well... that was an unexpected spending spree! I didn't think they would drop that much money today. I like that only a couple deals are beyond 2 years and those two should still be decent players by the end of their deals (Turbo and Bert). a couple short term d men wasn't unexpected, and there will still be room for 1-2 of the young guys to come up and see time while the rest hopefully all mesh in Rockford. the next few years are gonna be fun to watch up north in the Rock. clearly KfC and Co have bought into the Yzerman Over-Seasoning plan. The good news a lot of these propsects playing together in Rockford will build chemistry, familarity and commaradiere so when the join the Hawks it should be a much easier transition. that's what I am hoping for!

Bob, the Hawks 1st is a stretch to be as good as Pinto. I think Hawks pick outside of the top 10. Especially if they have Pinto. I don’t see it happening. But if it did, I’d be first to say that was a massively great pick up!!! I don't mind any of the guys added and I actually like a few of em,as stop-gaps go,a team could do a lot worse. Shane Pinto on the other hand is an entirely different animal,so to speak. He's a talented center with size and toughness BUT he's age appropriate and could be wrapped-up long term for those reasons. He could be a stabilizing presence for kids joining the team once those stop-gaps expire. I will say that I don’t believe we have a #1 or 2 centerman. I live Bedard and sang his praises over the last 3 years. But I’m not sure he’s a centerman on a Cup winning team. A winger? Yes. But add in Pinto (long term). And you’re half way there. Things are looking better!!!

I know many here including myself have linked Pinto to Hawks, have there been any reports that Hawks have same interest.

Well just got to my womans hotel unfortunately its adjacent to the horseshoe casino so I will be out some money. Well done KD we have an NHL roster not a good one not a shit one. Love the TT signing and Tyler. I am really glad that KD is gonna start all the kids together down in Rockford thats a fantastic plan. 3 should get a call up after TDL then back for playoffs. It was rough watching last year this year this year should be better. Also liked the message sent none of the youngsters on the roster showed much last year and there gone time for everyone to earn there time.

Have the Hawks been involved in any trades today?
Nevermind. Kyle had been busy. Found em all with google.
On an unexpected note, The Blackhawks involved in the Kyle Beach scandal have been forgiven. Unfortunately, I don't think Q would be interested in coaching the Hawks at this time. Maybe when they are ready to challenge for the cup.

Did the Hawks really need to sign TJ Brodie? Is the plan to have the kids spend more time in Rockford? With Brodie, Jones, Martinez, Murphy, KK and Vlassic the Hawks seem rather full on the backend, so guys like Allan and DelMastro will have to wait at least another season to try and crack the lineup, with our new #2 draft pick.

Martinez will be the 7th guy. Now EDM can come along slowly and earn his ice time. Levy will probably go back to State. Then next year, Martinez deal will be done and Levy comes up. Maybe TJ wants to play for a contender? And they trade him. One thing is for sure. No team filled their entire roster their own draft picks. The message being sent? They have to earn this. It will not be given. TJ and Martinez will not make it easy for a kid to take their spot. And that is priceless!!!

Is this now a playoff team? Likely not. But at least the team will be competitive most nights. They will be watchable. Most positions are now filled (finally) with NHL players as opposed to minor leaguers. The prospects now will be developing where they should be. Davidson has done a great job today. Most of the players brought in vastly improve those they replaced (Teravainen vs T. Johnson; Bertuzzi vs Raddysh; Martinez vs. Tinordi; Maroon vs. Reese Johnson; Smith vs Entwistle; Broissoit vs Soderblum). None are signed to long-term anchor contracts (ie Dale Tallon --- Khabibulin for $6.75 M; Brian Campbell for $7.1 M). The contracts are staggered. When a prospect matures and demonstrates he is ready, there will be a spot for him. An optimistic mvr!?!? Somebody hold me, I'm freightened. I still think deliberately tanking is unsportsmanlike and wrong. There was no justification for the on-ice product the last couple of years. But now the general manager has started spending money. I think he is doing so for the most part quite wisely. He is spreading the dollars out, and he is not locking much cap space in long term. This is basically exactly the strategy I have been preaching here for many years. I also really liked his approach at the draft. We still need some big boys, but I think that might come. Maybe in a few years, I will forgive him for his disgraceful treatment of our team's hall of famers (and for trading away Dach and giving away Strome and the others). We will see. I have softened on Davidson over the past weeks: my feeling is we can extend his visa (green card) for another year.

The days of wasting talent should be put behind us. I promise you he admits he wasn’t good. His father passed away last summer and he didn’t even have time to process it before he went back to the meat grinder in Toronta. Then they hired Tree as GM. He doesn’t get along with him. He didn’t in Calgary. He’ll be better. He was Toronta’s best dman the prior 4 years. He’ll be a welcomed addition trust me. He’ll also push kids to be much better. Last year he told me that Korchinski is the real deal. He played against the Hawks twice and said that he has everything you wanna see in a young kid. I said that on the boards a few times. Also he and Bertuzzi are good buddies. So they’re going there together. I think the Hawks will have a great year. Much better than last. And I wouldn’t count out the playoffs. I still feel Nashville, Minnesota, Winnipeg, Utah and St Louis are all beatable for one of the final 2 spots. Colorado and Dallas are the only 2 constants. Hawks will be in the mix and have cap space and depth to to more!!!

I don't think he'll ever play in Rockford, yeah he looked lost and frustrated at times but he was a teenager, plus he lost his dad. Not to mention Megna was his partner for pretty much half the season. The one good thing about Brodie and Martinez is they have 1700gms combined, far more than Tinordi and Megna.

Not saying this is the best thing to have in common. But TJ lost his dad last summer. He didn’t take it too well and it totally affected his season. But TJ has raced about KK. So I feel that’s someone he can lean on for hockey and off ice shit. KK will be much much better. He was 19 in a dream land last year. I feel this year he’ll be much more competitive. And now there’s competition there to move him down a slot if he struggles. Then slide him back up if he looks better. No offense to Seth. But I feel he’s there just for hockey. Not sure he’s the best leader. They clearly brought in Alec and TJ for more of a leadership role and to help the kids. Especially on the road. It’s very easy with all that money in great shape to go out and chase tail. But the older guys will know when to reel them in. Obviously you can’t stop someone from living. But it’s good to have vet presence to let them know to chill out time to time!!!

But I doubt it. Hawks don’t have the necessary pieces to do so. They don’t have a 3rd. Gotta have your own picks. Not another teams. So. If the brass feels confident that the team will not have a top 10 pick. I say go for it. Pinto is the 2 way forward needed to win!!!

Also, I feel at least 2-3 kids will make the Hawks. They can always be sent down with no waivers. Joey Anderson can be sent down and probably will if the kids play well enough. Plus, at this stage, the “Big Rig” Maroon may not play every night. So they’ll slot kids in place of them. It’ll be a slower schedule for them. But definitely worth it.
At least there’s stiff competition for spots. Kids gotta earn it and not have it given to them. Much much better. This should have been the plan with Dach, Boqvist, and about 5 others!!!

My feeling is that Pinto's fate is tied to Norris.' If the Senators believe Norris will recover, they likely will trade Pinto. But if not, they keep him. They can afford to wait it out a bit longer to see how Norris is doing. I think the Hawks would be able to get Norris for a song (perhaps even with an attractive incentive package and some salary retained) if they are willing to take the risk. As it stands, the contract is far too much of a burden considering the player's health history. I would want to see the medical reports and get some second/third opinions first. Shoulders are so iffy. If Norris is good to go (and the Senators are anxious to unload him and willing to pay up), he'd be a perfect hit here for the next several years.

Getting out from under the Norris contract would free the Senators to sign Pinto long term. But until all parties know how Norris is doing, everything will be in a holding pattern. That is, unless a team steps up with an offer-sheet, which is unlikely.

Norris is an outstanding, young center with size when healthy and 24 year olds do heal,he just turned 24 in May. My major concern about that thrice injured shoulder is he injured it twice just taking FO's which could affect his ability to play center. He may have been rushed back too soon and he might be rushed back again,it sounds like the Sens have every intention of having him ready around the start of the year. Ottawa just gave David Perron 4MX2 and Micheal Amadio for 2.6MX3,Pinto will NOT settle for their scraps again.
