Nazar also had an assist and was the first star in a 4-3 win.
Weeks stopped 27 of 30
Slaggert had 2 assists
Rolston scored and was the 3rd star, Marcel² with the primary assist, fight and he was +2
Del Mastro with the GWG

I agree; it's good to see Nazar get a goal right off. It was good to see Rolston score; he needs to do more of that this season after only 10 last season. It was nice to see Nazar as 1st star, and Rolston as 3rd star; hopefully it will give them a boost, even if is preseason.
Marcel Marcel certainly started off with a bang, getting 2/3rds of a Gordie Howe hat trick. It's good to Slaggert get 2 a's. Maybe he'll put up some offense after his offense really picked up last season at ND.

Hopefully these kids run with it. I feel there’ll be a lot of injuries with this Hawks team. My guess is the usual suspects Murphy, AA. I don’t think Murphy lasts the year. I honestly think he may be done. He looks like a warrior on his last lace. I think we’ll be lucky if he gets 10 games without being injured. AA probably wants time off…. Again. It is what it is. He is who he is!!!

We have to really hope the Hogs are a top team. If they suck, then gotta think that’s not the best sign. Idoesnt mean the rebuild is a failure. But with almost all the top end picks there except Bedard and most 2024 picks. They better show something. Or they’ll be there again next season.
I’m not against them being there. That’s what it’s for. My worry is there’s just too many there, and there’s only one puck. For example, if Levshunov is an offensive dman, how do they give him the chance to be pp qb while sitting KK? This is why I think there has to be a bigger plan. I have to believe KK will be there for a limited time. He will be the pp qb for a month or 2. Get called back up. Then Levshunov can take over the pp qb. He is raw at this point and I’m not sure he should start off with that much responsibility. So I have to think the plan is in place. Whether that’s Kaiser being sent back down or injury. I think Kaiser is just a placeholder at this point. Not saying he can’t make it, but I think they’ll swap him out for kk. Plus if Kaiser doesn’t run with this opportunity, I think he’s done with the org. He’s 22 and will need a shot somewhere else!!!

Korch looked like congealed buttsweat against Minny. Granted, so did everyone else, but he looked disengaged. Sending him down should be a wake-up call, especially with guys like Leshie nipping at his heels for a potential roster slot. Then you give it some time until one of our D-vets gets injured, then send up whoever's looking the best. If that won't motivate guys like Korch, then they shouldn't be here. Ditto with the FWDs. The last thing we should be doing is guaranteeing a roster slot. No one's lot should be safe at this point.

There was a shot of KK skating back to the bench after Minny scored a goal and his body language and facial expression cried out he was totally crushed like he knew he hurt his chances to stay up with the Hawks. And while that was true, he looked defeated instead of defiant. Confidence plays such a huge role with many players but some players (like Reichel and KK) it's a huge boulder on their shoulders. Hopefully Rockford is the tonic for KK to get his confidence back for good.

Hopefully Rockford is the tonic for KK to get his confidence back for good. We do hear a lot about the mental aspect. This may be off base but I'd think when a player has confidence in himself, or starts to gain confidence as he develops when he's out on the ice, it helps his natural abilities come through. Confidence and the mental side is true in any sport. Remember Yogi Berra said "Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical."

I don't care as much about how many wins either gets this season, but certainly it seems like Rockford should be winning more games over the next few years. as far as the young guys go, KK and Dewey need a lot of marinating still. KK spends the majority of the season in the Rock as the top guy and Dewey gets to spend the season learning to be a pro and getting stronger. next season, KK (hopefully) graduates to the League in a similar manner as Pickle last season and Dewey spends next season as the top guy in Rockford. I have to believe this is the thought process.

Since Nazar will be the most skilled F for Rockford, and one of the Hawks top prospects, I got to wondering who his two linemates might be when the regular season starts the 12th. I'm assuming he will center the top line?
With only two preseason games, and the second one being tonight, it doesn't seem like Sorensen has time to do very much experimenting with lines.
Since Nazar only has a little more than one year of college, I had thought the coaches might want him paired with an AHL vet on one side, and maybe a prospect on the other. He had Seney and Slaggert when he scored his goal; could that be a regular season pairing? An "all prospect line" would be mean the whole top line would be 20-22 yrs. old.
It will also be interesting to see what lines the other young prospects that are right out of juniors are put on.

Kind of like I said a few months ago, I'm not too concerned about wins/loses this year.
I want to see major strides by the new kids, that includes Bedard. No passes for anyone.

True enough, but it all coincides. I think the coaches are a big part of this as well. I hope they’re under microscope too.

Do you think it helped his confidence that heard from management all year that if they could send him to the Rock they would? How do you think that made him feel as a 19 year old. Then your coach says because of injuries they could not send you back to JRs either. Boy you can tell this is everybody's first rodeo.

I don't understand why most of the roster was Indy players tonight, especially considering they don't play till Oct 12th.
Korchinski and Crevier could've played.

When you look at the IceHog's lineups for the two preseason games, there were 10 prospects in the first game and only 5 in the second game. Maybe I'm looking at things wrong but I might have thought Sorensen and the coaches would want to get a little more of a look at the young prospects, especially the newest ones. I'd think they know already what the AHL vets can do. Of the new guys, Nazar, Savoie and Slaggert all sat out the second game. Practices can't replicate actual games but upcoming practices will have to be where they determine the line combos and D pairings.

I'd assume a 19yro who played an entire season, averaged 19:37 minutes of TOI and was never scratched or demoted expected every chance to make the roster........he apparently had no chance. They say "everybody has to earn their spot",but how does a guy earn his spot when he's an early camp casualty? Didn't KK earn at least a 10-15 game shot to make the team? Will LR demand all the vets earn their spots? Did Smegma and Tinordi earn theirs' last year? Did the 19yro really make more than the average rookie mistakes last year? Maybe "a year in Rockford won't hurt",but will it help as much as another year of NHL experience? Is he too small to handle the rigors of the league? Did he look over-matched in the NHL? IMO......the answer is no to these questions.

4 players were sent to Indy and 7 were released from their tryouts.
They're now at 25 players, the season starts at home Oct 12th.

I agree, but I also think there are aspects about Korch's defensive game that wouldn't hurt being refined in Rockford, especially if Rockford is the reason for Vlassic's D-game. Up here he's either with Murphy, who now makes Old Rosival look like a prime Brian Campbell, or Seth Jones who is mediocre on D. Neither of which are currently guys who can help a young D-mam grow into the role. Maybe the less intense game, more icetime, and playing in all situations do him justice for his development.

His answer was interesting the usual about being prepared but then said be ready to make hockey plays not just bank it off the glass and out. Maybe you let Kor work on his hockey plays and not worry about the outcome up here there was a lot of just get it out.

I thought Guttman, who had a great run last year to help Rockford get to the playoffs, might have had a legit shot as a smallish type of TJ clone but after all the signings there wasn’t a spot for him. I guess if he wants to keep playing his future will look like Seney’s now, veteran AHL guy to mentor the youngsters.
