^yah, so thankful, he decided to hold the team hostage to ensure they got back a garbage return in a trade... a$$hole legacy forever tarnished i hope he doesn't return, don't want him sitting atop the leaderboard for franchise goals, assists or points and i hope he fails in his quest for another cup some ones spouting sour grapes, I think you should be happy he decided to waive and be traded, it was a big decision for him and his family , and you can tell it was a hard one to make , for you to be so upset with his life decision for your own benefit,,, kinda childish, It's fine to not agree with the compensation, but attacking him as a person no need his decision, the way it was made, how long it took, only submitting 1 team, was that of a spoiled POS and a total jacka$$ who doesn't give a crap about the franchise or its fans, period, sorry you are so blinded by love for him and the franchise to see that

Scotty Bowman managed to rebuild the Dead Wings on the fly for years and years. And of course, we all see what happened when Stan Bowman tried to do the same with the Hawks. I believe Scotty did it by trading one or two top players each year or two for high draft picks. A healthy farm system and good development are key. Two areas that were lacking under Stan. To be clear, Scotty was not the GM of the Wings, he was the coach. He was co-GM with Jim Devellano from june 94 to july 97. Then Jim Holland was hired from july 97 to 2019. Bowman stayed as the coach till 2002, then he retired as coach after the cup win. My bad. Sorry, my memory isn't what it used to be. It was indeed Devellano I was thinking of.

Everyone wants to give a pass to the way Kane handled this situation. Yes, he gave the organization and fans 16 years of amazing hockey, but he was well paid for those years. And I'm sure the last 6 to 7 years have been hell on him (and Toews) after all the success they experienced in the early part of their careers. But in the end, it all became about HIM, not the Hawks and not the fans. I paid dearly for those improved seasons and cup wins when my season tickets went from $15 a game in 2008/09 to $66 a game 10 years later.
In the end, because of Kane failing to waive his NMC until the last minute, AND making it public he only wanted to play for the Rangers, he screwed the organization, and with that the fans, especially the loyal season ticket holders who all saw their tickets skyrocket over the years. I'd be interested to know if starting next season the Hawks will be drastically lowering their ticket prices, since what everyone will be watching is the Rockford Icehogs at the UC, and little resemblance to an actual NHL team, or they'll continue to charge the same prices based on past history.
I'm sorry, I loved Kane, but now think he's a complete dick for making his feelings public, denying Davidson any leverage with the Rangers, leading to the most pathetic return in recent history.
And if that opinion doesn't mesh with some or all of you, too bad. I have a right to my opinion just like you do.

I just look at it a different way. Since the day after the draft I figured it would go down this way, Im sure KD was hoping that 88&19 would come to him and request a trade. That did not happen then they started the PR game KD saying he would like them to be part of the rebuild JMO but he had no desire for that. And 88 had no desire to help KD I dont think they talked much of the year, they never talked extension. Maybe if KD is upfront about not wanting him back things would have been different but the Hawks wanted to be the ones coming out of this with the PR win at the expenses of getting a little less. Just my take, I have been a STH for a long time he owes me nothing, I believe my tickets went down 10% not much of a discount when you think about it. I told everyone that this would be my last year with tickets, then the bill came and I was like I cant give this up I love going to games I love watching people play this game live! I will never hold it against anyone for there opinion I am very passionate about this team to the point where most people think I am an Idiot, they are probs right, but I like what I like. Also nothing against 88 but I like the Devils team so that who I will be rooting for in the first round.

I can only wish the best for Kane, short of winning a Cup with the Rangers. I have never liked the type of team the Rangers have always been, using their big $$ to lure players away from other teams. Hope Kane scores lots of goals for the NYR, but always just one short of winning a game for the self-proclaimed "great" Rangers. They might have the best collection of talent in the NHL right now, but talent DOESN'T always win. (thank goodness).

last to wear #88 for the rags was eric lindros way back in 2004. The guy's doing the game last night said Ken Hodge was the only other player to wear the number for the Rags besides Lindros before Kane.

If Kane had bad-mouthed the Org,the rebuild, publicly demanded a trade and then submitted only one acceptable destination.......I'd have a problem with him too,but that's not what happened. I believe he wanted to finish here but the Org and most of the fanbase wanted him gone,he didn't have to waive at all. Getting a conditional first vs a conventional first will really sour you on Kane's entire time here?

They would have preferred an earlier waiver notification and a better poker face from Kane.

The GM said publicly that he wouldn't ask either K or T to waive, which could have sped up the process too. I'm not saying the situation wasn't a tough one for KD,it would have been tough for any GM........I'll live with the return.

If PK wanted to stay he could have refused to wave. KD lived up to his promise and did not pressure Kane either way. No waive no trade. Kane's verbal outburst after the Tarasenko trade demonstrated he wanted to be traded to NY and only NY leaving KD no choice but to grant Kane's wish. PK decided what was best for him as was his right.

Yes and here is my problem. He did what was best for him as is his right. He didn’t care one bit about the franchise and in turn the fans. Even after Kyle the clown made it clear he’d “do right” by him and trade him to get away from this total dumpster fire franchise kane couldn’t help him at all?
Would it have killed the guy to submit 2-3 teams publicly or at least not make it so clear it was only the rangers? So at least clown boy coulda acted like there were other teams involved and drive up the price?
Kane proved to be a spoiled, selfish prick.

One thing we all need to keep in mind regarding Kane.
Davidson cost Kane millions of dollars in future salary by gutting the team last summer. Without Strome and Debrincat, Kane's UFA value plummeted this year as his scoring numbers dried up. I believe Brisson was shopping Kane the past several weeks and could not find a new contract for him from the contenders.
No question about it - Kane put Davidson and the organization in a very tough spot by so aggressively using his NMC to control where he would go. But to be fair - he must have been quite pissed off about what happened. This summer, Kane's options will be very limited as a UFA.
I am not angry with Kane. He did what was best for him, just like Davidson did what he felt what was best for him.
But to my mind, Kane's response here was personal - he likely despises Davidson.
After three cups and countless good memories, he owes the Hawks fans nothing.

You could tell something was wrong. He just couldn’t go to the hard areas. I think that explains the trade return. Regardless. It’s gotta suck for him. Who signs a guy who just got surgery? Especially who’s gonna be 35 at the beginning of next year? He may have to do a one year deal and prove he’s healthy enough to play. So we’ll see!!!

He has some attainable Hawk goals he can reach as a Hawk, but he also has American goals he can reach with anyone.

I think his most realistic shot at success is with the Rags. I think that’s where he wants to be at this stage. But it sucks for him because of his injury. I’m pretty confident he needs surgery. Can’t keep going on like this. If healthy. Maybe he’s got me more 100 point season in him? But it’s tough to sign a guy at his age with his injury. Especially at the dollars he probably wants and deserves!!!

I don't get it. Both Toews and Kane likely would have re-signed at a very reasonable cap hit. I still think $3M/year for Toews and $5M/year for Kane would have been enough especially if the team signed off two years. Davidson still gets his high tank pick this year along with all the other picks acquired .... He can still add some more by taking on a couple of cap dumps. Add a bounce back type UFA or two on a one year deal, and the team is competitive next year with a strong farm system and a flexible cap. Clearly the intention is to tank again next year and perhaps for the next couple. By that point, Reichel is likely wanting out. Hopefully the prospects brought in are not completely ruined.

In those articles that Nikos posted, sure seems like Kane will look to resign with NY or at least another real contender. He still sounds like he doesn't want to continue with a losing season rebuild and wants to compete for a cup run. In 3-4 years the Hawks will have a night for 19/88 number retirement ceremony. Hawks of course will lose that game badly as they always do on those nights.

I believe you’re assuming too much here. Kane didn’t want to be back. And I don’t think Toews did either. So no point in saying either side is wrong at this point. I think it was mutual. Which is fine. Pretty happy it wasn’t like it used to be under dollar Bill!!!

For two guys who wanted to go, they sure took their time deciding.......
I did not get the sense that either was in any hurry. In fact, Kane seemed to be setting up obstacles making a trade more difficult.
You might be right, Big T. But you also might be very wrong. Clearly, neither wants to stay at this point if they feel no longer welcome. I think the situation is quite sad.
