So what an interesting twist in the draft drawing tonight. The #1 pick will go to one of the teams who loses in the qualifying round. So now how do teams approach the games? Do you want to win and and advance to win the cup? Or do you lose 3 games and have a high chance at getting the number 1 pick in the draft.
As a fan, do I want my team to win a couple of games and get eliminated, or just lose in the first round and get a shot at the #1?

i think of it as a win/win. if we lose against the oilers we have a 1 in 8 shot at the #1 pick. if we beat the oilers...well, we've beaten the oilers. : ) boy....if i was a wings or sens fan i'd be effn' choked today.

I obviously as a bowman detractor want to, for the rare moment, see the Hawks advance to the next round. The last thing I want to see is bowman getting the #1 pick and succeeding, thus continuing on any longer in the position he has so miserably failed in.
And since I've been following the Tallon and Q led Panthers, I wouldn't mind seeing them lose in the qualifying round and getting a shot at that #1.
So this draft for me has really twisted my typical thought process completely. But if all were to go to my way of thinking, Bowman would then get shown the door sooner, the Panthers get the #1 pick, and I'll have 2 teams to root for moving forward, as I would once again be able to enjoy fully following the Hawks again! My only dilemma would then occur with head to head competition between the Hawks and Panthers, especially if they met in the Stanley Cup Final!

idk.....stan was a lucky winner at last years draft lotto and an even luckier winner of a possible p/o spot this year. if he parlayed today's 6 1/4% chance into lafreniere that would be another horseshoe in stan's collection. (must be getting crowded in there) if rocky and young danny can't see past all of that then perhaps the g.m. position isn't the only trouble spot here.

I’d love Lafreniere, and I’d even say it with the Francophone accent..... every time. But Stan has been quite lucky. First and foremost he beat cancer. That’s the best of them all. But to take over a team that loaded and with that coach, that’s lucky. Plus he really has no history of playing the game. Anyways, he’s past his due date and it’s time we get rid of the smell out of the fridge!!!

I want to win too, but I don't give a crap about it looking good for Stan if it means getting a potential generational player added to the roster.
Lafreniere and Dach leading the charge in a few years? where do I sign up?

I'm a big John Madden fan, but I am pretty sure he wouldn't argue much with ya. 33 different players have wore #11 but it's been kind of a dead area for any kind of noticeable talent. john marks wore it the longest (9 seasons). him and jeff shantz came to my mind first. Adam Brown 1951 Fred Hucul 1951-1954 Gordie Fashoway 1951 Pete Horeck 1952 Jack McIntyre 1954-1958 Kenny Wharram 1956 Lorne Ferguson 1958-1959 Bill Hay 1960-1965 Doug Mohns 1966-1971 Danny O'Shea 1971-1972 John Marks 1973-1982 Tony Tanti 1982 Denis Cyr 1983-1984 Bob MacMillan 1985 Bill Watson 1986 Rich Preston 1987 Dan Vincelette 1988 Mike Eagles 1989-1990 Tony McKegney 1991 Brad Lauer 1992 Tony Hrkac 1992 Jeff Shantz 1994-1999 Nelson Emerson 1999 Josef Marha 2000-2001 Peter White 2002 Andrei Nikolishin 2003 Matt Keith 2004-2006 Bryan Smolinski 2007 Jack Skille 2008-2009 John Madden 2010 Jeremy Morin 2013-2015 Andrew Desjardins 2015-2017 Brendan Perlini 2019-2020

Shantz made a memory for me that I can't forget. He once skating through basically all 5 guys on a rush from his own end. Me and a friend I was watching the game with went nuts. Good hockey was slim back then, but it sticks out in my mind.
I bet you could find that clip?

so I just realized that the Devils, who already own the 7th pick, could potentially have 2 shots at the top pick depending on how Vancouver and Arizona do.....
crazy.

I am far from a draft guru, my question is, can teams like Ottawa and or the Kings , Ducks still win the first overall daft pick? If not how is that fair? It would be incredible to have the number #1 pick, but think about this for a second, could you imagine the Oilers lose to the Hawks and win the lottery with Connor and Lafreniere.

It doesn’t sound like it. Daley said it would be a team eliminated from the first round of the return to play tourney. If that tourney fails to see the light of day. The teams that are basically the bottom feeders of the first round get a shot at it, which is the Hawks!!!

I’m not a big fan of purposely tanking. But the Hawks aren’t winning the whole thing. If the Hawks were to get Lafreniere, the rebuild just got a lot quicker and a lot better. I’d say the rebuild is over. I’d also go as far to say that the Hawks could be Cup favourites in a year or two. He’s really that good!!!

I don't see Pitt losing, though. the other two, well......

I'd love to get that top pick and, in the long run, that would be the biggest help for the franchise. that being said, no way do I lose on purpose for a 12.5% chance of getting the top pick. nor would I want to see the vets on this team tank. it's a win/win/win at this point, imo. if they lose we either get the top pick or, at worst, we pick 10th. if we win, I get to watch us play more hockey and maybe make a little run as I think the teams that win in the qualifying round are going to have an advantage on the teams they play in the next round.
