i guess the home team wore the dark unis back in those days. interesting watching them shake hands. i wonder when the handshake "line" came to be? also found it satisfying that even in the old days they still booed the nhl president (in this case clarence campbell) with gusto. aye, the home team wore the dark sweaters at first. I believe the switch to the whites at home came in '70.

selfishly posting this for no other reason than that tony-0 remains my all-time favorite blackhawk.
growing up, i think i would've been (almost) as excited with tony winning the vezina than the team winning the cup.
edit: crazy ratio of wins to ties on tony's stat line.

But as Chicagoans we certainly do certainly know of unforeseen ways to NOT succeed: sports.yahoo.com/the-1985-bears-were-crowned-as-our-best-nfl-team-ever-why-is-their-legacy-so-strong-160013364.html.

anyone here witness this game live on t.v.? i didn't, good chance i was deep in the bush in some camp with no t.v. i wish i had've seen it, though.
of course, the americans still had to beat finland for the gold. i'm just guessing but i would think even against finland the u.s. would have to have been considered underdogs but i'm open to being corrected if someone knows differently. another herb brooks quote here snipped from wikipedia.
Needing to defeat Finland to secure the gold medal, Team USA faced a 2–1 deficit at the end of the second period. According to Mike Eruzione, coming into the dressing room for the second intermission, Brooks turned to his players, looked at them, and said, "If you lose this game, you'll take it to your fucking graves." He then walked towards the locker room door, paused, looked over his shoulder, and said to them again, "Your fucking graves." Team USA came back in the third period to defeat Finland 4–2.

I can't say for sure if the U.S. squad was one or the other anymore but I do remember high expectations after the momentum of defeating Red Army,a loss in the final woulda been devastating for those of us counting on those college kids!!!!

I just noticed the date....... so as my first contribution to the board and as somewhat of an introduction.... I thought I'd share an unofficial This Day in Chicago Sports.... I was lucky enough to be up in the cheap seats that night. The Bismarck Hotel had dinner and ticket packages and my Dad took my brother and me to witness history.... I'm sure we went to a few more games at The Stadium before we moved to California a few years later, but this was by far the most memorable...... Enjoy.......
