The jury's out on the trade. Stillman might look like a top four D-man in the preseason, let's s how that shakes out. If Borgstrom doesn't make the lineup AND a difference that 7 million for Connolly skating in Rockford means what? We should be happy we're not paying Zach Smith 2.0 5 million to play in Rockford?.........how has the bar for SB lowered that much? de HAAN's another guy who shoulda been bought out but as it is,we'll be payin' de HAAN,Strome and Connolly over 11 million for little return. More pro experience? The 161lb Euro saw the big ice for the first time ever this preseason and Mitchell saw 39 NHL starts last year. Your optimism is duly noted, let's both hope the fortune spent this offseason turns the team around. I'm not just basing it on his preseason play but the regular seasons games after the trade, Stillman's a solid mobile dman, how's Carlsson doing? And Wallmark is back overseas. I think the Hawks won that trade. Plus they got a 7th round pick. Yes Galvas is skinny but he's a tough smart defensive dman who played 3yrs in the Czech league, his first 2 were with his dad as a D partner, then another 2yrs in Finland, 178 PRO games. Plus he played at 2 World Juniors. Not many people can say they played pro hockey with their dad. I've liked him since his World Junior days, was surprised how he played for his sized and even more so on the small ice in the preseason and at the prospect games. Mitchell played 39gms last season, and after the Spengler Cup he looked ready, but he took a beating and looked overwhelmed. He even said he looks forward to playing in Rockford so let him get more pro experience than 39gms.

Lucas is still listed as one of the 11 D-men on the roster,he's skated substantial minutes in most of the PS games and will probably again tonight against TB. He's getting a long look and he'll be a late send down if he goes.........something that can't be said for Bret 'buyout' Connolly. Stillman looks okay so far but you're calling 'win' after seeing him skate 13 games for the team? I only have the Hawks site to go off of but it looks like Galvas would start the year as the lightest D-man in the league weight-wise. In a MUCH more physical league and on the smaller surface.....I wish the kid well! Spurgeon figured out how to stay in the league with a small frame. Two D-men that figured into things are now out for a month or two so Stillman should see starts and I guess it'll come down to Beaudin and Mitchell. If Mitchell is satisfied going back to Rockford @22......he can stay there.

Hes looking forward to playing alot of min in all situations working on parts of his game that need the work against men. No sin to be in the AHL @ 22 But if your done with him I get it kinda

These guys were our future just a year or two ago and now they're filler if that. All four kids could still surprise at some point and I wish em all well. Joker's a mainstay in Buffalo's lineup so I guess it'd only be three surprises.

If Mitchell is satisfied going back to Rockford @22......he can stay there. Carlsson signed a 1yr 2way contract, I highly doubt he makes the Panthers team unless there's injuries. I've been an advocate of his for years but I'd rather have the younger, bigger Stillman who loves to hit and plays a smart 2way game, something I thought you'd appreciate. The Panthers needed some cap space so they took your favorite player, "buyout" Connelly, but the Hawks had space to they took back a high end prospect in Borgstrom and got another center with the 7th pick. So you're saying the jury is still out because Carlsson is getting a long look in Florida? Seems like you don't want to say the Hawks won because they have Brett in Rockford. And in Mitchells interview he said of course he wants to be in the NHL but he knows he has things to work on and he looks forward to playing a lot of minutes in Rockford. We can keep going back and forth on this trade but time will tell.

I haven't said a single negative thing about Stillman and I do like his style of play, the sample size is still small here though and I see a defensive D-man and that's okay.....6pts in his first 56 games @23 doesn't say 2way game to me......I hope I'm wrong. It does look like Carlsson starts the year in Syracuse and it might take an injury but he did get a long look. Borgstrom looks to have talent but he's always had talent,if he makes the commitment @24 he might be a player. I don't watch the last few rounds of the draft so just let me know when that other kid makes the team. I don't how trading for a guy who had 3.5M coming his way for the rest of last year and two more after that not being able to make the lineup isn't a bad deal......Rusty Olisz comes to mind. UNLESS Borgstrom and Stillman effectively fill roles the next few years........we essentially paid 7M for the two and they might be worth that or more but we've only seen 13 starts from Stillman and none from Borgstrom yet and that's why I said the jury is still out. Fla was also able to trade for and re-sign Sam Bennett after clearing Connonlly's space last year.......time will tell.

So Nylander to start in Rockford. I think that’s smart. Can’t give these free passes anymore!!!
