I suspect it could be a bad case of the Bowman Flu

It's like God's tellin' SB "you said you were rebuilding and I'm holding you to it". I have a Blues fan in my crowd, and he just asked if JT was skipping the season because he's tired. Your sentiment is one of two theories I replied to him with. The other, and it has been discussed in different threads and one you'd never want to imagine as being a potential: the remaining core is voicing its collective displeasure. Either way, Soderberg's deal looks even better and Strome will likely make a few more pesos this year!

As much as Toews faking an illness to protest what Bowman has done to this team, or simply to miss another bad season, it does not seem very likely, given my perception of who he is. I just can't see him doing that.

Soderberg for 1 year @1m is hard to argue with if you want some semblance of competitiveness for your team........do we want to be competitive this year? I still want to see Strome re-signed on a one year and I want to see a big role for him for thorough, once and for all assessment......if he fails,so what.

Get better JT!

This resembles tank-a-thon. Which I’m weirdly ok with. No Toews and no CC, an aging core group, a horrific injury to Dach means this year probably won’t be worth watching. There’s really not even many young kids to hope to get much better. A first overall will really help the equation!!!

I am not playing doc here because I have enough trouble trying to figure out very simple things, but those symptoms remind me of really nasty long-term diseases like ALS or MS.

Hope he's ok and recovers quickly from whatever the issue is.
With the way things are going, just take the season off at this point.
Heck, I'd say Kane should as well but I love watching the guy play and want to continue seeing him pile up amazing career stats to hold a place in history among the greatest ever.

Maybe Kane should go for individual stats and the hell with the team performance as the team ain't going anywhere anyway. It would make the season fun for him, if he approached it that way. But, I doubt that one can switch his play style and feel good about it. So, I doubt his focus will be on individual performance stats. Besides, it ain't like basketball where one can just start launching three pointers every time one gets his hands on the ball in order to build up his PPG. Hockey is much more team oriented.

Well, if Toews/dach/Nylander are essentially all out for season (I know it's too early to say that on Toews but if this illness isn't covid related, the alternatives aren't good)... then this team is going to have major trouble scoring goals... so, it may very well be Kane/Colliton's strategy to keep him on ice for as long as possible is to only play essentially half the ice or "cherry pick" if you will. No amount of Kane effort in the defensive zone is going to change the results of games and the inevitable race for the No. 1 overall pick

just gotta say this:
Toews is sick, he has a medical issue. he is not "faking" anything to get out of playing this season. he is not "protesting" against Bowman.
this is the kind of bullshit being spewed by rival fans online. we, as Blackhawks fans, should be supporting our Captain and not entertaining bullshit from idiotic blows fans (or any other fan base that has been waiting to jump all over our "overrated" Captain since he won three Cups last decade).
I hope he gets this thing figured out and and has a speedy and full recovery.

Honestly, not even worth watching what other fans are saying... they're going to say/think what they want regardless of what we say. It's the same for everything in this country/world now (politics/pandemic/social issues/etc.) you're just not going to convince anyone once they've made up their minds about something. If they think he's faking it so he doesn't have to play then it's obvious they are ignoring his history, or simply don't follow, the NHL as a whole.

You know how I try to keep things lighthearted on a lot of subjects and didn't mean to offend anyone.
I'm wondering if this has anything to do with his diet change of several years ago. If I remember correctly he either went vegan or vegetarian. Maybe over time that slowly brought on whatever he is going thru now.
Obviously I hope it's nothing serious and they can figure out what it is and help get him back to health and back on the ice as soon as possible.

I wouldn’t doubt if the Hawks current state has something to do with this. As in the way he’s been treated and disrespected by the management staff. I’d bet depression could be a factor here. It’s gotta suck to give your heart and soul and get treated like he has recently. I could also be dead wrong and he has a terrible sickness. I’m not thinking that way. I have to think it’s got a lot to do with the times and the way work is going. But if you honestly asked people one on one, they’d agree he’s not a faker!!!

I did not, Phil. I wasn't really addressing anyone here, moreso other sites where I've seen Blackhawks fans doing so and it pissed me off. I know that likely no one here actually thinks that, but I wanted to address it before it became a thing here as well.

Toews has always been a pretty straightforward and stand-up guy. I don't believe he'd fake an illness to get out of playing. If he was so furious and angry with Bowman and direction of the franchise he'd come out and say it and demand a trade. He's not a quitter. He has played through various injuries his entire career including on the biggest stages.

I've seen comments suggesting Stan signed Soderberg because he knew about Toews' situation ... if that's true then I think it makes Toews' situation even more worrisome than the concern I had after reading his public statement. Toews said his doctors were trying to diagnose the problem but if his doctors have had at least several days and still haven't determined what the issue is - it seems unlikely it would be anything that would be quickly diagnosed like Covid or Mono or other such "less threatening" illnesses. I don't want to be alarmist and I hope I'm wrong but this seems like something of a more serious nature.

Again, nto trying to be alarmist and I am no doctor but if they're having trouble diagnosing it's not good. If he had Covid between end of their bubble stay and now and was having long-term effects (very possible) there's no reason for the to hide that or keep it secretive, it's well known that can happen with this virus. Yoan Moncada, the 25-year-old White sox 3B, had Covid before their season started and even as it was ending was still saying he had conditioning issues cause of it. I remember there were some games later in the season he had hit triples and after he got into third he was absolutely winded. One time had to go back and sit in dugout for several minutes before he could go back out to field again.

I was never diagnosed with it, but I’m quite sure we had that running through here earlier this year and symptoms stayed for a long long time after. I had a cough for about 8-9 weeks where I though I broke ribs. We had a kid on our hockey team get “pneumonia” in November of 19. It spread horribly through our room and most people I know probably had it, but they didn’t start testing till March and it was very tough to get a test. I knew of a lot of people that had been diagnosed with “pneumonia”. My point is that this thing has been running wild and free a lot longer than we think. Maybe Toews was a symptomatic and now he’s seeing other problems from it as time moves on? I also have periods of total lethargy, but if I don’t work......... Hopefully this thing passes for him. Like the ole saying, you can have all the money in the world, but if you don’t have health!!!

While all things are possible, it is hard for me to believe that he is so unhappy about the state of the franchise/the way he has been treated that he has lapsed into depression with severe physical ailments. I would think that he has more resiliency/resources to avoid that condition. My guess is some debilitating physical illness with depression as a very understandable reaction to being unable to use his physical talents as he has in the past. Hell, I used to get depressed over not being able to play ratball for awhile after a sprained ankle and I was only a gym rat.

There are an increasing number of stories about the "long-termers" which is the term used to describe the serious symptoms still experienced by those infected by Covid months after they started testing negative. I read about people who get exhausted after making their beds. Yikes-----that is really nasty.
