If Brodie does not play, who is sacrificed instead? Sure, Phillips can fill in and perhaps he will do just as well. But what happens when there is an injury? Do we sacrifice another kid like last year?
Don't we then find ourselves on that same carousel of prospects by promoting them too early and exposing them to a losing culture? Have we not learned from Dach and Reichel?
Davidson brought in guys like Brodie and Martinez precisely because he did not want to expose Korchinski and the others to more damage. I believe this was a smart move. Unless the trade return is truly great, I favour keeping Murphy for another full year for exactly the same reason.

If the kids like Kaiser, Phillips, etc. aren't going to get regular ice time, we don't want them to sit in the press box. They should be playing or playing in Rockford. Let the vets who are who they and aren't going to develop fetch Ball and Pang their soft serve. Then when an injury happens guys like Brodie take over slot 6 and we hope they don't shoot us in the foot.

Rewarding Donato. I don’t mind this move. The first line needs a digger and in reality TT has only two even strength points playing with Bedard. Although I still think Bertuzzi should be the one dropping to the third line, TT to the second. Hopefully the PP lineups have been shaken as well. Donato leads the Hawks in goals by a wide margin, so it makes sense for him to be on the first line. He's been the Hawks' best player so far.

Of course there has to be patients with new players and Brodie has no value now, so he shouldn't be an option, but would you be against trading Hall and/or Murphy if it meant getting a guy like Pinto or McTavish? Neither guy will be brought back when their contracts are up, so moving one or both now makes sense. Get a young guy who'll be part of the future and has 3/4 of the season to build chemistry. And KD is doing exactly what he said he'd do. He knows a lot of change can't happen every year but it was necessary the first couple. Next summer won't be as bad and it'll get better after that. I'm keeping Hall until the trade deadline where he will have max trade value because his contract will be almost expired. Regarding Murphy, my guess is he won't get moved until the spring for the exact same reason. There will be others offered around, including likely Donato, Smith and Martinez. AA has no trade value. My guess is that Hall is worth a second rounder at best. Murphy might be worth a late first if packaged with Donato and offered at half price to a contender at trade deadline. Martinez might get you a third and Smith a fourth rounder. None of these trade chips will achieve anything worthwhile to help with the short term situation. To get a Pinto or McTavish would require trading some of the Hawk prospects we all want to keep. Rebuilding teams in the cap era don't trade quality young players for aging overpaid veterans. No way would Hall or Murphy get a guy like Pinto or McTavish, they'd have to throw in Torontos 1st, maybe another pick, and Kaiser, or Phillips. Considering both guys aren't reliable with their health if they can make a trade now it should be done. And Donato might get a good return because he's 28 and leading the team in scoring but I wouldn't trade him. He should get a 3-5yr deal. That's the type of veteran you want for the rebuild.

TT with quite the demotion from line 1 to share with Anderson on the 3rd line. i got a hunch the coach was pissed off at him for "failure to shoot the puck". at least twice he was in a glorious position to shoot and deferred, which resulted in zilch.

If they never sat Bertuzzi for his lackadaisical play they’re not about to embarrass another of the big signings. I think they’re fumbling around looking for chemistry to get Bedard going. These lines might not be the ones that line up for the next game.

Hearing that the leaves and Hawks have had talks about Robertson. Not sure what the other piece(s) are or would be. I’d have to think a Dman is on the move at some point soon. Martinez should be back within a week or so. Plus Levshunov is back in Rockford. There’s just not enough room for everyone.
For the leaves they have Hakinpaa and Dewar about to finish their “conditioning stint”. So they have to make a move soon. Rumor has it that there was discussions in camp. So we’ll see soon enough if something happens here soon. I could see the Hawks trading Donato for Robertson. And maybe even something else. Maybe Phillips too. Hawks retain salary and get a 2nd rounder. We will see!!!

that’s just not a good deal for Chicago unless they want Brodie back I just dont see them making moves to get another 5'9 guy aye. we got enough lady byng candidates. if donato and robertson are the main trade pieces...good lord. robertson's best year he got 14g in 56 games. donato's halfway there already in 11 games. and donato's just entering his prime. robertson has also played 11 this season with 1g and 0a averaging just 26 seconds less ice time/game than donato. hard no from me as well.

I'm not saying I'd make that trade either, but I might if Robertson was a bigger winger. It's fun rooting' for guys like Donato and Lafferty but Donato'll be 31 when most of the kids should be ready,Robinson is only 23 and 14/27 in 56gms could be a stepping-stone season. Size is the issue in this instance but there'll be other young players available and the team should concentrate on acquiring young players.......can't be the oldest rebuilding team in history forever.
Wasn't Dickinson the guy we were rooting for last year after his outlier season?

It's possible that the injuries might finally have caught up to AA. He looks far less explosive than he was last year, and without that game breaking speed, he might be done.
If so, Robertson would be an adequate short term plug to fill that hole temporarily. To my mind, you offer Joey Anderson and a late pick and see if Toronto bites. They might take Anderson and try to bury him in the AHL.
Otherwise, you wait. The Leafs likely will have to waive the player at some point. There's likely no trade market out there for this type of player. This might be their only offer.

I’m not saying they should do this. It is a rumour and my thinking is maybe they can get a decent player for a song?
With Toronta’s cap issues and players coming back. There’s a chance he could be had for less than what I proposed. I’m not even sold on the player. But he has shown some good potential in some of the games I seen. And let’s be realistic. It’s not like he’s gotten the best shot there.
However, I’d like to see some trades for some younger players that are NHL ready or playing!!!

I suspect he eventually will be waived, and if so, Davidson would be wise to make a claim.
The Hawks did well the last time they plucked a similar type Leaf from the waiver wire: Steve Sullivan.

I like Anderson, but someone will have to go for any forward addition. Not to mention that there’s just too many dmen. When Martinez comes back in the next week or so, how much playing time would Phillips, Kaiser or Allan get down there? Levshunov is now back. So a trade will have to be coming soon. Unless Martinez is out much longer than they’ve said. But he is back on the ice. So something has gotta give here!!!

I don't see the attraction for Robertson. He seems like just a 5'9" winger who isn't exceptional at anything. If the idea is to plug in a guy for injury and somehow Anderson isn't an option (?) - I'd rather call up Guttman from Rockford who is an inch taller than Robertson, plays a responsible 2-way game, can win faceoffs and has good offensive instincts.

I'm not terribly excited about the player either. He's more likely to be a Brandon Pirri/Vinny Hinostroza than a Steve Sullivan. But as I wrote above, I suspect AA might be done. If so, the team could add one more skilled offense first player for the short term. I'd like to see Frank Nazer remain in Rockford the entire year. The team does need to get younger and faster, and Robertson is only 23 and has shown legit NHL tools. I'd offer a surplus piece such as 26 year old Joey Anderson or perhaps Guttman and throw in a sixth or seventh round pick if it is necessary to get a deal done. Should the Leafs balk at that offer (which is likely), the best course of action is to wait. Robertson (or someone similar) likely will be put on waivers in the coming weeks. The truth is that these types of players are not difficult to find in any given year. I don't understand why the Hawks have been wasting draft picks accumulating them year after year. At most, a good team typically has two or three max in their top nine.

His 14gls and 27pts average out to 20/40 if he sees 80gms and that was with only 11:41 of average TOI,his +4 shows he did no damage defensively too IMO. I don't see the player as a big priority due to his size but adding young players has to be a big priority and soon. I'd like to hang onto Donato too but if we could throw-in one of the young D-men who will NOT get a chance here, eat a bit of salary and add a 2nd as you suggested,I think I take the shot. Donato's off to an outstanding start but the 28yro has averaged 16gls and 34pts if he sees 80gms,which he hasn't so far in his career. I'd prefer moving another journeyman but selling high is often advantageous, what are the chances Dickinson repeats his outlier season from last year? If the FO considers Donato's competitiveness more important to the team than this particular young player,I'm okay with that. It does sound like Robertson could be acquired w/o losing Donato though but adding another 2nd to the mountain of picks the team still has could be a valuable trade piece down the road........or we could keep it and rebuild forever.

The FO has to weigh Donato's value to a team seeking respecability this year vs his value toward acquiring a younger player who could help the team for many years......let's hope their scale's working.

Some of us wanted to trade down and take Cozens, if he's available KD should make an offer. He's a big 2C the Hawks need. NHLtraderumors on X is reporting the Hawks are targeting Cozens.
