I e been lucky to have seen rush half a dozen times. Back from the 90s on Test for Echo all the way till the end. R40 tour etc. Just amazing musicians they are. Losing Neal and even Eddie Van Halen in the same year crushed my spirit. Two of my hero’s growing up. But Rush never ever disappointed!!! Rush is one of those bands that I'll always be pissed I never went to see live, despite multiple chances... I've always loved their music, I just always wished Lee stuck with bass and let someone else sing. I've always hated his voice..... but I'll still listen cuz they crush it musically. speaking of which, I watched this live and laughed for the majority of it...

I wish going to post the same thing. With all the bands I've seen over the years, it really sucks that I never saw them live. I've liked them since high school.

I saw them several times in the earlier years. I was a fan right from the first album with Rutsey. My brother (bass player) and I drove the neighbors crazy playing Working Man and Finding My Way in my mothers basement. Around the Presto album I started to lose them. Great to see them in the HOF and watching Geddy replace Chris Squire on bass when Yes played Roundabout when those guys were inducted.

There was a time, and let’s remember, I was a young boy in the 80s. I couldn’t stand Rush. All my buddies loved Motley Crüe and a lot of hair bands. I loved them too. But I always kept listening to heavier and heavier stuff. Somehow Rush was always there as I got older. Even before I played music there was something that struck a chord. Even when Geddy went nuts with the massive amount of keyboards, I still loved it and love it even more as I get older. I loved Marathon, Mystic Rythyms, Subdivisions, Red Sector A. Just fantastically written songs and amazing musicianship. One thing I’d love to see is Rush tour with drummers that Neal is their hero. I think it’d be cool if they played with some of these next generation drummers on a tour that pays homage to Neal. I think that’d be sooooo cool to see. Seeing guys like Danny Carey, even Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters played with Geddy and Alex in Toronta a few years back and they jammed YYZ with him at a Foo’s show. They could do different cities and different drummers. Nothing to long or epic. Maybe like a 10’city tour and 10 different drummers and raise awareness for brain cancer to honour Neal!!!

When you hear them jam YYZ or La Villa Strangiato live. Getty’s bass drives right through you. Can’t even explain how awesome they sound live. Towards the end, like the last few tours, they always had 2 sets. They played for about 3 hours. They had movies to start the show, and for the intermission. They were pretty funny, and Geddy and Alex starred in them. The did a parody with the guys from “Love you man” and the old “Slapa da bass” line came out. It was a cool little flick. But they were probably my favourite band I’ve ever seen. I missed out on Van Halen. But they didn’t tour too much when I was old enough to see them!!!

Now Charlie Watts dies. 80 years old. Thought the Stones would live forever. RiP Charlie. What a life he must of lived!!! what a drag. i guess nobody lives forever (except keith richards most likely). charlie was the oldest member at 80 years and 84 days. mick's 78 years and 30 days, keith richards is 77 years and 250 days and ron wood is a sprightly 74 years and 85 days. on a side note, an old favorite of mine....a texas gal named nanci griffith passed away a few days ago (friday the 13th) at 68. she was a country folk style singer/songwriter. an old g/f turned me on to her. an artist like her normally wouldn't be the type of musician i'd follow...especially in my early 30's, but something about her i liked. i guess mostly the stories she told thru her music. her voice might be described by some as "high and whiney" but i loved her sound and you can't please everyone i guess. i posted this a few days back, then deleted it shortly after because i doubt if many (or any) here have even heard of her. i was quite surprised to learn that she had been on david letterman 18 times. just curious. anyone else here a fan? tbh, i'll be quite surprised if there is. i'll admit that she isn't for everyone.

just stumbled upon the fact that one of my favorite (band) albums was released 50 years ago this month.
seen them many times in edmonton in the early 80's, but that was a foggy period in my life.
it's funny....jumping back to the 70's, my next oldest brother's rag tag collection of (mostly stolen i'm sure) cassettes seemed to form my main musical interests to this day.

Was going through some old vinyl LP's today and played this one. Classic to me. Put your headphones on. George Harrison's slide guitar is amazing and Alvin Lee's solo is outstanding.

This was indeed excellent! I had never heard this before despite listening to quite a bit of Ten Years After years ago. Alvin Lee's "Goin' Home" used to be a favorite.

It was fifty three years ago today.......
The last ever live performance. For a band that spent less than a decade together and broke-up over 50 years ago, their historical legacy and body of work is untouchable.

I never liked them growing up, probably because my dad was a big Elvis and Beach Boys fan and didn't like Euro music, but I've grown to like them as I've gotten older and Get Back was a great series. Minus Yoko making those horrible noises on the mic 🙉

I’ve listened to Tool pretty much since the beginning. I used to really love them. Back in the late 90s early 2000s. Eanima is probably my fave. Lateralus is close behind. Undertow is good. But it’s just so different from the band that they became. I like it but it’s like Pink Floyd before Obscured by clouds. Just weird yet interesting music. Ten Thousand Days I used to listen to everyday when I’d swim. I listened to it for the whole summer and it pissed off a lot of people. I had a hard time getting into Fear Inoculum. So I listened to it tonight while swimming. Kids didn’t care for it, but fuck em, they don’t understand. Hahahaha. As a musician myself, I tend to lean towards musicians and not fake soulless dribble for the weakest minds. I listen to a lot of Metal. A lot of black metal, death metal etc. The musicianship is unreal. One of my fave albums is Dimmu Borgir’s live album with the Oslo Orchestra called Forces of the northern night. Just a sick display of musicianship. There’s some serious drumming in that band. Behemoth has unreal drumming too. A fellow that went by the name “Hellhammer” played for both bands for a bit. And if you google “Hellhammer drummer”, you’ll see what I mean. He’s the fastest I’ve ever seen. But thanks for posting, got me to listen to Tool for the last 2.5 hours!!! Liking them pretty much from the beginning isn't the late 90's early 2000s lol. I remember April 93 not long before my 16th birthday when I was on the bus to school and my friend told me to listen to his Discman and it was Sober, I was hooked and bought Undertow and Opiate not long after. He then skipped to track 69, the cry of the carrots 😆 The first Tool song I learned on the bass was Sober 🤘 But they didn't get Justin on bass till after Undertow and that's when their sound changed. I guess Paul left Tool because he wanted to play the guitar and not bass, not a good move on his part. AEnima is my favorite album as well, front to back it was a masterpiece and the fills were awesome. German cooking show on how to make hash brownies and Bill Hicks talking about a young man on acid realizing that life is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, not a fan of the crying baby though. When I turned 8 in 1985 my older brother got me Metallica Kill Em and that's when I fell in love with metal and dropped Corey Hart and Michael Jackson lol got into death metal for a few years in my late teens early 20's, mainly Cannibal Corpse and Deicide, mostly because of teammates cranking it before our hockey games but I quickly outgrew it. Amazing musicians but it was to jumbled and hard to hear how they were playing, especially on bass.

I had to look up Pet Sounds and I guess he did because I remember hearing most of those songs as a kid. Maybe he thought the Beatles were trying to sound like them so he disliked them, unfortunately I can't ask him. But it's also the whole Beatles invasion he didn't like, he was kinda stubborn lol I have a couple songs from Pet Sounds on my daily playlist, Wouldn't It Be Nice came one the other day, love it, especially the bop bops lol

And I appreciate that but I was born in 77 lol 9yrs after they broke up in 69. Born the same month Elvis died. Funny how music can take you back to certain times, like a Sunday with your Beatle hating gf, she must've been gifted in over ways lol like Yoko, John didn't love her for her musical abilities.

for the older crowd here most likely....but sometimes the greatest videos you've ever seen are the ones you stumble across blindly.
i thought he was just a run of the mill artist with a couple of hits.
was i wrong.
it's almost 2 hours long but i thought it was very enlightening because i never knew a thing about this guy.
edit : oh yeah. the link .... here it is.

Or maybe the sign of a good movie. Most likely a combo of both. reading the lyrics i was a little bit surprised to see there are only 5 different lines in the entire song. still great.

In honor of St. Patrick Day I thought I'd add an Irish group who I just saw live for the first time last week. They are Celtic Thunder, and they have been featured on PBS stations where I first saw them roughly a decade ago. The cast changes from time to time, currently touring with 4 guys. But they are fantastic. And I chose a song I think fits this group......a drinking song! Hope you enjoy it!
