I’m a fan of all genres of music. My biggest influence is metal. Why? I’ve played music my buddy hole life and it challenges me the most. I’m a fan of the band Muse. A big fan. They’re like the new age Rush. And Rush is probably my favourite band of all time. Matt Bellamy of Muse said that for their new album they had to learn how to be real musicians as they tried their hand at some metal. He’s a new age guitar hero. And when he says metal musicians are unreal, and it was a challenge for them to play, it’s saying something as they use very weird timings (like Rush), and stretch the imagination of musical capabilities. One of my closest friends, a brother to me. Is a producer and has worked with people most would kill to work with. He records some things that I do. I always record the heavier side of life with him. He is always amazed at the time changes, and mood swings that I can come up with. And I personally don’t think they’re that great. Just normal day in a metal guitar player. I know it’s not for everyone. However I would love for people to see the genius in all guitar playing, let alone metal. One band I can’t get enough of is Amon Amarth. If anyone cares. Listen to the musicianship in the the song Skoll and Hati. This band speaks of Viking tales and wars. The guitar playing is almost like Beethoven on meth. It has a classical tinge with mood swings. The vocals may not be for everyone. But the musicianship is unheard of. Drumming is unreal. They have about 30 songs that are like this that are unreal. The mood swings and time signature changes is what makes stuff like this unreal!!! youtu.be/uip6w_sXjAII feel the same way T. I played for many years in a bar band, and we also played at Arlington Park between races and on Wrigley field after batting practice. But the stuff we played was so boring to play. I love playing metal most of all as it provides a challenge and keep you on your toes. I love old Iron Maiden for guitar and bass fun. Maiden, Priest will keep ya paying attention. I always loved playing the Trooper. Great tune to warm up to. I’d have to say Judas Priest may be my all time favourites. So many great songs in such a massive catalogue. Rolling Stones are a favourite too. Many bands play rock n roll. One band is rock n roll. I have too many favourites to mention. Muse is something you always wished you came up with. But it’s good to see a few other metal heads here!!!

he was the lead singer of the scottish band for 45 years.
just wondering...was nazareth a popular band in the u.s.?
in the mid 70's, a nazareth 8 track was the go-to pick when me and my other underage buddies would cruise the backroads with a 6 pack (or a case if lucky) of warm stubbies. if i recall, "foreigner" was another popular pick. i can't recall any others, maybe that was all we had. : )

john lennon died 42 years ago today at age 40. he'd be 82 if he was still alive. for many it was one of those times in life you remember where you were when you heard the awful news.
also on this date, jim morrison was born 75 years ago. i wasn't the biggest doors fan but i thought this bit of trivia was interesting.

Has anyone listened to the new Ozzy album? I’m not the biggest fan of his last 20 years to be honest. But this album is amazing. He has a lot of great musicians play on it. Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Chad Smith, Zakk Wylde, Mike McCready, Toni Iommi. Robert Trujillo and more than likely the last recording ever from Taylor Hawkins. There’s even more that play on it too.
I have to say at 73 (when he recorded it) and in the beginning stages of Parkinson’s, it’s more than an amazing album. My only complaint about it is that he does most of his song writing with younger musicians and producers. These are the new age people that over produce and quantize everything. Quantizing is part of recording software where you can literally click a button and it makes the tract you recorded lineup perfectly in timing. When Ozzy was recording with Black Sabbath or even his early solo recording career. You made it as good as possible. And it was those subtle nuances that made the music more distinctive and original. There’s a reason why every “sounds the same”. I record music. One of my favourite people I’ve had the graces of calling a best friend is a professional producer. He’s done unimaginable things in his career. I wish I had the opportunity to do what he’s done. But we’ll talk for hours and record about a better way to do things.
For example. The industry standard for guitars now is to record at least 4 mono tracks per section. So an intro has 4 of its own. Verse with 4, bridge with 4, chorus etc. so you end up with about 24-28 different guitar tracks for a gawd dam song. I like to do two mono tracks, pan them left and right speaker. They become stereo. And you get all the subtle nuances of the guitar player. And it sounds much better in my view.
But that’s my rant of how things are done now. Just insane how technology and the “standards” are now. But Ozzy's de album is still solid. I highly recommend it!!!

I’ve seen him a few times at the Blues Fest in Windsor. Love his polka dot scheme! Very impressive nowadays when our grandparents are still rocking out!!!

idk....choosing between the 2, i suppose i'd follow the majority and pick "rumours" but the one that preceded it was a classic as well imho.. i'm sure there have been a few more commercially successful back to back albums released but for me these 2 top my list at least. edit: here's the first album, the songs are in the order it was in on the record. some call it "the white album" according to wiki. so many great songs on it. i saw fleetwood mac in edmonton in the early '80's, it's still the biggest concert i've ever seen. sadly, the mushrooms robbed my memory of most of it....but i do remember stevie singing "landslide". : ) i seem to recall meeting her backstage after the concert, but that was likely the mushrooms...

i'm 70 in less than 7 years. *shudder*
anyways...if you all want to pitch in buy me something special you can just hire this guy for my birthday. just these 2 songs so it shouldn't cost much.
maybe not doable because he'll be like 85 so if possible (and if in the near future technology allows) just teleport me to this concert in 2004. hopefully it's cheaper.
thanks in advance.
