i was kind've on the fence about starting a new thread about this but i think the topic gets it's share of comments here (good and bad) so it's my thinking it merits it's own place here. anyhoo...this year's broadcasting crew was released a couple days ago. Returning for his 12th-consecutive season as host of Blackhawks Pregame Live presented by Toyota and Blackhawks Postgame Live presented by Verizon, NBC Sports Chicago’s veteran Blackhawks expert Pat Boyle will be joined in-studio this season by a rotating roster of expert analysts that includes Blackhawks/NHL analyst Caley Chelios, three-time Stanley Cup champion/three-time Norris Trophy winner/Blackhawks legend Chris Chelios, Chicago-area native/13-year NHL veteran/former NHL & collegiate head coach Tony Granato, Hockey Hall of Famer/Blackhawks legend Denis Savard, and former NHL All-Star/fan favorite John Scott.
As previously announced by the Blackhawks, 30+ year veteran NHL analyst/former Blackhawks goaltender Darren Pang will join second-year play-by-play announcer Chris Vosters in the NBC Sports Chicago broadcast booth this season. Caley Chelios will also return to the broadcast booth this season as a regular backup analyst when Pang is out on national assignments.did i miss the tony granato hiring? he's from downer's grove (love the name of that town) so he's a local lad. almost 800 regular season games as a player and almost 200 as a head coach so he's got the pedigree. bummer the season opener is a nationally televised game...but nobody should be surprised i guess. www.nbcsportschicago.com/nhl/chicago-blackhawks/blackhawks-news/nbc-sports-chicago-ushers-in-new-era-of-blackhawks-hockey-starting-next-week/508408/

How will we make it through the season without Colby Cohen? The only ones in that group I'd keep is John Scott and Tony Granato.

For me the biggest ? will be Pang. I will do my best to start with an open mind. I'm trying as well, but I know the first time I hear "it", I'll be over it and wish he was relegated back to st loo... he seems to love the 'hawks, though, so I'm not sure I'll be able to hate him toooo much...

For me the biggest ? will be Pang. I will do my best to start with an open mind. I actually like Pang going all the way back to when he first did broadcasts with the Hawks. So looking forward to an improved broadcast. I'm not sold on Vosters. He's now got a full season under his belt, hoping to hear vast improvements. At least I know I won't have to avoid the Hawks broadcast when the Turd-le neck twin ended up on the broadcast. His loss is a massive gain for Blackhawk fans everywhere!

After a decade of listening to Pat and Edzo, all I can say is listening to 'Barbie and Ken' is GUT WRENCHING! I don't disagree. But Pang is less a problem for me then Vosters. But it took the Hawks several years between Pettit and Foley. So unfortunately it may be several years before they find a worthy replacement for Foley.....Vosters is not it! As for Olczyk, it also took several changes between Tallon and Eddie. But I don't mind Pang. He's DEFINITELY better then having to listen to Cohen.

After a decade of listening to Pat and Edzo, all I can say is listening to 'Barbie and Ken' is GUT WRENCHING! yeah, I think I posted in the very first game thread that I missed Pat and Eddie. Vosters is ok IF he just calls the game. when he gets his mouth yappin, he falls off imo. Chelios is god awful. watched the game last night with my dad and his says "she doesn't seem very enthusiastic about this game". lol. when she made the comment about "we want the Cup" being chanted, I lost it on the tube. really let her have it. I don't think she heard me, though... no, Caley, they aren't chanting that. they are chanting the same fucking thing the Blackhawks crowd has chanted in the UC for decades when the wangs come to town...

And I believe she had a relative playing for them during the chants.....can't remember who that could have been, but a REALLY close relative.....maybe a father figure 😆 maybe even has the same last name?

Hawks fans really deserve something better than what we seem to be stuck with this coming season. Can’t believe there is no one available for these positions.

Still would need the other person to be better too.

I think the turdleneck twins had photos of Daniel, a tub of tapioca pudding, and a rotary hoe that shouldn't be made public.

i never got to watch the pregame but i believe i found the clip phill9 was referencing in the knight's GDT.
i really like pang's enthusiasm and although to me it seems a bit strange, i thought having him between the benches with chris vosters in the booth worked amazingly well.

I’m not sure Vosters is the guy id want moving forward. He just doesn’t know the sport and it’ll take him another decade before he really becomes a hockey guy. I think it’s best to move on from him after this year. Plus the team will be the leagues shiny new toy soon. Gotta have a great crew to call the games. I’d like to see someone better!!!

Hawks went thru several between Pettit and Foley. I agree, hoping Vosters is gone after this season. He talks over the National Anthem, then as the tribute to Rocky starts, he again talks over the beginning to tell us they're doing the tribute to Rocky. His play by play is awful as well. Pang makes him mildly more tolerable, but not much. Thinking the Hawks brought Pang in to see if Vosters improves with a quality color commentator and if not, they'll hopefully cut ties quickly after the end of this season.

But Vosters did say something great during the first home game, he said he has a great voice for golf. Yes he does, now go cover golf.

But I’d rather my commentary be from a fan of the game that can’t get enough of the sport. Guys who are always throwing out stats that they looked up and not the producer whispering in their ear. In the new word of the year for the Hawks. I’d rather have an organic crew that just gets it. Not someone that’s straight outta college looking for a gig!!!

Vosters isn't hell-bent on learning it. You can tell because his innate hockey knowledge hasn't appreciably increased in the time he's been calling the play.

I was not a fan of Foley till that infamous moment he yelled out Baaaannnneerrrmmmmaaaannnnnnnnnnn! on a save in the North Stars playoffs of '81'
Maybe Vosters will have that "moment" too.

It is possible. I just think that Foley loves the game, and has his whole life. Wasn’t Foley doing college games at first? I don’t think Vosters followed or follows the game. He has no clue who signed where last summer. He probably thinks Dcat is in Ottawa. He has no clue that an RFA like Pinto is still out. And the reason why that matters is because they’re talking points in a game. I’d rather Colby get a shot at announcing just due to him knowing the game. That’s why Eddie and Panger are very good as colour guys. This is why I take the time to enjoy guys like Foley, Bob Cole, Joe Bowen, Dave Strader, Ken Daniels, and even Doc Emeric etc. never know when they unplug the mic or leave the planet!!!

His dad gave Michael Wirtz, Bill's brother, a tape of his son doing games and that was Foley's break into the Hawks.

After a decade of listening to Pat and Edzo, all I can say is listening to 'Barbie and Ken' is GUT WRENCHING! I'll second that. To me, a successful announcer has two things going for him: one, the right voice tone; and two, an extensive knowledge of the game's history and its current state. The latter allows the announcer to talk about relevant matters during lulls in the action; or to analogize to some event that just occurred in the game being broadcast. I remember the first time I heard Vin Scully (the voice of the LA Dodgers for those of you who aren't into baseball). I knew his reputation, but when I heard his voice tone and what he had to discuss and how he described the game's events, I knew why he was an announcing superstar.
