tbh it's easier for me to imagine dirk graham on this prestigious list than the other 3 but it just goes to show what great talents they were no matter what strength their team was at. graham's 10th all time in shorties with 35. the top active player is marchand at 33. gretzky tops all time with 73 shorties. graham captained the blackhawks from 89 to 95. Dirk Graham scored TEN(!!) of his 33 goals whilst shorthanded in 1988/89. Others to score 10+ man-down goals in a season:
Dionne. Gretzky. Lemieux.
Picked up the Selke Trophy in 1991 on an Iron Mike Keenan coached Chicago squad.x.com/kurri_jari/status/1706461710331372025?s=20dirk graham never won a cup but at least he can say he scored a nice goal in a canada cup game with gretzky assisting. gretzky also assisted 2 other former hawks in this short video. x.com/VintageOilers/status/1699162864534392937?s=20

today's useless but slightly interesting fact o' the day. Chris Chelios has played in more Stanley Cup playoff games than anyone else (266). In fact, he has played more than 16 franchises.x.com/hockey_samurai/status/1706806605311094899?s=20top 5 all time in playoff games played... chelios 266 nick lidstrom 263 messier 236 claude lemieux 234 scott stevens 233 of note...henri richard, who has won the most cups as a player with 11, is 42nd at 180 games. but of course back in the old days you didn't need to play near as many games to win a cup. and while i got the page open, top 5 goalies with the most playoff games are... roy 247 marty brodeur 205 MAF 169 belfour 161 grant fuhr 150

One of the top NHL brother pairs ever! Maybe the top actually. Competition would include Hulls, Mahovliches, Sedins and now we have the young Hughes and Tkachuks. I know I’m missing others.

I know I’m missing others. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_family_relations_in_the_NHLtoo many to count. i was already at a hundred sets of brothers and i wasn't even through the H's. some other nuggets from the article: Since 1917, 47 pairs of brothers have played together on the same team; among them, ten have won the Stanley Cup together. Brothers have also squared off against each other five times in the Stanley Cup finals, most recently in 2003.
The Chicago Blackhawks have seen the most familial connections with 31: twenty sets of brothers, five father-son combinations, three uncle-nephew combinations, and three sets of cousins.
The Sutter family has had the largest number of family members – nine – play, coach and manage in the NHL. The original six brothers (Brent, Brian, Darryl, Duane, Rich, and Ron) and three of their sons (cousins Brandon, Brett, and Brody) result in multiple brother/father-son/uncle-nephew/cousin combinations.

What really pisses me off, is being a Fan my whole life, watching other teams spend like crazy, and the richie rich Family wouldn't pay a dime, then we finally, build a team through the draft, along with a couple dandy trades, and And what the F,,,, happens in the mean time .we have a salary cap, I can't help but think of how many we could have won if their was no cap

I recall celebrating when the strike began, because I knew it meant teams like the wangs wouldn't be able to just buy a team anymore... and then, just a few years later, I was cursing the damn cap, lol. that team would've been a damn monster for years and years if they were able to keep em together...

lots of talk here about the blackhawks' epic 5 goal comeback against the flames but it pales in comparison to the flames 5 goal comeback october 16th, 1989 against the nordiques. that comeback started with 6:33 left in the 3rd period and brought calgary from 3-8 to 8-8. overtime settled nothing and the game finished a tie. i always say bill mosienko's 3 goals in 21 seconds record won't be broke. well, the flames somehow scored 2 shorties in 4 seconds in that comeback...so make that another record that won't be broken. of course the 2 shorties were the ones that brought them from 6-8 to 8-8, the second one with 11 seconds left in the 3rd making that comeback even more epic. www.nhl.com/gamecenter/cgy-vs-que/1989/10/17/1989020060/boxscore

I can’t imagine either of those records ever being broken. Taking a draw at center ice and getting it past the GT in under 4 seconds? Maybe on an empty net.

Agree but of course no reason for the net to be empty. Actually i could see mosienko's record falling before that one. Tried to find video of the 2 shorties but no luck yet. You'd think it would be easy to find. Maybe it doesn't exist.

Even Mosienko’s would be incredibly difficult since it takes a couple of seconds after the first one to win the center ice faceoff and then repeat but I agree the 2 shorties should stand for a long time!

to me this seems longer than 10 years ago.
i thought it was byfuglien that drilled pardy thru the glass but it was bollig actually.
i guess you could say that pardy wasn't the only person that got hammered at the UC that night.

funny that a couple future blackhawks sported likely the 2 most famous numbers in bruin's history. (4 & 7)
whitey wore #4 four years before orr did, but since pit martin was part of the trade that sent espo to boston, he just inherited martin's number.

that's 38 years ago today that bob probert had his first nhl fight. hard to believe.
his last was feb. 13, 2002 against the panther’s brad norton. earlier that game he had fought peter worrell.
depending where you look, probert had between 239-246 total regular and post season fights. that's a lot of knuckles going each way.
his most frequent combatant was stu grimson with 13 fights. i likely would've guessed domi but they only had 9 fights.

I vividly remember that, my mom was terminally ill and in the hospital and the game was on, she laughed and said I'm probably in no hurry to go home to watch the 3rd period. Got home and it was 5-3, watched them battle back and Seabs winning it in OT. She sadly passed away 6 days after they won the Cup in 2010.

i guess the home team wore the dark unis back in those days. interesting watching them shake hands. i wonder when the handshake "line" came to be? also found it satisfying that even in the old days they still booed the nhl president (in this case clarence campbell) with gusto.
