He could ask and force a trade, his new contract AAV is cheaper to absorb The signing is a huge advantage for Ott,whether they keep him or trade him, actually, like you said.......probably a HUGE advantage if they trade him with that AAV. www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nhl/examining-the-brand-new-ottawa-senator-depth-chart-are-they-a-playoff-team-now/ar-BB1pm7Ra?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=7ff81083e5724dc4ba2e84beaa226b4d&ei=27He either likes it there or he has a 'piss poor' agent to sign those last two deals when I see what other young players have gotten. Their depth chart expects a healthy Norris centering the 2nd line and Pinto centering their 3rd with two other VERY young centers,21yro Grieg covered 3LC well in Pinto's absence and 21yro Ostapchuk who saw 7gms at center at the end of last year......or 21yro Roby Javentie who's been underwhelming at Belleville. Playing with unproven kids on a 3rd line and not with any of their top forwards can't be what a 23yro on a two-year 'show me' deal had in mind but he knows Norris is iffy. The Sens top line is basically comprised of three centers who are all paid like top-line centers......23.5M wrapped-up on that line with another 17M spent on their 2nd line after signing 36yro Perron for 4MX2. Pinto basically took what Ott had left to offer as far as his deal and might see a 3rd-line role with a few rooks if Norris stays healthy and that won't be conducive to offensive production for him. Interesting quote from that article........ "A healthy Josh Norris would give the Senators an embarrassment of riches down the middle with not enough chairs when the music stops."

At what point does Ottawa and their medical staff tell Norris they can’t let him back on the ice? His injury is perpetual. He may have to retire and insurance will kick in and pay him out. I don’t see him coming back if it happens again. He’ll be done. So he might as well take his time and make sure he can handle it. I feel for the guy. But it is what it is. He should have enough coin to last a few lifetimes now anyways!!!

Sens got a great player in Yakemchuk, beautiful end to end rush in ot for the winner and Elliot Friedman is raving about him after the game.
I was leaning towards Demidov and trade up to get Yakemchuk, Levshunov was a safe pick at #2 but being out 4-6 weeks isn't a good start. He better be worth the #2 pick.
And Demidov has 3g-3a in 6gms in the KHL.

I can totally see why they’d stay away from Lindstrom. He’s still injured. Demi looks to be the real deal and always has. Again, I cannot say I’m a scout or that I had the most experience watching Arty. But the 3 games I seen, I seen the same thing every time. I wasn’t sold. But I will trust the Hawks staff that they seen much more than any fan has. Time will tell. I have a feeling Arty would have fallen quite a bit if the Hawks didn’t take him. I also think the Hawks could have moved up. They were close to doing so. Even if they took Demi at 2. Then moved up to 6-7. They could have gotten the right hand D in Yakemchuk. I think that was a better approach. I remember posting on here when I seen team Canada WJ team play this July in Windsor. Yakemchuk was the best dman there, by far. I don’t know how scouts can miss that? He may very well be the best dman from that draft!!!

But hearing Demidov had a growth spurt and added weight, I was hoping they'd take him. But I was OK with Levshunov. You weren't impressed from the few times you saw him but there's a reason the 3rd youngest dman was named the top defenseman for the big10. He really worked hard at becoming good at both ends and was almost a point a game playing in all situations. But Yakemchuk was #1 on my wishlist and I mentioned that a lot. We know KD tried to trade up to #3 to get Demidov but he should've drafted Demidov and tried to move up around the #5 spot to get the big skilled righty dman. So now we'll have to wait and see if Levshunov was worth the #2. But Yakemchuk looks great so far. I watched the whole game and not just the highlight reel gwg in ot.

I guess on the bright side. Arty has played against men. So it should bode well. Guys like Arty shouldn’t take 4-5 years to reach potential. He should be the guy that gets there in 2-3!!!

www.nhl.com/senators/video/mtl-ott-pinto-has-a-hat-trick-against-the-canadiens-6362892819112I believe this kid's gonna be a stud more than ever but I also believe he could become very frustrated with his minutes seeing the return of Norris and with Stutzle looking for a bounce-back year. Ridley Grieg has also had a good camp and PS @22,he looked capable of handling the 3LC role last year but will see 4LC minutes with all of those centers. Maybe Norris isn't out of the woods yet as far as his injury but he'll continue to 'comeback' from injuries at only 25 if they reappear IMO. That shoulder will make moving his 6X7.95M REAL tough and his annual camp/PS 'comebacks will keep him from being LTIR'd too. The Sens have 20 MILLION tied-up in their top three centers(two of em LONG-term),and that might be unsustainable even with a rising cap. They'll never move Stutzle, they pretty much can't move Norris and Ridley Grieg will be very affordable, even with a bridge-type raise. This leaves Pinto and possibly Tkachuk as potential trade targets IMO but the team would have to falter again to make Big Brady ask-out. Pinto on the other hand might get frustrated with 3LC minutes if Norris stays healthy and the Sens have Grieg ready to cheaply step into that 3 LC role too. It does look like Pinto might get that #1PP net-front role though, because he's a STUD.

www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nhl/ottawa-senators-latest-roster-moves-prioritize-team-toughness/ar-AA1rPTML?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=2698a848b1824b029eb1ccd857b244b8&ei=47Two things stand-out about Ott's opening night lineup, quite a few kids and more team toughness and size. Lotta centers in that lineup too! Stutzle(22),Norris(25) and Pinto(22) will be the team's 1,2 & 3LC's for a cool 20M with 22yro center Greig on Pinto's wing and with big, bruising 21yro center Zach Ostapchuk skating 4LC duties. Big Brady and Giroux are both true centers also and are usually 1st and 2nd on the team in FO's taken,Nick Cousins is a center,as is recently waived-and cleared Gaudette. Which could send 21yro center Ostapchuck back down...... www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nhl/twist-ending-ottawa-senators-keep-adam-gaudette-after-all-send-zack-ostapchuk-to-belleville/ar-AA1rQVsD?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=c0e4333f1d4c441b9cfa417861064bae&ei=76 That leaves,Brady,Giroux,Stutzle,Norris,Pinto,Grieg,Gaudette and Cousins on the opening night roster.....8 of their 12 opening night forwards are basically centers. As are 'next-man-up Ostapchuk and LTIR'd Highmore.......they have enough centers for three teams and pay five of em a combined 35 MILLION bucks. I'm not sure getting bigger and tougher to play against was Ott's biggest problem, they've been pretty physical to play against for a few years now and already take too many penalties as is. They added vet Perron, they return big bruiser MacEwen and added trouble-maker Cousins, team defense and goaltending has been this team's downfall.......not getting pushed around. They also open-up with three kids on D,22yro 6'2 203lb Sanderson was a LOCK but 22yro 6'4" 200lb Kleven's a bit of a surprise(I thought 24yro Benard-Docker might get a spot) and 19yro 6'3" 200lb+ Yakemchuck making the team is a BIG surprise for me. edit: It seems my first posted article 'jumped the gun' a bit,Yakechuck has been sent down to the 'Hitmen' where he put-up 30/71 last year in favor of the two year older Bernard-Docker. www.nhl.com/senators/news/senators-return-carter-yakemchuk-to-calgary-hitmen

I thought the Sens would take a 30-50 game 'look' at Ullmark this year before deciding on what type of offer to make, they had that luxury. Could he have possibly played well enough to ask for more than 8.25M? The shorter 4yr term is attractive since the guy's 31 but the AAV's gonna be hard for Ott to deal with going forward. Why not let Ullmark play 2-3 months behind a team that's seen a procession of solid veteran GT's struggle there, what does he sign for in January if he's sportin' a 2.80GAA and a .895sv%?

I agree why the rush, unless with the Rangers looking to pay Igor $11M to $12M they do not want see the goalie market reset. Igor already has turned down 8 years x $11M. Ulmark is not going to have the Boston defensive system to rely on.

just 1 game but he stopped 30 of 31 in his first game against florida, and i don't even need to look but he'll no doubt be the first start. he made a heap of "10 bellers". not a panther's fan in the least but barkov's impossible to hate imo. bad luck on this play. i hope he's ok.

My fear is Korchinski will become Chabot. Good offensively, but just can’t play D. Management gets enamoured with him and overpays. Ottawa is filled with those types. We had discussions in the past about Chychrun. I never ever seen the value in him. Coyotes got a haul for a borderline NHL player. The Sens have become desperate to fix things terribly. But they gotta be careful!!!

But they gotta be careful!!! You might want to take another look at 26yro 6'2" 200lb+ Chychrun's career numbers my friend......."borderline NHL Player" with 14/41 last year? The guy can skate like the wind too but he's spent his career on WEAK teams so far. The desperate move might have been trading the 26yro with a 4.6MX1 AAV for 34yro Jenson who's never cracked 30pts and has a 4MX2 deal.....and a 3rd. The biggest knock on Chychrun was his durability but he played all 82 last year. The Sens will probably never move 27yro Chabot and probably couldn't with 8MX4 left even if they wanted to. The guy's never even come close to replicating his 2nd year performance of 14/55 from 5yrs ago and has missed 68 games to injury the last 3yrs(31 last year alone)and has never seen over 71 starts in a season and 70 or more only twice in 7 full seasons. 29yro Zub also missed 13gms last year,29 the year before and his 5/25 season last year was a career high......with 4.6MX2 left. KK played the entire season @19 last year........he was expected to make mistakes IMO.

Maybe winning does cure everything and Shane Pinto will accept his limited offensive opportunities in Ottawa and continue to play his shut-down role well, but the Sens let one slip away in Vegas last night, definitely missing the young center's defensive play late in the game due to injury.
Tim Stutzle 3gls/7pts and Josh Norris 3gls/6pts through 7 games both see more TOI and a LOT more scoring opportunities than Pinto 1gl/3pts has after a solid 2nd half last year and a hat-trick in the last PS game. Maybe Pinto figure another Norris injury is inevitable,BUT,if the 25yro Norris stays healthy, the only inevitability is Pinto skating his .3LC role for some time.

I still don't think it'd take much at all to get 25yro Mark Kastelic included in any deal with the Sens. The big, rugged 4LC has won over 56% of his draws through 144 games and has 331 hits in those 144 games too, most with emphasis. If the 6'4" 226lb,certified badass only plays to the level of a 4LC for his 835K hit(with RFA rights afterward),so what,he'd then be cheap for even longer. It's not hard to get lost in Ott's number of big, young fowards,Kastelic's TOI dropped this year,he was scratched a bunch of times and has seen only 33% of his starts in the O-zone,big Nick Paul's utilization by Ott when he was there is eerily similar to Kastilc's so far.......Nick Paul has become a real power forward since getting a bigger opportunity with TB. The physical fore-checker is at an age where he could still develop a bit,fit-in with younger players,be here a while and who knows how he responds if he feels he's found a home with an extension and a bigger role. Like I said,if this guy's ceiling turns-out to be nothing more than a bottom-six 'heavy'.....so what. The guy skates pretty well for a big man, scored a LOT in the WHL,he's quick to defend teammates and will 'drop em' with absolutely anyone.....w/o playing the game like a D-bag. Another thing to consider is the Jason Dickinson paradox. At first no one thought he’d be much more than a warm body. But he’s proved very valuable. Maybe this Kastelic fella could have the same paradox? Maybe he needs an environment where it’s ok to make mistakes to learn? He may need a a totally different approach and team to allow him to grow. Just like Dicky!!! The 6'4" 226lb 25yro center seems to be doing just that so far! He's seeing over four more minutes a game in Boston than he did in Ott and he responded with his 3rd of the year last night to put the B's up 3-2 in the 2nd,+8 through 9gms and has won a career high 58.3% of his draws so far. The big fella also has quite the fight card too, with TWENTY THREE tilts the last three seasons, taking on the likes of Tom Wilson, Xhekaj, Mark Martin and Tanner Jeannnot, among others. He knocked the snot outta Luke Schenn in Trashville Tuesday night for his 2nd so far this year too. His 12 PIM's include those two fighting majors, which means he's taken only one minor penalty through 9gms even though he's 4th in the league in hits. His career highs are 65 games played 7 goals and 11 points, he'll easily surpass his games played if he stays as healthy as he's always been and he might surpass his career offensive production by 'Yanksgiving' at this rate. I KNEW the Sens would move on from this player after healthy scratching him 17 times last year and skating him only 7:43 when he did play. How did I know? This is exactly what the Sens did with 6'4" 230lb Nick Paul a few years back at almost the same age. I think Kastelic was more than just a 'throw-in' for the Bruins in the Ullmark trade due to his physical style but it wouldn't have taken much to grab him before that trade either........it would have taken VERY little as a matter of fact.......just like it did for TB to grab Nick Paul!

The Sens throttled the Blues 8-1 last night w/o Shane Pinto in the lineup due to a day-day injury,22yro center Ridly Greig skated over 14 quality minute and won 66% of his draws and call-up 21yro 6'4" 212lb center Zach Ostapchuk skated over 15 quality minutes with a helper,a +1 and he won 50% of his draws. Center Tim Stutzle(22) is off to a 5gl/14pt start through 9gms and won 62% of his draws last night and center Josh Norris(25) is off to a healthy 4gls/8pts and 53.7% at the dot through 9gms himself. Claude Giroux is also having a good start,5gls/11pts and a stellar 59.4 FO%,the popular veteran will more than likely stay in Ottawa on a fairly friendly deal. 'Chucky' has also skated center and still takes his share of draws (52.6% last year).
Stutzle and Norris are both locked-up long term for around 8M,the two young centers could off-set that BIG $$$ paid to Ott's #1&2 by being cost controlled for a few more years and Giroux should stick around on a reasonable deal too should one of the young guys struggle.
When do the Sens realize their overabundance of young centers and take advantage of it, and when does Shane Pinto realize there's little 'room at the Inn' for him in Ottawa?

As said many many times in the offseason. Pinto would be an amazing addition. Can play right away, just about the right age to realize what being a pro is.
I would like to see the Hawks take advantage of someone like him or McTavish etc. Need a big center that can actually play center. 99% of the kids the Hawks drafted are questionable as to whether they can play center. So it would be best to use the draft capital and get a player of need. I’m not sold on trying to rebuild every position through the draft. I believe every rebuild ends up with maybe 5-8 players drafted. Gotta use a lot of those picks and or prospects on proven commodities!!!

Chabot missed 32gms to injury last year and 46 the last two,Hamonic missed 34gms and Zub's missed 42gms the last two and the last 6gms already this year too. Benard-Docker and Kleven are still unproven and how long before 34yro Jensen gets dinged-up? The Sens have looked pretty good at times so far and if they're still pushing for a spot come January, there's a good chance one or two of their vet D-men are out again. Would a guy like Murphy interest the Sens if he remains healthy in this case? Would Murph and Toronto's 1st land Pinto? Pinto has 1gl/3pts through his first 6gms after missing the last 3 with a day-day injury, his TOI is down over half a minute from last year and you gotta wonder how he'll feel skating' that shut-down role all year after a 20gl rookie season and 27pts and a +9 in 41gms last year. Stutzle(5gls/14pts),Tkachuk(6gls/13pts),Batherson(5gls/12pts),Giroux(5gls/11pts) and a healthy Josh Norris(4gls/8pts 53.7FO%) all through nine games are tearing it up and having a blast on Ott's top-six while Pinto will spend the year chasin' the opponent's best players around and killing penalties.

Would the Ducks give up McTavish, what would it take to get him? Would love to have him. It seems Verbeek wants to build the team his way. He’s drafted centers with the last 2 first rounders he’s had. Carlsson and Senecke. And both he passed up on other higher rated players. So I’d have to think McTavish isn’t really what he’s looking for. So I think if he’s available, it’ll be for a steep price. But we’ll see once this season is over!!!

watching the sens/rags game. they mentioned former hawks' great adam gaudette's last nhl goal before this season was february 13th, 2022. now he's got 5 in his last 4 games. averaging 11+ minutes a game during his 4 game run.
sens got shesterkinned...outshot the rags 41-18 at MSG, lose 2 to 1.

Shane Pinto resumed skating today after missing the last five games and the Sens have done okay with him out of the lineup, only a point out of a spot with two games in hand and the best goal diff in the EC. Stutzle's off to a 6gl/16pt start through 11gms,Josh Norris has 4/8 through 11gms but he's winning over 55% of his draws and averaging a healthy 18:50 of TOI and last year's young 3LC Grieg has been skating top-line wing because 21yro 6'4" 212lb Ostopchuk has played an acceptable and rugged 3LC himself. When you consider the amount of FO's 'wings' Giroux and Brady take, you realize the team is overloaded at the sought after center position......by a LOT.

Davidson should go after Ostapchuck if they're asking too much for Pinto. 57 goals his last 2 season in the WHL, he was the captain in Vancouver, and 17 goals his first year in the AHL last season. He was named assistant captain to the baby Sens this season and had 1g-4a in 6gms before being called up.
