I started few threads on the old boards and this is my first here. I admittedly ask this question with a certain amount of critical sarcasm but much more so to get the opinions of the many intelligent hockey fans here that I appreciate so much.

You need 1 more category:

You need 1 more category: Bottom of the Barrel Crap Team for a Decade or more Well......you know. I tried for some level of decorum so I posed my question respectfully or at least I thought I did. "Bottom of the barrel' " might not be a bad thing as far as the draft goes but that doesn't seem to be the plan either,we're obviously seeing another retool on the fly as T mentioned and we'll probably see the same results because of it. Kane,Toews and more than likely guys like Kubalik,D-Cat and an improved Dach could easily be good enough to win just enough games to keep the team out of the last few top draft positions and no man's land could be a recurring nightmare.

What about “Utter rectum puss”? Did you think of that one Bob? Huh? Huh? That’s where my vote lies!!! I guess if the team gets forced to abandon the name "Blackhawks", they can opt for URP. The Chicago URP. Of course, URP is Utter Rectum Puss, which, even if it never becomes the team's name, well describes their future status.

I can see us contend for a playoff spot most of the season falling just short and getting one last favourable draft position before a long run of playoff appearancess.

Maybe you could have a separate poll with the same choices just for Stan and the rest of the Blackhawks front office people to make their picks.

crap, hawks are crap next year.. same hot garbage that they were the last few IMO makes me sad.. It may well be that in a salary capped league where the cap level is severe and restrictive, it is impossible to ice Cup-winning teams for a a couple of years, reward the players with salary increases and maintain excellence a few years thereafter. It is not just he Hawks, look at the Pens and Kings. However, I would guess that many fans thought that with Kane, Toews, Keith and Crawford, it would all be different this time. Guess the current mess shows it can't ever be different. However, there will always be arguments made that it could have been different, but for Bowman.

Guess the current mess shows it can't ever be different. However, there will always be arguments made that it could have been different, but for Bowman. "Reward the players with salary increases"......let's look at those increases..... Keith is still the best D-man on the team, that's not such a great claim any more but true none the less and Keith makes half of what the top FA's signed for the past few years. I think he's still close to playing to his contract,de Haan only makes 900K less(more on him later). Crawford also signed for less than the top tenders were and are still making when he signed and he's still a quality tender a team can win with IMO. Kane and Toews account for 21M of the team's cap and supply team it's best two forwards in the regular season and then again this year in the PO's when the team lucked into a spot. Go back and look at the team's top two scorers annually regular and postseason and you'll see the dynamic duo occupying those spots with the exception of the two years Panarin was here. The 21M also supplies the best center on the team, the best two set up men,the best FO man by far,the best defensive forward, the team's leaders and it's captain. "It could have been different, but for Bowman".......you bet it could! Yeah 21 million's a lot but so is the 20.7 million spent last summer along with the team's best D prospect,a 2nd and a 3rd and to what end? Lehner is a top tender yet he ended up with a GAA over 3,Crawford ended up with better number as I knew he would all along.......could this 5M have been spent more efficiently? de Haan @4.6M was a huge salary dump by the team that knew him best and missed over half the season with a recurring injury that our brain dead GM KNEW he had when he traded for him. He's untradeable now and should have been bought out......could this money have been spent more efficiently too? Maata's 4M was probably the money best spent last summer and therefore the first to go?LOFL! Maata had 6pts and a team best by far +7 in 9 PO games and looked to have regained something close to his cup winning form as far as I'm concerned. Buy de Haan out instead of moving Maata(a much better player)and that alone dam near pays the big Russian we got. No bigger 'Shaw guy' than me but how does any team give up quality picks without any of the 3.9M for three years retained on the part of the Habs for another player suffering serious injury issues that everyone BUT our brain dead GM knew about apparently..........could this money and assets have been spent more efficiently? Shaw was courageous enough to gut out only 26 games worth of enthusiasm in the regular season due to those well known concussion issues but not a one in the PO's when we needed him due again to those well known issues. This brings us to Zach Smith(another PO no show) and his untradeable 3.2M. I have to think we'd all expect more than the 4gls and 11pts we got for that 3.2M and we didn't even see the toughness he was known for before he got here but that should surprise no one. Yeah,AA could have been traded but his numbers were still better then every center on the Hawks not named Jonathan Toews and he missed 19 games. To be fair,Kubalik was a very good trade and the good fortune in the draft also seems to have been used properly with Dach's pick so far but we'll have to see how the other young players taken after him play over the next year or two to also be fair. These two players seem to have saved our brain dead GM's job but are they enough to offset the massive assets and money squandered that I mentioned above? It is a severely restrictive cap strapped league as you mentioned jack and 20.7M squandered severely restricted the team even further......no? Thanks for the thought provoking post,it was a pleasure to reply to it!

Thanks for the though provoking post,it was a pleasure to reply to it! Good post, Bob, and I agree with what you said. My post was not a back-handed attempt to question giving Toews/Kane their money. They deserve it. I simply think that it is impossible in a cap strapped league to pay two guys so much money and expect to find enough to provide good support from what is left of the cap pile. Yeah, Bowman could have made better moves, but, to me, when it gets right down to it, there was no way to continue the excellence of the 2010-2015 years without sufficient money to keep it going. In addition, one can't always count on the stars to continue to contribute at levels at which they previously contributed ala the Nashville po series from 2016(?) when Kane/Toews got a couple of points between them. That is not to knock Toews/Kane. It is simply to point out that unless everything works out in a dreamy fashion without any GM mistakes, it is almost impossible to keep excellence going in the NHL for more than few years. The salary cap is bs for fans of the team and excellence in hockey. But, that is new NHL, where the motto is hey let's give every team a chance and destroy the best teams to accomplish that. I have previously suggested a way around the spending issues, such as being allowed exceptions to the cap for players who were drafted by the club, but, despite the reasonableness of that idea and its use as a tool to keep excellence going, it has no chance of being accepted by this league. It would not require teams to pay more to players, it would only give owners who want to provide excellence a chance to do it. In the meantime, good luck winning with the Marks (Wallmark and Janmark). Hey, they are better than Sikura, though. In addition, if this team is to have any chance of being a po team, Dach better figure it out and Kubalik better show that he continues to have it figured it out. By the way, somebody better figure out how to stop the opponent's shots from going in the net.

Good posts fellas. Jack one thing to keep in mind, Bowman is the master of his own destiny. He wanted Toews and Kane to be the highest paid in the league. And to be honest, they weren’t the best players in the league. Kane is a phenomenal generational player with offensive skills never seen before. But he’s only won one scoring title. There’s better offensive players. Toews is a once in a lifetime triple threat in all three zones. But there was better. And they never broke the bank. Together they were amazing. But so was Hossa, Sharp, Hammer, Soupy, Saad, Shaw, Seabs, Keith etc etc. The team is why they won. Yes individuals rose to the occasion, all of them. Sometimes more than one a night. A handful a night. They were that good. So Scambo overpaid almost every player on the team. It was lunacy at the time of almost every signing.
Tallon got a ton of flack for signing Hossa. That may have been the best contract of the bunch.
When Toews and Kane questioned even at their own presser if this was too much, Scambo said. “Let me worry about that side of hockey, you guys just play”. He thought the cap would rise 5 million a year and he’d be safe forever. Well, that was a tragic mistake and I think he should a been let go after 2014 season. I know I know. I get it. But if that was done, we’d still be winning and probably have at least an extra Cup to our names. He was awful from there on out. 2015 the core group won that cup with minimal help. Possibly Keith and Crows best hockey of their lives!!!

Kane and Toews were clutch scorers with unmatched heart and a refuse to lose attitude. How can they be once in a lifetime players and have someone better. Yes the players won in spite of the HC and GM. The other teams especially Pittsburg and Detroit were pissed because Chicago took Hossa away from them. To be truly informed Stan negotiated the Hossa contract. If anyone should have been fired after the 2014 season it should have been the HC or PP coach. In the first period of game 7 against LA we had a two goal lead and failed to score on two 5 on 3 power plays. We also lost two 2 goal leads so yes blame it on the GM. No you don’t get it. With better coaching or better execution by the players we could have won 3 in a row. We would still be winning if after the loss to Nashville Q would have bought into Stan vision or being harder to play against. All 3 cups could have been won with Savard behind the bench.as it was the players who won all 3 cups. The coaches and GM went along for the ride.

I think we're merely a declining team. I don't really see anything that suggests a promising rebuild. There is a losing culture really setting in. It looks like Bowman is going to get every opportunity to to finish destroying the team. Sorry I can't be more positive but I'm really fed up.

How’s Stan’s vision working out now? Why isn’t it working out? I’ve also stated many many times it’s getting tougher to blame Stan, if he sucks at his job, and his bosses don’t do anything about it, that’s on his bosses (Rocky). 5 straight years of decline are enough to say to me, ok, this just isn’t working, time for a new direction. Stan fails because he’s a failure. Plain and simple. He’s never ever been on a team in his life, he’s a beer league 4th liner that got a shot to run an NHL team. He’s the first fan to run a team, and he’s making a mess of it like a fan would!!!

^^ Five years of decline and no real communication from the front office as to;
A short term plan of how they are going to improve the team and get it going in the right direction.
Or a longer term plan as to how they are going to make the team into a legitimate Cup contender.
So far we've heard "going forward with youth"; is that the short and long term plan?
Is cost cutting as talked about in the article GT posted a few days ago supposed to be the first step? After the "cost cutting" moves, there are now two fewer tradeable players to use for the long term plan, if there even is one. One of those two had a fairly high trade value, or so we thought, but he's now gone.

Possibly Keith and Crows best hockey of their lives!!! T, you put players/faces on my point. You don't have guys like Hossa and the rest that you named when the cap prevents one from both paying Toews/Kane and good support players. Paying Seabrook was a huge mistake. There was no way to afford Toews, Kane and Seabrook. Someone had to go and Toews and Kane were not going to on the list on those considered to be jettisoned. As you said, it was a team effort. But, regardless of Stan's mistakes and there were plenty of them, the cap makes it practically impossible to keep the excellence going and, no doubt, that is one of the goals of the cap. Destroy excellence and keep fans in the seats of all franchises by making them believe each team really does stand a chance of winning. I hope I am wrong, but I see absolutely no path of escape from the inevitable demise of this franchise. Although, having just written that, I cannot deny that for another year, or two, they might stand a chance of making the playoffs. But, they will not be serious contenders for the Cup for at least the rest of this decade, regardless of how Dach performs.

Stan is like a guy who does not know how to swim who gets dumped overboard. Gran an oar, or a gunwale, or a lifejacket that floats by, or start doing the dog paddle or just start kicking, but no matter what he tries, he is going down. The hiring of Colliton proves that he is totally clueless. That team needed a veteran coach who knew the league inside and out----not some rookie who never even played the game at a top level.

Post by BigT on about an hour ago Rocky wanted them to be the highest paid players as it was his money and he had to approve it. The coaches and GM went along for the ride. man, I gotta say.... this gave me a good chuckle this afternoon. appreciate it.... fire Q a year removed from the Blackhawks second Cup win and after making the WCF again that season? come on, man...... fyi: they did fire the pp coach that summer..... they replaced Kompon with Dineen.

Finally!!!. The second sentence should have been in deep very deep purple as it was pouring with sarcasm. That window was small and now closed by Q's inflexibility. You and others constantly complain that JC miss uses his players but you accepted it when Q did it. In the 2017-2018 season Q had 3 good hard hitting d-men, Seabrook, Murphy and Fransen and they were neutered by a poke checking system. When we were successful we were up tempo and fast paced but we slowed down or other teams caught up. Instead of playing tight D and be offensively aggressive setting the pace we became followers which results in losing hockey. Your math is wrong because we led the conference in the 16-17 season so there is at most three years of decline. He may not have been on a team but he spent his formative years in NHL dressing rooms soaking up the atmosphere, listening to and watching some of the best players of all time. His father was one of the best coaches of all time. Scotty like most fathers myself and more than likely you spent much time sharing our knowledge with our children. Has anyone ever actually sat down one on one with Stan to test his hockey knowledge?

I have to say seeing how well the team has done since it allowed a loser of a GM to dump a HoF coach totally proves your point......LOFL! Rocky fired Q. Rocky made it known after the 2016-2017 season he was unhappy with the team but was not ready to place blame. He was willing to wait until the next season but he was not going to wait too long.

Not as funny as firing the WCF GM for the team losing a winnable game.

Probably like everyone else, I never understood the reasoning behind hiring Colliton, and I still don't. I know I said this back around when he was hired but I couldn't understand how an NHL club would hire someone with zero NHL coaching experience as the HC. What was it about JC and his coaching background that appealed to Stan and made him think he was HC material, over other possible candidates with experience.
