Dcat will be just fine, he had to endure the loss of his centermen that he had built chemistry with the past season, he has to endure the stupidity of a useless coach who simply looks lost behind the bench, he had to endure a fresh rookie in Dach at times, he had to endure a useless PP. The kid has a tremendous skillset, a nice shot, can be very dangerous if complemented with the right players. This situation like many around the team are based on poor coaching and a bad GM not bringing in the right talent on this team for players like the Cat to succeed. I've been a staunch supporter of our talented, young sniper myself but his drop off in accuracy 18%-8% was on him a bit and his all around play wasn't what it was the year before either but THIS is where a HC comes in! I still believe most HC's would do everything to get their talented and proven, young sniper goin' on a line with either K or T......since when do you keep a proven goal scorer away from your best two setup guys? Kubalik had a stellar rookie season and worked hard for every goal he potted but the fact remains.....he potted 6 before joining JT's line in early December. About the same time D-Cat was skatin' with Carpenter,Nonlander and other bottom six linemates. I know I'm beating a decomposing carcass of a horse at this point but how does any HC breakup K&T after career highs together and Strome and D-cat after a total breakout season the year before? These four forwards accomplished that with unheralded third wheels like Sikurak and Perlini for long stretches too...….add Saad and Kubalik to those four and any competent HC should be able to put two good lines together IMO. As far as I'm concerned, keeping K&T and S&D together was a gimmie after what we saw last year but even gimmies are missed from time to time.

Bob, this comes down to coaching and the lack of vision from JC to see who fits with who and what players excel with certain team mates more than others. I am not going to comment on Carpenter and or Nylander, but it was very evident there was zero chemistry with them and the Cat. When a player achieves multiple 30 goal season it’s no fluke, the talent has to be there. Yes, I agree some of the onus falls on Dcat, accuracy issues and at times laziness, but a good coach with NHL experience would rectify that situation in a hurry and get your goal scorer going, whatever it takes.

IMO,K&T weren't happy with being called out publicly by their owner and went out and had their best seasons of their storied careers and did so with a sometime worthless and often revolving door on their off wing. S&D may have had a different motivation but basically the same result....career seasons with a subpar linemate most of the time. Am I out of line expecting an even better result for the two combos if kept together with a more capable linemate with each? This quest for so called balanced scoring didn't result in balanced scoring, all it resulted in was 59 fewer goals and almost 100 fewer points from the four forwards...…..GREAT JOB!

Firstly I seldom pick on your post it was just the last one on the same subject. I know you mentioned his shooting percentage. Well welcome to the NHL Mr. Debrincat. You can't blame shot percentage on a coach it doesn't work. You can't solely blame line mates either. McDavid and Draisaitl are explosive together. They were separated to balance scoring. Guess what they continued to excel with their line mates. If you're a good player you make the players around you better not the other way around. DCat is responsible for his numbers he was shy 12 games this season and would likely have gotten to at least a respectable 20 goals. As well so no one thinks I'm picking on the Cat. Goalies and defense have his number as they know where he likes to shoot and score from. Which is likely why the shot percentage was so much lower. Putting him with any player combination isn't going to make a huge difference with the exception of maybe Kane the only player on the team that can truly make his line mates better. Every player on the top two lines this season earned their spot in my opinion, especially Kubalik say what you like for a new player at 24 in the NHL he had to work. It's usually a sophomore slump that affects young players the Cat is simply a year late. His numbers weren't what many expected but 20 goals isn't bad and with luck he'll rebound without Strome who I feel the Cat was propping up more so than the other way around. Part of the blame can be put on a coach but it's the player who dictates his worth.

What did Carpenter do to earn a 2LC spot over Strome? What did Nolander do to EARN a spot on a top line over D-Cat. Kubalik had 6 goals before joining JT in early Dec.....that's just a fact. I'm at a point where I really don't give a shit what they do anymore. Get rid of Strome and D-Cat if our clueless HC won't use em properly and just get more UFA Eoros……..Scotty loves Euros.

I know we'll hope the best, but this guy is no more likely to see a top line initially than Kubalik was. I see this guy more bottom six than top. We'll see I guess but Stan goes out and gets these guys every season. Lucky for him a few have panned out.

Yeah he'll have to earn a spot on the top line like Kubalik did, another bottom 6 forward over 6' who can skate and play a 2way game, nothing wrong with that. Plus he was 21 when signed, he's not in his mid 20's like Panarin and Kubalik, those guys weren't lighting it up playing in the elite leagues at 21. Most youngs guys don't because they give the vets more ice time. If he starts in Rockford that's not a bad thing, but he'll be 22 in July so he'll have an edge over younger prospects like Entwistle and Kurashev. We'll see how he does in North America.

It’s been said that Chalupa understands he’s to start in Rockford. If he works his way up, great! This is probably just a depth signing. Kinda like Wedin. At some point most of the Euros wont stay long here. They’re better off back home. I think they’d be better off waiting till they were 24/25. They can develop over there and come here when primed. Just like Panera did. That’s the best way for them. Their leagues over there are similar to the AHL, which is great for them. Development is huge, and the Hawks haven’t been great at all at developing kids. Let’s hope they start now!!!

It's sucks Bowman is still here but we'll see if it was his fault they were bad at developing kids. Maybe John forced him to trade away guys they 'developed', either way it's frustrating seeing guys traded when it looked like they were ready to make the jump. So yeah, let's hope they start now and build from within but I also have no problem signing Euro players, low risk high reward.

Kubalik was comin' off 62 goals in the two seasons prior to LA making this deal if I'm reading his stat line correctly......is there any wonder the Kings find themselves where they are. How LA didn't sign him to a two year, two way deal and get a look see is beyond me,there is absolutely nothing to lose in doing so and a lot to lose in not doing so. Very good trade by SB and possibly the only one last summer,an even worse trade by LA!

Thought bumping this 7 1/2 month old thread in tribute to our young, elite forward was over due.......lotta INTERESTING things said about the Cat in these four pages but water under the bridge now.
The kid skated unto OHL ice @16 and potted 51 even though he was the smallest kid on the team and has dominated ever since with the exception of a year on a checking line and that's a fact!
In this thread,I stated D-Cat would be good for 30-40 if he played with Kane....make that 40-50 and I also said we could be losing a 500 career goal scorer if traded as suggested. I haven't gotten a lotta shit right lately but D-Cat has proven me 100% right in this instance and I look for MORE to be honest......the kid turned 23 a week before Christmas!

He's scoring 0.67 goals/game, only behind Mathews, I think. Translates to about 55 goals in a full season. It would be nice to have a 50 goal scorer on the Hawks. I imagine that the last person to score 50+ was Roenick.

I didn't like the way he played last season, but was never concerned about his scoring ability. I just didn't think he was much of a puck handler and was piss poor on the d end....
he has proven me wrong on both accounts this season and I am quite happy to admit it! his game has taken a big step forward this year and if he keeps it up, he will surely look like a steal @ 6.4 per for the next two seasons!

Nice to see Debrincat match his goal total from last season in 38 less games and he got his 19th goal in the next game.
His shooting percentage in over 18% this season, same as his 41 goal season.

The Cat has not disappointing in any way. I'm very happy to see how his game has become so well rounded. Hopefully his hustle and effort rubs of on teammates like Hoss and Toews.

Does anybody smile more than this kid,on and off the ice? He caught a little flack for it but the tough, little fucker smiled through a tough season last year too because he knew who he was and he enjoys playing hockey as much as a kid can. His improvement this year comes from two things IMO,well maybe three...... #1)I see a total dedication to the game, improvements in skating(he's faster than ever),in strenth(he's stronger on the puck than ever)and in stickhandling and passing too don't happen unless the offseason work is put in. #2)Playing and training with Patrick Kane,he's not only taking HUGE advantage of those sweet dishes,he seems to be soaking up knowledge like a sponge so far with Kaner. His offensive numbers this year are no fluke either, they're just the normal evolution of a young, elite player and are par for the course with the exception of one season so far throughout his entire career......junior and pro. #3)That one season. Water under the bridge now but skating on a checking line is still hard for me to grasp but let's hope it helped his all around game to be fair......still hard to grasp.

Like I had said several times last year, the Cat was just pressing too hard last year, IMO. This year he looks so much more relaxed and comfortable and confident in his play. He makes a mistake but quickly over comes it where as last season he seemed to dwell on it. That's a big sign of maturity in his hockey IQ. And he got the smile was left from Panarin being on Kaners line.

This is why I think it's hard to evaluate any player coming into the league until you see how well they rebound from a slump. That being said I think Debrincat did what he should have and then some--he's over a PPG right now and leads the team in goals. Plus, he's still got the snarl. Solidly one of the best players on the team this this season.

His team best +10 is due to the recommitment he's shown all year, his offensive numbers have a lot to do with being on a line with Kane but his improvement in every other area is because he's faster and stronger than he's been in the past.

Passing is more than the ability to put it on the 'tape',it's also knowing when to attempt that pass and when not to. He sees plenty of Kane's sweet dishes without a doubt but he's also shown the improved ability to make plays on his own. I wouldn't mind seeing him get some PK time the way he's played defensively this year,it would give the team a dangerous short handed threat and if he's gonna be out there when the opposition pulls their tender at the end of games, some PK time would prepare him better for it.

Most importantly he's burying the feeds from Kane. Kane is probably one of the best set-up men in the league (if not the best), but someone not named Kane has to beat the goalie--when Kane is setting up and not scoring, of course . Debrincat is doing this. Debrincat did everything right that he needed to vs. last season. No way anyone should be disappointed with the results. It's what you want to see. That actually sounds like a good idea, the D cat on pk, would also have opposing team having to possibly think about it, D cat gets a short handed break away, it's a great possibility he's going to score
