The only thing I see wrong right now. Is that in order to fill the void on the forth line too many were brought on board, and too many of them are being kept in the lineup. Dach Saad and Kane are and will be a crazy good line.
The line of Toews,Kubalik and Drake are the best overall line on the team. There's no opposition assignment they can't handle and all score when the opportunity is there.
The third line leaves me wanting. The biggest question is would it be better to move Strome to his natural position and try Nylander on his right wing? Would that help the Cat. I think the Cat is getting his chances he needs to convert and that is on the Cat.
I think the fourth line would be better. Carpenter Kampf and Smith. To be utilized as a shutdown line.
The team is playing well to to move too many would likely spell disaster. Who knows tremendous success. They look just good right now, they do however I think need a push to be the best.
I think they will make the playoffs with what they have, but they need to be running on all cylinders. If Stan makes a trade it will need to be an absolute win as not to upset the fragile chemistry I spoke of.

Eight shots last night, most were legit scoring chances, a couple of those were high danger. He’s getting his chances. like many slumping scorers across the last century have said....you worry when you're not getting your chances. That may be true, but right now Debrincat couldn't even score in a women's prison with a handful of pardons. Whatever changes between the last 2 seasons and this one, he needs to fix.

I understand why Kampf was put in with Dcat and Strome, they need a defensive forward in that line. But after the Coyotes and now the Wild game, Kampf isn't ideal with them. They need a defensive forward who actually knows what to do with the puck and where to be when theyre in the O-zone. Maybe try Carpenter with them (or trade for one). Nylander will only spells disaster as no one will be playing defense

If he's indeed injured t's not like what little he's bringing at this moment in time will be sorely missed. If what's nagging him is a lingering injury then heal, and come back stronger.

Exactly, but he seems stubborn like Seabs and takes a lot of abuse. If he's banged up, let him rest. It's hard watching him miss opportunities and turning the puck over.

Debrincat played a very soft game tonight against Winnipeg.
This was a must win, and this player did not demonstrate the intensity required. I am getting worried. Is he really core material?
He has been terrible for some time now, floating around the perimeter, handling pucks like they were hand grenades, constantly bailing on plays to avoid a hit. The coaching staff has taken note. Both Debrincat and Strome barely played in the third period.

At the time, I thought the contract was way too generous. I am always suspicious of players who produce big scoring numbers on weak teams.
D-cat has never seen playoff intensity hockey. Will he be able to deliver when it matters? Let's hope so, because the team needs him to. So far, I am not seeing it.

But he’s been placed with bottom pairing guys and some pp time. I’m hoping his rhythm is just off. I still think he’s a solid player because he has been at every level so far. I think once the Hawks change the coach and the GM, I think the philosophy here will be different and he’ll get going again. We don’t know what the coach is asking of him. There’s a very good chance that he’s asking him to be a more defensive minded player, and not to worry about the goals. And what the coach has created is a 6 million dollar defensive minded player. One thing is for sure, the kid doesn’t look very happy out there!!!

Saad started at the top line, dropped to the 2nd line then the 3rd line. But now he is back up since he's worked hard. No different when Q was here. You play poorly your minutes get cut.

We had two pretty good lines coming into the season. Then those lines were non existent. Strome and Dcat worked all summer with Kane and probably thought they’d play together at some point. I’ve seen Dcat on the 3rd and 4th lines to start the season. He just hasn’t been able to get any continuity going. We also have to remember that Dcat is only in his 3rd year. He’s not a grizzled vet. I agree with MVR that if he’s not scoring, he’s pretty much ineffective. I hope he can turn a corner here, but it’s probably gonna take more than just him, coach has to have faith in him too!!!

At this point I think the message the coaching staff needs to send is that any player on the PP who turns the puck over leading to an odd-man rush gets the business-end of a cattle prod secreted onto their prostate.
Debrincat, in spite of being more worthless than a cock-flavored lollipop last game (and the bulk of the season) is not the only one doing this.
While the players themselves deserve a good share of the blame, I blame coaching. After all it's their job to ensure the players play a full 60, and not the 20 that they have since the all-star break.

If he’s uninspired playing for a team scrambling to make the playoffs what’s that say about him? Yet somehow when they show him on the bench he’s always grinning. Doesn’t seem all that concerned to me. He’s third among forwards in TOI, second in shots yet he has four even strength goals. He’s probably too tenured to bench but I’d certainly take him off the PP to send a message. PP is so ridiculously bad right now you wouldn’t lose anything anyways. This seems like Debrincat’s first slump since peewee so maybe he is just as stunned about it as the rest of us.

He wasn't too bad before his injury but his numbers were down IMO due to D-cats struggles. Also with Dach emerging and being a center kind of pushs Strome to a wing which I don't think he can handle just yet. Strome and D-cat have chemistry when they're clicking. We have seen that last season so we didn't need to always have Kaner on both top lines. Eventually we're going to wear Kaner down.

To be fair, though, since the all-star break who isn't uninspired though--you know, aside from Kubalik? Yeah, Debrincat's play since last season has crashed harder than Paramount's stock after the release of "Kazaam", and that's bad...but he's not the only one who's looked like congealed buttsweat out there. I do agree though, barring my cattle-prod suggestion, I think the best thing that could happen to the team is start running it like a meritocracy. It doesn't matter who you are, what you make, what your tenure is, how much hardware you've collected, or whether or not you wear a letter. If you start playing like ass you're removed from the choice assignments in favor of someone doing it better. Ergo, I agree with you--get Debrincat off of the PP.

Dave Winfield was known in some parts as Mr. May. Winfield had replaced the great Reggie Jackson (Mr. October) in New York and never really did get the job done in the big games.
I see Debrincat with the new contract choking on the pressure. If Debrincat was playing like he did last year, this team easily would be in the playoffs right now. To this point, he does not seem capable of rising up to the challenge.
Ken Dryden used to talk about the difference between playoff warriors (ie Billy Smith, Bernie Parent, Patrick Roy etc) and superstars playing on bottom feeders (Chico Resch, Mike Palmateer, Rogie Vachon). You can't just substitute one type for the other and expect similar results. Guys like Resch can carry a bottom feeder and make the unbelievable highlight-reel saves, but they often can't handle the pressure of the big games. Playoff warriors can raise their intensity for big games but get disillusioned easily and can't remain focussed when their team is losing.
Those who have known me for awhile might recall that I am quick to excuse (and defend) lazy play from guys like Byfuglien and Bickell (and Kane, Seabrook, Toews and Keith) during regular season play because I recognized they could raise the level of their play when it matters (a rare precious thing). I have problems, however, with chokers.
Sure, it is far too early to make a final judgement here, but Debrincat might be the type who plays well for a loser, but folds the tent and turtles when the games matter.

The pussy got his money contract now he'll disappear for a few years. I would see them trade him but the way he's playing you won't get a lot for him. Edit: this kid has to become a Theo Fluery or something similar then he may score 50.

not sure d-cat's "fine" or not. just posting this tweet for the numbers in it. What the number tell me is that he's deferring more on the assists, and he needs to stop because he himself needs to get back to finishing, and his aim is so bad he leaves puddles around every toilet and urinal he visits. Theoretically, those are correctable. In practice? Who knows. The drive of every player on the ice is in question at this point and the coaching staff is all but useless. I wouldn't mind him sitting a game...or at least being pulled from the PP until he gets his head and ass wired together, but I think the chances of that are slim. I also don't know if this is a long-term issue or not. It's possible he's hit his plateau or this year is an anomaly--we just don't know at this point.

Consistency, preparation, team mindset and attitude, all falls into coaches and management's responsibilities.
As for dcat and all the talk of getting rid of him, that's just BS. he just turned 22. id like to see a different coach here before seeing him in a different team.

On one hand Debrincat might be like Hossa in 2016, Crawford in 2012, or Keith in 2018--horrible year only for him to completely turn it around the following year. On the other hand, he could be Sergei Samsonov. He could have hit a brick wall and just can't move beyond what he is. We just don't know at this point--it's way to early to tell. As for the rest, part of it is the coaches...part of it is the players themselves. Debrincat passing the puck to the opposition is on Debrincat. As a player with 2.5 season under his belt he should know better. Conversely JC putting him right back on the powerplay to make the same bloody mistake again is on JC.

D-Cat's stuck his nose into places others haven't and he's had to fight bigger player and stick up for himself @5'9" 165lbs because he still doesn't have the protection other goal scorers have. Disappointing year yes but he's no pussy. Maybe those 50 goal seasons in the 'O' were a smokescreen and maybe those 69 goals in his first two NHL seasons were an aberration and he'll "disappear" now and maybe not. His poor puck handling and terrible shot accuracy is on him and him alone but I still see no reason he and Strome were separated right off the bat after such a great year together last year...…..WITHOUT Kane and Strome hasn't fared much better this year if at all. As bad as things have been,D-Cat's still 3rd in team scoring and the same two players that finished above him last year are above him this year and both veterans have seen their career best offensive production fall off also.....there are reasons when all of your best offensive players regress. Would D-Cat have to become chemically dependent like Fluery too?

The kid was a big part of the team's improved second half last year when the they made a bit of a push,12,19 and 88 had 120 goals between em…...the rest of the team choked. There's only a handful of guys on the team who've seen PO action, how do we know how any of those who haven't would handle it when things get tough out there?

^ this is where I put most of the blame for this season. the roster has so much potential and you can see a glimpse of it once in a while.
^ how often does that happen? Is passing the puck to the opposition only a Dcat thing and other players in the team or the league don't do this?
regardless of who he might become, Samsonov or Theo Fleury (from doogiew above). I want to see him become either one in a Hawks sweater.

As egregious as Debrincat's play last game was? It doesn't happen often--but it happens. Keith was notorious for it in 2011...but not in most of his other seasons. In both cases, both at the time should have known better and both should have been pulled out of that role on the next shift instead of sent back out there to fail yet again. What I think you're missing about my post is that I don't think Debrincat should be 100% gone...but irrespective of status of the player continuing to put them in situations that they are failing at is dumb. If a center on a team is losing d-zone draws, then the coach would be dumb as a crate of anvils if they continued to put them in that position. Icing? Can't be helped. But if Yannik Perrault himself was having a rough night at the dot you don't continuously put him there simply because he's a great faceoff man. If it's not his night it's not his night. Ditto with Debrincat. If he's coughing up the puck and putting out unforced turnovers on the powerplay? You keep him on the bench the next one. Maybe you put him out subsequently and if he's still screwing the pooch you keep him off the rest of the night. Otherwise it's an exercise in futility like Wile E. Coyote.
