awesome. i barely heard the call that night. I starting yelling "it's in!" before 88 was even behind the net. I knew it was in and we had just won something I questioned just a few years earlier that I would see in my life time.

happy 78th tony. my boyhood hero for some reason. i just liked the guy. still a bit pissed off he never wrote me back. : ) sent it to : tony esposito c/o chicago stadium chicago, illinois.
i'm guessing about '69 or '70. i even drew him a map to my house if he was ever driving by and "wanted a coffee." the only fan letter i ever wrote.

Can't think of anyone that would be better for that spot. We met him years ago at a Hawks charity event at Dave and Busters right before his first season here. We ended up chatting for about an hour outside the place afterward. Really great guy.
We met him a few more times at Hawks games talking to him afterward. Once we were a couple of the last people in the U.C. except the cleaning crews and finally got asked to leave. He even gave us tix a couple times.

Hawks lost in the conference finals in 68,70,72 and 74 and in the cup finals in 71 and 73. How much difference would this guy have made?.....

Fifty years ago tonight,I was watchin' the game on a fuzzy/closed-circuit tv feed at my uncle's bar on Blue Island(nothing tropical about it...LOL)and it crushed me @14. I hadn't witnessed a single Chicago sports title yet at that point and I wouldn't for 15 more years......39 more to see a cup!.....

Crow with some monstrous saves in the OT(s). the next day I saw the guy across the hall in the elevator. he told me I woke him up, he had fallen asleep on his couch watching the game.....

I saw one guy a couple days after we won in 2013 and he told me I was the first person he thought of when he saw they won the Cup...

fun times on Michigan Ave that day, my friend! tell me you were packing a camcorder. ha, nay. I don't do well with taking pics or videos. those things are usually left up to whomever I am with. on that day, the ex brought the camara and took pictures. I still have one of Tazer with the Cup raised and the confetti falling as they stopped right in front of us. once they started moving again it wasn't long before I was also on MI Ave following them up to the stage...

i think this qualifies as hockey history because i saw at least 2 camcorders in it. The only one of the three I made and it was bedlam my friend. Never got close to the stage area cause in was a hot mob scene but me and a bud ducked into a nice, cool bar to watch all the festivities after the procession came by and we screamed our thanks for ending the 49 years of hell. Got to the normally sleepy stop called LaFox 40 miles west of Chicago @7:30 in the morning and the platform must have had 100 people in jerseys ready to rock.....unreal. It just got crazier the closer we got and I felt bad for the sorry bastards who were actually trying to get to work but F em for not calling in sick and donning a jersey too!LOL One drunken F'n train ride home!

I hit the red line at Irving Park about 630 and it was already packed. we got downtown and found a spot fairly close to the stage....until the fuzz came and kicked me off the bus stop I had perched on, lol... we moved down the street a block or two then so we could have a front row spot... what a long hot fantastic day that was!

Hope you weren't heat adverse or you had to pee.....GOD forbid! My bud was near the stage and he called me right after it went by me and I was about to start following from Dearborn and Washington but he said it was nuts and he and I met and hoofed it back to the metra station and found a nice, cool bar with a handful of hawk fans in it to enjoy the festivities which were just starting. My bud was also a STH and got me to two PO games that year, woulda been more but the guy has two kids and I wanted him to take the CRAZY money being offered in the last two rounds. He made one WCF game and one SCF game and took his two girls since he had three together........he made a fortune in the other games! I also had a chance to make Big Buff's day with the cup later that summer up in Roseau.
