for awhile there and about 12-13 million in cap space for next year with 16 players signed. seems like they should have plenty of room to sign him. I wonder what we would have to offer for him...

I wonder what we would have to offer for him... The way that roster is constructed will lead to a tough decision or two,8 of their 13 forwards are listed C or C/W(they're all centers) and Tkachuk's shown as LW now and he's always been a center........he's 49% for his career. They're a team with an over-abundance of players at a position. Of the 5 forwards they list as wingers,Tarasenko and Kubalik won't return, they've tried to move Joesph already and Brady's really a center. Wingless.....like the Dodo bird. They'll want to do something before the TDL just to keep the fan-base engaged unless they really think they have a shot and they have ZERO room to do anything. They wanted to send their 23yro back-up Sogard down to get work over the break and the only way they could even do that was call-up their other 23yro GT prospect because a team has to carry 2 GT's at all times and they can't afford to bring Forsberg(2.75M) off LTIR and he was due to come off. And that's after sending Ridley Grieg down for the break too. That 12-13M next year sounds encouraging until you realize they'll have to successfully replace wingers Tarasenko and Kubalik who made 7.5M combined and pay Pinto too. Rumors persist they're looking to move 25yro 6'2" 210lb D-man Chychrun,he's a LS but he's played RD since he got to Ottawa w/o a problem. He's on pace for his best offensive season(50pts+),skates like the wind, has finally shown he can stay healthy, starting em all so far and he has one more @4.6M before he becomes an UFA. This is another example of Dorian overstocking a position,Chabot and Sanderson are both LS D-men who'll make 8M each next year......no room at the Inn! Rumors also have Ottawa interested in RS D-man Tanev and will obviously need the cap-space(4.5MX1),the price would be high for Chychrun but would drop if we took Kubalik's 2.5MX1 and drop even more if we took Korpisalo's deal(4MX4),their GM and new owner hate that deal and want a vet GT. A deal of this magnitude would have to have Pinto coming our way and I'd like Kastelic too,the Sens would move all these players for the right pkg.....they will move most of em regardless. Would we part with TB or Toronto's 1st with a few 2nd's and Reichel and a LS D-man going back? How much value does T Johnson have to the Sens with half retained or Dickinson or Donato? If young LS D-men Vlasic and KK continue to work-out and look like the real deal,Chychrun only has a M-NTC at next year's TDL.........you can F'n name your price if he's moved and GT's always have value,'Korp' could be moved with a little $$$ retained if necessary too. The Hawks have the cap-space and assets to do whatever they want to do and teams will have to move good, young players like they always have to. The FO might still see the process as too early for a move like this but sometimes the time is when the opportunity presents itself. Florida is another team that'll have to find a way to re-do pending UFA's Reinhart,Montour and Forsling(all big pieces and all big raises),that'll leave 22yro,ready made NHL shut-down center Lundell lookin' for his RFA raise to 2-3M and no room for 27yro,tough-ass forward Sam Bennett's 4.42M next year either. It doesn't have to be any of these players or any of these teams, but good, young players will be traded because they have to be and no Org has more ability to take advantage of it. It doesn't have to be this summer but if the opportunity to acquire a few quality, young players for the right return......why not?

www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nhl/no-rust-on-shane-pinto-after-41-game-suspension/ar-BB1ibVGJ?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=65a21265aac447bb84153ffc4f26d155&ei=109The Sens have 22yro center Stutzle(8.35M) and 24yro center Norris(7.95M) both wrapped-up long term,Giroux has another @6.5M and has played center his entire career until joining Ottawa and still takes tons of draws and Big Brady(8.35M until '31') has also played a lot of center. They'll also return Kelly(pending RFA) and Kastelic(both 24),as well as 27yro MacEwen.....all 4LC's.......all cheap. Pinto(23) has played well in his return and Grieg(21)has played well in his absence, both young centers are skating on the same line due to the over-crowding at the center position and that is NOT a luxury they can continue to afford. Stutzle,Norris,Tkachuk and Giroux are going NOWHERE and they keep at least two of their cheap 4LC's too, this leaves one spot for a 3LC with Pinto and Grieg both looking more than capable,Grieg being cheaper for longer. If the Sens do move Pinto,I have to believe it won't be until summer but they'll have to do something VERY soon. Back-up Forsberg(2.7M) was cleared today and sending Mandolese(775K)down,along with their current 1.2M in cap-space doesn't add-up. Their win against the Leafs Saturday might have given the Sens illusions of grandeur.....or should I say 'dis-illusions',but they'll want to make a move here none the less and would love to find a taker for Kubalik who saw 8mins in that game, let's see how bad they want to move him.

The Ottawa Senators, otherwise known as the 'Heliocopter team'.....no wings. Not to evoke 'Evil Orval'....LOL!
Tarasenko,Batherson,Kubalik and Joeseph were Ott's only true wingers, their roster currently lists seven centers. Tkachuk and Giroux are shown as wings, but both were career centers until recently. Both do skate wing due to the over-crowded position. Can a team skate talented centers on the wing? Sure they can but that's a luxury that's unaffordable for most teams. You know dam well that they'll boot Kubalik too,but they'll wait till the offseason now. I was hoping they'd stay competitive enough to hang onto Tarasenko and look to move Kubalik's 2.5M......it coulda been an opportunity to pluck something from them....if we're pluckin'.
The Sens are open for business man and it couldn't take much to acquire Mark Kastelik. They're loaded at center and since they've scratched the player 17 times so far,I imagine he's not a part of their long-term plans what soever. The 24yro is 6'4" 225lbs,he can hit or fight, but he can skate and he wins over half his draws too.....does this team have a forward his age that even resembles this? He's signed for 825K next year with RFA rights afterward.
With the massive,long-term commitments to Tkuchuk,Stutzle and Norris,Giroux for another @6.5M who's still playing very well and will probably retire in Ottawa and the emergence of 21yro center Ridly Grieg, keeping Shane Pinto with so many other team needs seems unlikely. The price won't be cheap but I believe the 23yro center is really gonna be a good one!

Wingers made terrible centers for faceoffs, so teams started to have 2 centers on each line.

I noticed a few decades ago when linesman started to become the show by throwing out centers from the dot. Wingers made terrible centers for faceoffs, so teams started to have 2 centers on each line. Paying four guys #1 center money adds up quick and that's what the Sens are doing right now. Another guy on a line who can win a draw is still important and some better wingers do win 40%+ when needed but two C's on a top line is an expensive luxury. I think the game's more specialized now too,a true 1LC would rather have a heavy winger who could do board and net-front work and score tough ones and maybe a goal scorer who can pass as well on the other side. Ottawa has a new set of eyes on everything and they have to know their need to move a center, this is something the Sens should be able to take advantage of because good young centers have real trade value. Stutzle 22 and Norris 24 are the team's #1&2 centers for a combined 16M for the next 6-7 years,Tkachuk's signed for max/max too and he's a natural center as is Giroux and 21yro center Grieg's having a solid rookie year. Pursue Shane Pinto,he's gonna be a two-way stud center! As a matter of fact,he might bet on it....JK! www.nhl.com/gamecenter/ana-vs-ott/2024/03/06/2023020992

www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nhl/shane-pinto-putting-41-game-suspension-in-rearview-mirror-with-career-year/ar-BB1kQjNy'Hockey News' article claims Shane Pinto's play since his return from suspension "pegs him as untouchable going forward" but their roster and salary-cap situations still suggest otherwise IMO. Stutzle has been their either their 1LC or 2LC,he's 22 and signed for max/max and Norris is either a 1LC or 2LC when healthy and also signed for max/max @24. Giroux is only signed for one more but he's still very effective and WILL finish his career in Ottawa and rookie center Ridly Grieg had a stellar debut season. Moving the oft injured Norris would be a possibility to free-up a spot and the cap-space for a Pinto re-do but who's taking on that 7.95M for six more years with such serious shoulder problems.....even @24?

Not gonna lie. I might be that guy. Norris is solid. Ottawa will probably have cap space, I believe 2 of the their Dmen will be gone. They pay a lot of money to their D and they don’t play D very well. Chychrun hasn’t worked out at all. I think they try to reclaim some of what they lost for him. And possibly even Chabot. They’ll need to move out some guys. No doubt. But Norris would probably come cheap!!!

At least one of 28yro Zub,27yro Chabot or 26yro Chychrun are gonna be gone and they probably move 24yro RFA Brannstrom too, they have 8 D-men and 12 forwards on their roster. The Sens have a few very talented, young players, but the make-up of their roster is funky and un-balanced. Twelve forwards, one's Katchouk, one's on emergency loan, five are centers,Tkachuk's really a center too and they pay 6.75M for their shit goaltending again next year. Chabot's 8MX4 will be too rich for most teams considering his play/production and ditto for Zub @4.6MX3 but 26yro Chychrun @4.6MX1 will fetch quite a return IMO. The only knock on him has been stayin' healthy and he's played em all so far this year. Taking the gamble on Josh Norris is an intriguing proposition, when healthy, the big 24yro center can do it all. The questions are,how much do the shoulder injuries decrease his value and how well does he recuperate from injuring the same shoulder for the 3rd time in 2 years. 24y year olds do heal. I'd rather take a BIG run at Shane Pinto!
