So, one of the Hawks' draft picks who is supposed to lead them to NHL glory got cut from the US WJC team? That's pretty bad news for Chicago. The future savior of the team can't even make his WJC team? Maybe it will take more than a decade for the Hawks to be somewhat competitive. The teams were already picked. CHL scoring champion Wyatt Johnston had 124 points this year. He wasn’t taken because the team was picked in December. They never added him this summer due to the team already being picked. So the same went for the US squad. Yet Nazar almost made the US team anyways. He’ll be there at Xmas when his normal time to make it is up. So we have to look at this tourney and it’s team as last Xmas. Nazar will be there as an 18 year old. And that’s unheard of. Same as Korchinski. If these kids don’t make it this Xmas, they usually don’t. It’s a tourney of 19 year olds. Nazar and Korchinski just turned 18. So let’s not come down on them yet!!!

I gotta say. Latvia 🇱🇻 has really surprised me. Like really surprised me. Played Canada hard, and almost scratched out a W vs Slovakia 🇸🇰. latvia was outshot 35-14 but the czech goalie let in 4. anyways...good for latvia. i was a bit surprised to see that 38 latvians had been drafted in the nhl since the first one (who was also soviet at the time) was drafted in 1975. there were 3 more latvians that played in the nhl who were undrafted. out of the 41 total. i only recognize about 9 names. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Latvians_in_the_NHL#:~:text=Apart%20from%20the%20players%20listed%20below%2C%20there%20have,

It's pretty easy for me these days to come down on anyone associated with the Hawks' future, so your explanation helped ease the pain. Maybe someday, the Hawks will be a relevant team again. Until then, I won't expect much.

Jacksalmon and friendsYes, I am definitely an old curmedgeon when it comes to assessing the Hawks' chances of even having a winning season this decade.

managed to find u.s./sweden. man, i'd be surprised if there were a thousand in attendance. it's a bit disappointing. I don’t know what has happened here. The attendance has been horrific across the board. I don’t believe it was overly expensive. I looked into it. I think it was for every Canada game, including medal rounds. It was $650 for 4 tickets. I think it worked out to $30 a ticket. So it wasn’t that bad. I think it’s utterly embarrassing to see that few people in the stands for hockey in Canada!!!

Zawaski on his podcast said 70 bucks a chair, not sure where he got his number but that's what he said. I remember reading somewhere a month or so ago that the attendance might be affected by the oiler's playoff run....draining the coffers of the local fan base but not sure i buy that. But you're right...it's a bit embarrassing.

I'm sure the Oilers not having many prospects doesn't help either.

Surely if it happens - a Canada/USA finals will pack the house.
MacTavish continues to look great.

Unfortunately, he looks great on his flight back home. So much for the slovak optimism. On the other hand, from a couple of slovak games I saw, Dvorsky looked competitive and one of the best slovaks within the tournament at the age of 17. Cannot compare with Bedard, did not see him play.

saw this yesterday. nice to see james' faceoff numbers. definitely something the hawks need. I'm surprised this is the only mention of Kaiser's two goals, in his last two seasons he's only had two goals and he had two in the first period the other day. He's really impressing me with his skating, hitting, and IQ.

Including the U18, in 17gms for team Canada Bedard has 20 goals.
He looks good in red, white, and black, I can picture him as a Blackhawk.

Some don’t like the cage. As an under 18 kid, you have to wear a face mask. IIHF rules!!!

I wonder if Edmonton will set the record for the shittiest attendance of all time? Or set the record for worst attendance percentage per total seats. Example. Windsors WFCU Center seats 6500. If Edmonton gets that, the Rogers center will be roughly 1/3 full. Not good attendance at all. But in Windsor that’d be awesome. So if Edmonton gets 3000 for a game, that’s only about 14% full. So I wonder what the worst percentage full an arena was at the WJC?
Last thing I’ll say on that front is this. Shouldn’t Jr hockey he played in Jr hockey cities? Windsor or London would be amazing. Rimouski or Halifax. Plymouth (Michigan) has the USTDP arena there. I’ve been there a dozen times. They could hold some games, only 45 mins from Windsor. There’s places around the Chicagoland area that could host it. Hockey is pretty big there now amongst kids playing. Just put it where it belongs. In hockey grass roots places. Not in buildings that have 20,000 seats. That’s not Jr hockey!!!

I think the worst thing is that the people that support Jr Hockey never get a chance to enjoy it on the grandest scale!!!

In 2012 Edmonton and Calgary shared the last normal WJHC held in the province, played in NHL rinks and a huge attendance winner with nearly a half million people at the games. What’s different this time? It’s got little to do with playing at Rogers, which is only using the lower bowl anyways. What you have is an afterthought of a tournament played in what little summer we have in Canada, not in the middle of winter in what’s become the annual tradition. You have altered rosters from the aborted attempt from last Boxing Day, no Russian team, a huge draw and major adversary for the the top teams. And due to the usual attempt to satisfy eastern sensibilities games start locally at 4 PM so Torontonians can sit down and watch the game at a comfortable 6 PM. Ticket prices are maybe $40 for a game with lower ranked teams but any game with Canada in it is closer to $150 as Hockey Canada tries to milk the product. Now throw in all the scandals in the media from that same org and is it any wonder no one cares much about this tournament. I’m not sure any venue could have pulled this one off.

If it was the kids on this years team. I would 💯 support them being ousted. But since it’s years past, I don’t like the thought of hurting this years group. That wouldn’t be fair. Also. It’s still under investigation and a lot new evidence is coming out. The players have videos of her consent. Not saying they’re absolved. But it doesn’t look as bad now. But I still think they should avoid that shit at all costs. Especially for current and future members!!!
