We were playing small years before JC was hired. If JC does not have the team playing a more physical game I will be very disappointed and he should be put on notice. he should already be on notice. he didn't need different players to make the ones he had play the system he wants to play. Connor Murphy was a tough SOB on his last team and Zach Smith was quick to settle his own and other's hash with the Sens......what happened when they got here? With Cagguila gone and who knows what we get from Shaw because if he plays his style,he doesn't play long any more,we'll see an entire team hiding behind one big Russian.

Howdy y'all. Been a while. I lost track of this website and when I got an email yesterday saying hi and stop by I started looking through site history and finally found it. So how are things? Hope everyone is well.
As for the question posed in this thread - yeah, ain't that the $64K question. I don't know what they are and where they're going but if I was the decision maker I would strip it down to the studs and do a complete rebuild. That doesn't guarantee future success but I believe doing anything short of that guarantees future failure.
What do I mean? Trade everything not nailed down and get what you can in picks and prospects. Retain up to max salary to enhance the return and acknowledge that we're going to suck big time for a couple or three years, but at least that gives us the best chance to emerge from the fog with something resembling a competitive team on the ascendency.

I'm sure some people didn't come to this new site but at least many the best did.

It is great to see so many of the familiar faces from the old board, and T-man did a fantastic job giving this the similar feel as the old. Over the last year, little by little familiar faces have joined in, so hopefully as time goes by that will continue. But major contributors from the old site made it here, and it's fun reading their opinions and jumping in from time to time with mine, even if it is just to crack a joke! Hope you keep contributing. The more, the merrier!
My post count hit 5050........did I win the raffle?

I wonder if someone here saw ya in the comments on committed.... i noticed your name in there a few times when Bob posted an article here the other day. I think your plan is probably the plan, we just have to go through Stan pissing off the core enough so they'll waive. which is just going to be great fun..... or embarrassing. I'm gonna go with the latter.

When Connor Murphy came to Chicago the coaches were allergic to hitting. At least to the d hitting or being physical. It was Stan's idea to supply Q with some players including Murphy to bring more physicality to the team. Murphy can still be a tough SOB if the system called for it. I remember a time when Seabrook on a regular basis took out his man. Zack Smith during the 2019-2020 season had back problems and underwent back surgery. Shaw's game is instinctive and he will continue to play the same way. The last thing I read about Shaw was that he is fully recovered from his last concussion and healing from some previous ones. I do not see the team as the reincarnation of the Broad Street Bullies but we have enough size to make it harder for our opponents to go from point A to B. The big Russian will just be the biggest.

I read on another Hawks board that the Hawks are holding a press conference tomorrow. Anyone else hear anything about that? If true - interesting and possibly affecting the very thing this tread is about.

There was a report about a month or so ago that Eddie was interested in another front office job (maybe Florida? not sure) so there might be some legs to this Eddie to be president of the Hawks - if that's even what the presser is going to be about.
I have mixed emotions on that. Eddie is certainly well qualified and a well connected hockey guy, but my concern would be that he is too connected to the core players on the Hawks and there would be a legitimate argument for bringing in someone from outside that would bring more of a dispassionate viewpoint.

If Bowman is moving aside, or Eddie O (I missed him at Brother Rice High School by 1 year - my sophomore baseball coach also coached the hockey club and made us watch the 1984 Olympic games during early Spring practice if my memory is correct) or someone else will be elevated to the role of President/Chief Bottle washer, I wonder: has Bowman made his recent FA, draft and trade decisions in his own bubble? Have they taken place during a time when he KNEW Hawks brass was readying organizational changes? Is the impending change the result of the recent Bowman track record, or the last 5 years' worth of record? Or will we all be supremely-disappointed in whatever announcement that is forthcoming today? Time for more coffee.

Good to be seen. And good to be back. I agree with your preference to have a hockey guy as president but I'd rather have a hockey guy who doesn't have heartstring attachments to current players and staff. I'm not suggesting Eddie wouldn't be able to make decisions independent of his personal feelings - only that there is that possibility whereas I wouldn't have that same concern about a hockey guy from outside.
