yet Brodie still plays. No problem with making guys earn it and all that crap but let’s not give “older vets” a pass for terrible games then

Yeah bench the young centre because you can't embarrass the $11.5 million of underperforming wingers. Three guys who've never played with each other before.

Hmm...not sure how I feel about that. I wouldn't say that Bedard played particularly well in the last game either.

gotta keep that next contract from being too expensive some how... the stat sheet's doing a pretty good job of that. idk if sitting shevy is the right thing to do or not, but i'll go out on a short limb and bet it's the one and only time it happens this season. i think the coach has a better handle on those kind of things. and i'd be more than a bit surprised if luke and KfC are conspiring to save a few $$ next year at shevy's expense.

He’s benching Kurashev only because he can’t shame his vets or the G.M.’s new free agent signings. The article is a bunch of contradictory statements and trying to blame Kurashev for that first goal? Hall has produced little but low probability shot selections that do nothing but kill the play and Bertuzzi has been nothing but below average for what he was predicted to bring. The line has zero chemistry but what was Richardson expecting from three guys who had never played a shift together before this. Kurashev is taking the heat for some other underperforming teammates.

maybe that's right. i think a lot of teams are hesitant to sit out a veteran, especially just a few games in.
or maybe it's that the coach knows exactly what shevy is capable of talent wise and effort wise and he's not seeing it from him. i would imagine he would know better than anyone...even us.
bedard/nick/turbo have the most 5 on 5 ice time together at 64:16.
next on the list is shevy/hall/bert at 62:25.
3rd is joey/dickie/mikheyev at 37:10.
lots of new faces on new lines, the other 2 lines seem to be meshing ok.
i wouldn't call him a whipping boy just yet. i'll say it again, i bet it's his only healthy scratch of the year. and like the strategy of it or not, it'll give hall and bertuzzi a kick in the ass as well.

I tend to agree, he knows what he's getting with the vets, I would think he knows what he's doing ( or hope he does), and it's nothing more than a wake up call, to let chevy know that's not what he expects, we got to let him coach the way he thinks is the best for the team

just a heads up about posting from twitter, or X if you want. our wise and fearless chief (t-man) told me many seasons ago about posting from X. if you post the the link, you'll see http://x.com....etc. etc. if you backspace over the x and type in twitter, the tweet will be available to see without having to click away from this page. so it would be: https://twitter.com...etc. etc. works for me on the laptop or the phone. all that extra clicking is just wearing me out...

I know I'm just a guy on the internet with opinions and LR is a legitimate NHL'er with lots of experience, both as a player and a coach - so the question is asked - who am i to question the coach's decisions ... good question ... but you know that ain't gonna stop me from questioning his decisions.
So let's go back to training before the 2023/24 season. We were thinking about Reichel having a few good games at the end of the 2022/23 season playing with AA at center and Kurashev on the opposite wing. I was hoping LR would keep that line together to see if it would unlock Reichel ... but ... Bedard was ready to start his NHL career and (rightfully so) that was a higher priority than trying to coax an NHL player out of Reichel, and that worked well for Bedard and Kurashev. However, LR decided to put Reichel at center and that blew up and basically spiraled Reichel out of any good vibes he had coming out of the previous season.
Fast forward to now where Teravainen has taken the Kurashev on Bedards win and Kurashev has been moved to 2C. Correct me if I'm missing something but aren't Reichel-AA-Kurashev all available to be re-united? Call it the 3rd or 4th line if you want - but why isn't that being tried?

Anthanasiou is replacing Kurashev at 2C, not a fan of Luke rewarding a guy with zero points and not doing much when he's out there.
And I love Foligno but he should be back on the 3rd line. Bertuzzi should've got a shot on the top line after he scored, from a sweet feed by Teravainen.
Put Reichel on the wing with AA and Hall.

gotta keep that next contract from being too expensive some how... All they've done so far is GRIND the guy on every contract he's had.......he couldn't be more IN-expensive. After playing 54 and 67 game seasons on his 925K ELC,the team GROUND him into a late summer, absolute league minimum 750K deal the following year and GROUND him again the following summer before inking that 2.25MX2 deal.......barely avoiding arbitration. He responded with a career best 18/54 season with an improving FO% every season too. He coulda been demoted to 8-10 4th line checking minutes too,BUT I have no problem with LR benching a young player for a game either. As long as the Org realizes the player still needs further development time with linemates capable of helping him do so. Kurashev could be an important AND an 'age appropriate' player for the rebuild @25 if he develops further. Does 'further development' happen with him.......or with Reichel? If not,it's on the Org. IMO. If things go well,Kurashev could be a solid transitional piece for youngsters coming-up due to his age and could become a better player over the next five years too for the same reason. He'd also remain a reasonably inexpensive re-do..........especially compared to the 4-6M the team willingly throws at old fucks. If things don't go well,Kurashev could easily be yet ANOTHER young player lost for nothing or close to it.

I'm thrilled to see Richardson changing his development approach and now spotting Reichel and the other young kids more carefully. Reichel is now playing consistently on that fourth line, and he seems to be getting better every game.
This is how you break in a young kid and build his confidence.
Playing sheltered minutes on the bottom six means lining up against the other team's least effective players -- often their rookies and their minimum wage types. Reichel will be able to use his skills here. There's less pressure and fewer responsibilities. He won't have to worry so much about back checking and playing defence. Missed coverage and sloppy turnovers won't always result in goals against.
The Hawks ruined Dach a few years ago by exposing him too early to the other team's best players. They did the same with Reichel last year.

Phillips was called up...again. Not sure why when Martinez is close and they have Allan and Kaiser up. I believe Allan should get the nod over the other two. I’m still not sold on either. They’re starting to age out. Like how much more development time does a 22/23 year old need? I get that at times Kaiser looks decent. But for the most part he’s just a warm body. I’m not saying he should be thrown away. But I’m sure he and Phillips could be trade fodder one day soon. And maybe that’s the reasoning behind those two staying up and or being called up. I’m not convinced all players need the AHL. I think it’s good for some. But it think that a player can come along slowly at the NHL level. Start them out as #6/7. And let them earn their way up. It’s really that simple. Next year, as of now, the Hawks have Seth, Murph, TJ and Vlasic. Are they gonna insert Levshunov, KK and say EDM for their 7? I mean it’s possible. But that’s a lot of youth at one time. Then on forward there’s a shit ton leaving, Maroon, Smith, Hall and Anderson. Losing those 4 will be tough to replace with what the Hawks currently have. I would guess Nazar, Dach, Slaggert maybe Savoie? 7 rookies or near rookies will get the team to take a step back. But it is what it is!!!

Jumping into the fray with my own delusional banter:
What if we approached the Bolts with a Godfather type haul for Kucherov in the next off season? He still has 2 years from 25/26 to 26/27 at 9.5M. He will be 33 at the end of this contract and I can see him skating for another 3-4 years after this term. Granted this is all throw shyte at the wall and see what sticks type stuff. They are IMHO reaching the end of the road with their Cup roster and might look favorably at retooling.

I doubt they'd take picks only too, they'd want a good young player in return along with some high quality picks IMO. We'd be the oldest 'rebuilding' team in history if that happened.....if we're not now. Time to target quality,YOUNG players!

Antoin Lundell was another young center I mentioned the summer before last after the Cats lost in the SCF,his offensive out-put at the time averaged 15gls/38pts but it was his PO quality shut-down ability that had me intrigued.......I thought he was 'getable' with the right return back then. But,the team decided to let Brandon Montour walk after 33gls and 143pts in three full seasons and signed Lundell for 5MX6 instead, that combined with Lundell's 5gl/12pt 52FO% to start the season says that ship has sailed.
The Cats will see Verhaeghe's 4.1M becomes 7MX5 next year and God only knows what 'Son of Sam' Bennett will get on a re-do,but it'll be a hell of a lot more than the 4.42M he made last year! Ekblad's 7.5M deal expires next summer too, but can the team afford to lose the 28yro D-man who averages over 23mins a game? Fla's GT tandem also makes 14.5M for two more years but if anybody can figure it out, it'll be Zito.

And it really doesn't have to be RFA's who've already established themselves either, there'll be plenty of young players yet to break-through on teams without a roster spot or cap-space for em due to their own over abundance of young players at a certain position.......spotting these players isn't easy but it'll be a necessity IMO. The Blues acquired #8 over-all 6'4" 212lb 23yro D-man Broberg and #14 over-all 6'1" 208lb 23yro LW,C Holloway for a couple 2nd's and signed both for a combined 6.87MX2 with RFA status afterward......both are off to good stats in StLouis with MUCH larger roles.

I often mention that properly assessing and developing the large number of kids the Hawks have in their system might be tough to do,but the truth is, nearly every NHL team will have a few kids who just didn't get the right opportunity and it's hard to stay patient as a prospect approaches their mid-20's with younger prospects arriving. Maybe 23yros Phillips and Crevier never amount to much, but it looks like both could be lost for very little to nothing w/o much of their own opportunities. Many other teams will face the same scenario around the league and lose patience with some of their kids......gotta be able to spot the one's who might improve with bigger roles!

I think he's just tapping the surface of what he will be because he hasn't tapped into his offense yet. He has very good instincts and the skating to make plays. In fact I would put him at QB on the PP - replace Seth (which should be done regardless) and have Kaiser and Vlasic be the 2 QB's - start with Kaiser on PP#2 and see how he does.

Hasn't tapped into his offense, he hasn't been that offensive at any level. His 3rd year at Duluth he had 5g-18a=23pts in 35gms, Levshunov was almost a point a game his only year. And 50 NHL games played and not 1 goal doesn't scream offense, you'd think one would've went in by now. He's aggressive and plays hard but his instincts are like Seths, sporadic. If they were good he wouldn't take bad penalties or cough the puck up so much.
