Canada sure is missing Dach..... no kidding. out of 21 skaters on their roster, 19 are first rounders. that's just crazy. feel bad for germany. only 14 skaters tonight due to covid and they still manage a "too many men" penalty.

american goalie could have played the entire game sitting behind his net and his team would have still won by a goal. americans score 11 goals (on 73 shots) and allow 10 shots vs austria. impressive win.

well, if canada gets punted from this tournament, i'll have no problem cheering for the czechs. what a gutsy effort against the russians tonight.
slovakia played a whale of a game against canada as well today, holding us to just 22 shots.

Watching the Swiss getting hammered...this really is a two tiered tournament. Some of these games aren’t even worth watching. But watching Byfield picking up a half dozen points makes me so jealous of L.A.’s prospects, nine in the tourney. That’s a rebuild.

what a goal. congrats to the germans qualifying for the quarterfinals after being decimated by positive covid tests and a 16-2 whipping against canada. must be a lot of character on that team.

The Yanks look like they got their game together but the juggernaut from the Great White North looks like as unbeatable as a Jr's team can look. Nineteen 1st rounders and it woulda been 20 with Dach!

Slovakia dug deep to get that game within one and the Yanks also dug deep to stretch it back out a bit.........great game to prepare for the semi's.

Wow, Askarov looking like a 6th round pick with a limp. Again! He’s been pretty bad in the WJC two years in a row.
I will say this. We Hawks fans have thrown around trade ideas with the Avs and a few other teams. I will say the Avs have 2 huge game changers in Newhook and Byram. Actually, team Canada’s defense as a whole are absolutely dominant. Byram is the best in this tourney. Drysdale, Guhle, Schnieder, Harley, Baron, Spence have all been fantastic.
I’d be looking to get Byram. He’s the real deal. The game looks soooo easy for him. I’d go hard after him if I was in control of the Hawks!!!

russkies got screwed on that offside call when they scored their PP goal.
if the goal was allowed as it should have been, the russians get another PP on the failed challenge and could have made it a 2 goal game. their PP was looking awesome up to that point. it might've made a difference but i gotta'say canada played such a strong game i'm not sure it would have mattered. anyways...good to see levi paying solid in canada's net. goaltending was the big question for canada going into the tourney. so far so good.
edit: never liked these offsides on goals where the offside occurred like a minute before the goal. they should make it so if the offside happens say 30 seconds or more before a goal is scored, then the goal is allowed. jmo.

I personally think offsides should stay in the linesman’s whistle. I fully understand the need to try and get it right. For the most part theyve done a fantastic job. I for one think the refs have done a great job. I don’t mind replay on a few things. I’d also like to see magnets around the edde of the puck. Put a sensor in the posts that when the puck goes through them the goal light automatically goes off. So if the goalies glove is in the net with the puck, it’s no longer an issue. I doubt it’d be that expensive, and it’s just time to get into the 21st century!!!

usa holds on and beats finland to advance to the final against canada tomorrow.
no offense to the europeans here but a usa/canada final is always fun in hockey be it men or women playing, no matter what the level. It's just a regional thing.
should be a ring-a-ding-dong dandy.

It's just a regional thing. should be a ring-a-ding-dong dandy. Team Canada has allowed 3 goals I believe. So, the US has a tough task here. Russia was a decent team and got dismantled quickly and precisely. This may be one of the best teams to ever be assembled by team Canada. On the US side. I’ll say that Zegras is gonna be a good player. I still believe he’s the best from the 2019 class of US 1st rounders. I thought Caufield would have brought a bit more. Always a fun game though. As always I wish our US counterparts the best of luck....... just not today!!!

I liked the Yanks more and more as the tourney has gone on but they find themselves facing a team with 1st rounders on their bottom two lines and their bottom pair.......my GOD! The US special team play might keep em in the game but Canada's overwhelming 5 on 5 play will wear out the Yanks by the 3rd. I'm pleased with silver and a competitive game would be big for the US program but that could be a tall order.
5-2 Canada with an empty netter.

americans/canadians have met 4 times for the gold and the americans have won the last 3 straight after losing the first match up. not sure it matters or not but it might be playing in the minds of some players/coaches on either team. or maybe not.
canada has never trailed this tournament. in fact they've played with a lead for over 339 minutes out of 360. if the americans can grab a lead on canada who knows what can happen.
an interesting sideline is the cozens/zegras race for the scoring lead. both centers have 16 points in 6 games. cozens definitely benefitted playing against the depleted german team (3g, 3a on 16 goals scored).
going to be a fun one. as mentioned above, 5-2 sounds about right, i'm just not sure who wins. : )
edit: may as well just plunk this here.
that's pretty fckn amazing.

best outta' 3?
congrats to team USA. nothing flukey about that win. hard work and a lot of hustle, well earned. there were swings in the game either way, but when the americans had it going their way, they got more done than when the canadians had it going.
i honestly don't understand why they scrap the handshakes at the end.

Well, congratulations to the US squad. They had a solid 22 minutes that they absolutely dominated and it was good enough for the win. I remember saying last year that I thought Zegras was the best Yank out of the bunch. I’d seriously take him over Hughes. Zegras is really developing into a game changer. He reminds me a lot of Barzal.
Canada literally sat back and let themselves get dominated for most of the 1st and about 6 mins in the 2nd. If they played like they did for the rest of the game, outcome is probably different. As a coach myself, I like to see what can be done. Knight left sooooo many rebounds there and not much Canadian fight in front of that net. I seriously couldn’t believe the opportunity left sitting there, and for him to get a shutout is wild. I thought he was very lucky that half a dozen of those rebounds don’t go in. Good defensive effort by the US, they really saved Knights back bacon there!!!

nice game by the 'murican crew. Zegras is really looking like some teams that passed on him made a mistake.
that's four in a row for the American boys in gold medal matchups with Canada at Juniors!
