The last Maple Leafs captain to win a Stanley Cup There’s a few things to note about George Armstrong , who died in January at age 90. He was the captain of the last Toronto Maple Leafs team to win the Stanley Cup. He played more games for the Toronto Maple Leafs than any other player in the franchise’s history. He was one of the first NHLers of Indigenous descent, thanks to some Ojibway heritage on his mom’s side. And since that 1967 Stanley Cup win was the last NHL game played before the League’s first expansion, Armstrong could claim to have scored the last-ever goal of the Original Six era. George Armstrong holding the Stanley Cup in 1967 Lot of history in this man. I was unaware of his passing.

Keith Yandle got in his 964th game tonight, ties Jarvis. Pretty long haul.

that was brilliant. crosby and kessel got my biggest chuckles. i wish they'd say who owned the original hair. there's a couple there that looked familiar. Edit: looks more like a phil kowalski than a phil kessel.

happy 79th birthday to paul henderson, who is without a doubt my greatest hockey hero who never wore the indian head. and all it took was one goal. he was born in a horse drawn sleigh on the ice (lake huron) while they were trying to reach the nearest hospital. his dad was fighting in WW2 and never saw his son until he was nearly 3. played his first hockey in the basement of a chinese restaurant. all pretty standard stuff... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Henderson

the st. catherines teepees alumni team would be something to marvel back in the day. www.insauga.com/was-the-st-catharines-teepees-the-best-feeder-squad-of-1960-70s-nhl-stars/Was the St Catharines OHA Jr. A team, the Teepees, the greatest feeder squad ever for producing NHL stars in the 1960s and 1970s?
A case can certainly be made for it. The team, which ran from 1947 to 1962, sent 54 of its players to the NHL during its existence.
Four of them – Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Phil Esposito and Pierre Pilote – are in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Some of those who didn’t make the HHOF are nonetheless familiar names to hockey fans from the 60s and 70s. Goalies of that era who were Teepees included Roger Crozier, Denis DeJordy, Marv Edwards and Roy Edwards. Famous forwards from the Teepees included Vic Hatfield, Ken Hodge, Dennis Hull, Chico Maki, John “Pie” McKenzie, Ken Schinkel and Fred Stanfield. Not to mention, defencemen like Wayne Hillman, Pat “Whitey” Stapleton and Elmer “Moose” Vasko.

Ray Borque gettin' a cup is one of my favorite hockey moments ,what a HORSE he was. The guy's still 11the on the all-time scoring list from the back-end(Jumbo Joe needs 44 more to pass him) 1,612gms 410gls 1,579pts +527 in the regular season and 214 PO games saw 41gls/180pts and a +27. Big dude and a big-time hard ass with 1,100+pims too! He had 59pts and a +25 his final year at 40.

I'm sure most Blackhawk fans would've loved Ray with the 7th overall pick but they took my cousin Keith Brown, or else I'd be a Bruins fan. But Boston was one of my favorite teams growing up because I really liked Bourque, and big Cam Neely (Seabass) was also one of my favorite forwards.

Hell yeah he was, definitely not blessed with Rays offensive abilities but he was a warrior for the Hawks for 14yrs. I still think if the Oilers didn't play dirty in game 4 of the 92 conference finals sweep, my first live game, the Hawks would've beat the Penguins. Keith took a very late hit from behind into the boards and separated his shoulder, that ended his playoffs and eventually his career. Having him on D would've really helped. Also in that game 4 Kevin Lowe slashed the top of Belfours glove when he had the puck covered on the ice, I still think he might've broken it. Game 1 vs the Pens after the Hawks had a nice lead one shot Belfour couldn't catch the puck and it fell to a Pens stick for an easy goal.

I met Keith at Castle Grill across from Johnny's Icehouse one day. I was having lunch there and Keith came in and gave some tickets to George for that nights game. I think he came in with Stu Grimson if my memory hasn't failed completely yet. Or Stu was on a different day.

a good old fashioned hockey fight. That fight reminds me a lot of the hockey around that time, a lot of offense with defense as an afterthought. Funny thing about those Vancouver sweaters, they never missed the playoffs wearing those things.

7 years ago today. seems more like 70.
anyways, MAF knew he was hooped when he missed the poke check.
since the shootout started to be a thing in 2005/06, fleury has the 5th best save % at .735 (minimum 25 games played) and is tied for the most shootout wins with henrik lundqvist with 61.
and since 2005/06, toews has the most s/o goals 51 and kane is tied for second (with frans nielsen) with 49.
